Well, If that is how you are defining bard, most singer/songwriters are bards. The inspiration for songs is almost always life.

Here's an actual quote from Shakespeare. Its Romeo & Juliet.

"Rebellious subjects, enemies to peace, throw your mistempered weapons to the ground! And hear the sentence of your moved prince."

Just a little trivia. smile

My love is as boundless as the sea
My love is as deep, the more I give to thee
The more I have, for both are infinite.

Romeo and Juliet

Never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo

in reply to the original question

NO, Prince is not a bard. Not even close. Sure, he writes some good lyrics but you cannot compare.

"She doth teach the torches to burn bright!
She seems to hang upon the cheek of night,
like a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear
Beauty too rich for use,
For earth, too dear!"

(Although I don't think Billy used an exclamation mark! razz )
