[Edited 9/19/04 17:23pm] OK. Asians come in many shapes and varieties, but it ins't outlandish for someone to say, he has pretty curly hair for an Asian or his legs are hairy for an asian--that is becuase despite our many varieties the majority of us fit a certain look. Likewise, when you say he was a "black" male, we're gong to tend to think someone with chocolate skin, curly hair (whether short or long) and so forth--we're not going to normally think "light caramel skin, long relaxed straight hair, and pumps to boot"---If that makes me ignorant or racist, you're delusional.

Would you consider them kind of tan for an Irish person? I would. Is that narrow? Now describe what an asian person looks like. Please, humor me and do it. b/c your entire post is as shitty as your photoshop skills. Prince's skin HAS changed in appearance from differnt points in his career--attribute it to what you like, but it HAS.
GOD DAMN, pay attention. I am paying attention, to your ignorance. But even if we ignore your "pretty light for a Black guy" dumb as shit statement & go back to his seemingly varying skin color, it's really quite simple: sometimes he's in an area where there's not a lot of sun or he stays indoors a lot or WHATEVER, so he's gonna look more pale. Other times he's gonna get more sun & look darker (happens to many, many people around the globe, especially when you can afford to vacation whenever you like & grab a tan @ your whim). And SOMETIMES it's just a photography thing, whether a pic is developed lighter or darker. So why start a thread on it like it's a goddamn news flash?? This is such elementary shit man - YOU pay attention & quit licking your own taint, fuckin' newbie

When someone says 'black male" to me, I would say "what does he look like." Why? Because I recognize black people come lots of ways. In fact, if you go by the men in my family, chocolate with curly hair may be the last thing I think. Maybe you should change your statement to say that when you hear black male, you think of a certain look. It's clear that you have a preconceived notion about how black people look. And I am not trying to insult you are anything, you said yourself (see the above highlighted portion) what you think when you hear "black." By the way who is "we" in the above post? Do you mean people that aren't black when you say we? Or do you mean people who spend absolutely no time looking at black people. Because the only way you could fail to notice the various shades, is by not looking. And about Prince's color "changes" - Prince sometimes wears lighter or darker makeup, and at other times he probably has had a lot of sun and sometimes he probably hasn't. Black people tan, just like white people do, only much more easily. I'm sure that sometimes he's going for a pale high drama look, and at others a more robust darker look. Black is versatile, or didn't you know that? S [Edited 9/19/04 20:21pm] Filthy cute and baby U know it

i think this thread was innocent in nature, and has turned into something layered in insecurities. the reality is prince is alot lighter than he was in high school, but it does'nt really matter cuz it is his mind that is most beautiful. i wish someone would just post a picture from 30 years ago and from now. but in the end this is all silly gossip. if anything prince is playing with how we perceive him. man or woman. black or white. gay or strait. i think he is just amused by our facination. have a wonderful day!!!

That was my thought - I didn't mean to start a riotous discussion. I dont care if he was pale or dark - makes no difference to me. He' still fine and if has absolutely no impact on his music. Also all those who responded to this thread have made their own ASSumptions about my race - they have no idea if I'm black or white, etc. And for those who think it's a silly thread, why are you bothering to waste your time reading or resoponding to it.

There's a ton of ways people's skin tones can vary in photographs. Not to mention, Prince used to CAKE on makeup in the early 90s.
Photographers will often overexpose or "blast out" a photograph of someone to hide their blemishes. When they do this, fewer details show up in the lighter areas of the photograph. The same thing is often done on digital images. I saw him up close at a rehersal in 2002 and he looked fine.
