Tevin Campbell

What did Prince see in Tevin? Tevin was 12/13?, when he appeared in UTCM? Then he did all of those songs on Tevin's album including, shhhh.
Where is Tevin now?

Any thoughts or sightings?

Tevin was a great singer.

It has that odd paralell of When Mozart met Bhetoven when he was 14. Mozart told the royal court that they need to keep an eye out for Behetoven--he's going places.

But Tevin never went places after that.

I think Prince saw in supporiting young kids so that they could grow up and service the art community.

Likewise, Michael Jackson sees the value in supporting kids so that the could grow up and service him.

No not a all. Prince has certainly been as prolific and as genius as Mozart. Perhaps even more so if one truly goes over the entire body of his work. 300 years ago everything Mozart did was not a hit with the masses either. He is said to have been a very weird individual to boot. Hell is a Picasso any less great than a Monet or a Michelangelo?

What's funny is that the majority of people who would even challenge the idea that Prince or any contemp. was as great or better than a classical artist, music or otherwise. normally doesn't know that much about either of the two being compared in the first. But will ultimately try to justify his challenge with a bunch of info they get from the internet.

And Prince is better than Jimmi and Santana in so many ways. He may not have mastered their signature technique ( or has he?) but he has cultimated all of their guitar knowledge (and many others) in to a better one. Few, if any have been able to better Prince himself

Tevin was doing OK until he had that run off with that officer... where he allegedly propositioned an officer (sexually) during a traffic stop.

There's no evidence that Prince was an accomplished musician on at least two instruments of his day, writing and performing musical compositions of any complexity such as sonatas, concerti and a symphony, and undertaking extensive tours, all by the age of 10. Instead, Prince was trying to bash out the theme for 'Batman' on a piano.

Mozart was far further advanced in his musicianship than Prince for his age, and it's widely recognised that Mozart developed and maintained artistic quality through his prolific compositional output throughout his life.

Last I read about him was in the Sister to Sister Magazine. He was touring in Africa and he was doing is old hits. He and his lover Rashaan Patterson were together and doing fine he was just opening up about his homosexuality. He wanted to do a new album but wasn't sure about it yet.. Like I said this was about 3 years ago

Rashanna Patterson? Wow!
Well, the last I heard was that Tevin was try-sexual (meaning he'd try anything!). That's for real. I read it in some interview.

Well, and, now he has a lover. How cute!

The work Tevin and prince did together was top notch! Alot better then the sloppy second rate samey shit he did with Sheila E or Jill jones.....just that the period they worked together (1989-1993) was a period that most diehards hate.....

"Round and round" is still a perfect pop song but thanx to it's production has dated badly.....not that i care of course!

"Halls of desire".....a cute uptempo no. which is prince's version of "Strawberry letter 23" off tevins first album! Song makes little sense

"Uncle sam".....political but so poppy and light that it's a fun song.....of course it's very well sung as Tevin was easily one of the best singers prince has ever written 4.....

Those above r my fav's but their were a few more songs they did together!

I heard that 4 tevins first solo album, Prince wanted to write the whole album 4 him but Quincy Jones said no (Tevin was in huge demand form the best producers at the time.....wise move there by quincy though i woulda loved a whole album of prince tracks 4 tevin!)

Bettr than Jimi??! You just crossed the line. Look at how short Jimi's life was and the impact he had. He didn't live long enuff to make a bad record.

That's not the point.

Jimi would not be feted the way he is today had he lived long enough to make some lameass record. For Jimi, dying was a brilliant career move and a financial Godsend for the Jimi Hendrix Estate who have carte blanche to re-release his stuff in a myriad of forms ad infinitum.

Funny to observe that it pays for artists to die early or at least at the cusp of their creativity in order for them to be pigeonholed as geniuses in posterity.

Have to pop in here and say I totally DISAGREE. They all have COMPLETELY different styles. No less genius, just different. You totally can't compare a Cubist, an Impressionist, and a Renissance artist. It's like comparing apples to feathers. Come on now.
