My point exactly. A good inspired album that he could take his time to put together. Hence, the original comment of P taking a year or two to do so. He does not have to release Witness for the Prosecution, but other songs in the Vault that we have not heard on bootleg would be nice

Different strokes for different folks, I reckon. shrug Compared to the output of the latter '90s, I've definitely heard more inspiration in his albums since The Rainbow Children.

I wonder why I don't see disgruntled fans of Stevie Wonder or The Rolling Stones. Neither of them have made albums comparable to Innervisions or Exile On Main Street (respectively). However, their fanbases seem to hold strong without making their heroes accountable for making new albums in the same vein as their prior masterpieces.

shrug

Because we are P fans and we want more from our favorite artist than the fans of Stevie Wonder and The Rolling Stones want from them

I think Prince should get away from say the PRINCE sound. I think as Creatively Brilliant a Musician he is he SHOULD do DIFFERENT Music to CHALLENGE that CREATIVITY. It's Called REACHING and he will DISCOVER NEW THINGS and NEW POSSIBILITIES and ALWAYS Stay FRESH and YOUNG. He Does do This but he has NEVER Created Music OUTSIDE of The PRINCE sound. How about GARTH BROOKS who did ROCK. Well, Jazz will be Different is True but I tell you Prince should do Like Goth and Metal ,Rock and Punk. NEW Things. ALTERNATIVE. He Needs New Friends like some Wild stuff like Eno and Laurie Anderson and BJORK. Wild stuff ya Know can Create Masterpieces with Collaberations. Look at all the People he NEVER WORKED with that he was Suppose to MORISSEY,ROBERT SMITH,TRENT. I Don't know why he hasn't done it. I SWEAR to You The Possibilities are Endless. If he just surrounds himself with Different People and Their Ideas well it's gonna be AMAZING.

What Prince needs is a new mindset. As long as he hangs around people like Larry G., Maceo, and other old fogies, he's not gonna have a fresh outlook on things. Plus he may need some anger inside, or at least some kind of raw emotion that he transforms into more agressive music. He's basically just very dry inside. And of course he needs to lose the JW bullshit cuz that just puts all kinds of shackles on him.

Let's face it, no matter how talented, creative or innovative a songwriter may be, after 25 years one of 3 things happen:

1. you start repeating yourself

2. you start sounding like someone(s) else or,

3. you sound different but its weird or just plain corny

P has released over 25 albums in the last 25 years and that does not include songs he wrote for others and b-sides of singles. As much as we may have loved this back in the day, i'm starting to think that P may have burned himself out. Maybe he should take a year or 2 and concentrate soley on his record label(signing new and GOOD acts) or making a fantastic CD. Jill Jones CD is the best CD to come out of Paisley Park(next to P's of course) because it was at least 4-5 years in the making. I'm not saying P should take that long but imagine what a album would sound like if he took his time(let's say 2 years) and put everything he had into it. It might be one of the best of his career if not ever. What do U guys think?

i agree. he should take some time out. focus on his record label. get some new people around u...get some wendy's and lisa's (yea i said it!) matter o fact get the wendy and lisa...shot something..cuz sooner or later he is gonna start gettin all repetitive..and sooner or later we're gonna b able to say HEY! that sounds like this!
Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...
...And i'm gonna be groovy in it!

Naw....he just needs to drop the JW stuff, drop some acid and he'll put out a great lp. biggrin (joking)

He's at a different stage in his career. Enjoy him for where he is at today. Many artists don't get the breaks Prince has acheived. He's made a major comeback. All older artist lose their creativity with time. Will James Brown write a modern day Big Payback? Is Chuck Berry gonna drop a smash lp? See where I'm coming from. He's given us some great music. All you have to do is put it in your player.

Acid may be a good idea, but I'd like to see him get into drinking Absinthe. That could spark all kinds of cool shit.

I think Prince has become the post-modern james brown, he can't do anything new or outdo himself because he's already done so much that was so good. I think most great artists reach that level eventually (though most of their careers still aren't over, I think even James Brown's got something new in the works). The only artist you could argue never went stale was Duke Ellington IMO

The Prince "story" is still unfolding, with many many more chapters yet unwritten, unread.
Do not jump the gun and make conclusions. He himself doesn't know what the talents G-d gave him (if you believe in G-d) will reveal. Prince has said in interviews, that music plays inside his head all day, and he either develops it, or he doesn't. None of our futures are known. Do we conclude that you are finished in your field, just because you've done it for so long?..As far as the Jehovah's Witness influence, are you saying that you only want Prince to write songs about sex? On the Couch is a very good song. He is and has always been spiritual. That's not a bad thing. Do you only need Prince to curse as in Days of Wild?...
Grow with him. Learn from him. I echo the sentiments expressed before..The Stones created Exile on Main Street...and it took a decade to do "Some Girls"..another classic for them. Just enjoy. In this life, things are relative. There are people in Chechnya who lost their children to an act of terrorism. You're griping about music for pete's sake.

I agree, I think hanging with all those old fuckers makes him as stale as fuck.

Not so much live, he's still got it there, but on record, yep

He needs people who will make him look forward as opposed to back

Someone with the kind of influence on him that Wendy and Lisa did

But I believe he still has it in him to spring some new stuff that will be like the Prince of old

Coulnt agree more. Please Please Please no more fake jazz. He has garnered some long overdue respect for his guitar skills from everyone this year. Dont lose that momentum. Parde comes to mind when I think of his ever changing sounds. I would love a new sound with heavy guitar and drums mixed in with alittle synth and no horns. A New Sound. I dont know what that sound is, but im not the musical genius

Of course he hasn't lost his creativeness! He's still making music, isn't he? And plenty of it, I might add...

Whether YOU LIKE the music, now that's a whole other issue. We all know by now that Prince makes the music he wants to make, no more and no less. And there are very few artists who are in such a position that they're able to do that, really.

A fresh new 18-21 year old hottie with a spectacular ass would do wonders for his creativity. No more 50 year old JW men influences.
