Which CD's Should I Add To My Collection?

Currently, the Prince CD's I own (off the top of my head) are:

Prince
Dirty Mind
1999
Purple Rain
Around The World In A Day
Parade
Sign O' The Times
LoveSexy

And Musicology and The Chocolate Invasion

How good are Diamonds And Pearls, prince, Emancipation, and The Slaughterhouse? I was thinking about getting these. And, is Xpectation instrumental? idk. What albums do you recommend getting?

I already bought For You and Graffiti Bridge, but I gave them to my mom (she likes Prince, too) because I didn't like them. And my pops has The Hits/The B-Sides.

Appreciate the help.

I know of the singles from Diamonds And Pearls and I thought they were all good, but I heard from (the majority) of the org that the rest of the songs on the album were kind of shabby. But because this album was the biggest thing Prince did in the '90's, I was thinking about getting it. I did hear good things, supposedly, about the prince album though. Whenever someone, like me, would post something similar to my topic, a lot of orgers would say to buy the prince album eventually. I like the songs Sexy MF, Love 2 The 9's, The Morning Papers, 7, and And God Created Woman, but I don't really like the other songs. But, because a lot of orgers recommended the prince album, I'm willing to give it another chance. And, I've heard a lot of good things about The Rainbow Children, so I think I'll be getting this. But I didn't really want to get The Vault or Newpower Soul in the first place, because I've heard nothing but bad reviews about them. I guess I should've mentioned that.

By this topic, I meant to ask what albums I should get within the immediate future. Albums like The Gold Experience and The Black Album, along with other bootlegs, are probably good albums, but, as you know, are very hard to track down.

I also figured, that, despite a lot of orgers not liking Emancipation, there was bound to be something worth listening to on three discs, which is why I'm thinking about getting this one.

And, could someone please fill me in about The Slaughterhouse? If it's anything as good as The Chocolate Invasion, I'm there.

So, Controversy I should get? Why? What did you like about the album? I haven't heard too much about this, and the only tracks I'm familiar with are the title track and Do Me, Baby, which I really like.

I'm impressed with your ability to get rid of albums you don't like. Many people (myself included), have a really hard time parting with this stuff.

But, anyways, I personally think you need to look on ebay or something for the Black Album, first and foremost. If you plan on buying more music I would also recommend buying post 1992, because it's most likely to be out of print really soon.

If I were you, the next albums I would get (in order), would be:

Crystal Ball
Black Album
Gold Experience
Come
The Rainbow Children
Controversy

I listed the first three where they were because they will only get more difficult to find with time.

Also, if you're open-minded and enjoy experimental instrumental jazz-funk fusion, NEWS and Xpectation have always been very enjoyable albums for me.

Lastly, people are often split on the quality of albums, such as symbol, Come, Black Album, Chaos and Disorder, The Vault, RaveUn2, RaveIn2, Emancipation, but negative opinion often comes because it doesn't sound enough like old prince, and positive opinion often comes because people think "prince is prince". My point is, you have to listen to it all and judge for yourself. I find something positive about every album I have heard of his, though my least favourite would have to be Graffiti Bridge and For You. Closely following those is NPS, not because the music is terrible, it's just not very interesting.

I never play For You, except maybe once a year for Crazy You, I seldom play Grafitti Bridge, except for a few tracks like Question of U and Joy in Repetition, and NPS gets occasional play, usually as one of five albums chosen for background music that I don't really pay attention to.

First of all, you need to get "Controversy". Then you need to get "Minneapolis Genius: 94 East". When you start on the 1990s, the first thing you need to get is "The Gold Experience", then "Come", the "Symbol" album, and "Diamonds and Pearls".

Snap

1. Controversy
2. prince
3. The Gold Experience
4. Come

...then I'd probably go back to For You (give it more time to grow on you, one song at a time) then go forward, year by year, filling in what's been missed.

Gold, 0+>, controversy, emancipation
Wait on NEWS, Expectation, and The Rainbow Children. You need to be a dedicated freak(like the rest of us) to soak those up

Don't waste your money on The Slaughterhouse just yet. (It's the same vibe as Choccie Invasion if you liked that).

You HAVE to get a copy of The Gold Experience. It is currently deleted, so you'll have to buy a used copy. Also, you should invest in Crystal Ball.

You'd be far better off buying Xpectation as a download, it has some sweet instrumentals with the formidable talent of violinist Vanessa Mae on there. I do like the track The Slaughterhouse. Any song that has 'fillet minion' in the lyrics has to be good, but as an album it shouldn't be top of your list.

I found Gold on Gem.com for $7.50

I just bought this for $9.99 for all 3 disc. I figure I couldn't go wrong because it is 3 disc. I hope it is not as bad as some say.

that is my opinion as well... there are gems on all the cd's!

it is often the case that you think you don't really like an album on the first couple spins but give it a chance! Some disks that i was initially dissappointed with are now some of my favorites

Don't forget The Slaughterhouse album.... and try to avoid Emancipation... even though you'll be able to find it for much less than $10. I bet you understand why it is THAT cheap... wink

Exactly the OPPOSITE. Slaughterhouse has to be avoited, its much worse than Chocolate Invasion. But Emancipation is good, it has plenty of great tracks.

But next you should get CONTROVERSY, its one of the best.
