I think so...

Just look at all of the gay ORGERS...they are abundant.

It's a combination of things...alot of gay people are into the club scene, Prince's music
certainly makes it's rounds at the clubs. Also, Prince's cross gender attire appeals to
some gay people.
Also, Prince has never really denied being bi-sexual, so that plays a role too.

His GAY ICON status isn't anywhere near some peoples, but it's there...
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I have gay friends who aren't the least bit attracted to Prince. What's so strange is that they love him anyway.

It's wierd, they and straight females absolutely do NOT understand why people would find him gay.

I'll admit he's a VERY handsome man...but I don't feel any sexuality brewin' when I
watch him. I actually find his sexual teasing funny, it makes me laugh.
For me, it's 95% about the music...the other 5% encompasses alot, the photos, the dancing,
the suits...his whole persona.

priceless

If Prince were a gay icon he'd be a gay icon forever, and so the answer is NO, not as we know him.

I think people just can't get over the whole "If you're a gay icon, you must be gay" think.

Marky Mark is a gay icon--and he ain't gay.
Barbara Striesan is a gay icon--and she ain't gay.

Likewise, Prince is definately a gay icon. And alhtough he is straight, we all know that he can be so very very gay.

I personally don't think Prince qualifies as a gay icon and my opinion has nothing to do with the fact that he's not gay I just don't think his music is a part of gay culture. When I think of gay musical icons I think of George Michael, Freddy Mercury, Barbara Streisand, Cher etc (admittedly I think all of them suck except Freddy) .

Granted all those are either women or gay men but obviously there are plenty of gay men and straight women artists who aren't gay musical icons and vice versa (although I can't think of any straight male musicians who are gay icons). Little Richard was gay and isn't a gay icon, Michael Jackson is...actually who the hell knows what he is, but he isn't a gay icon whether or not he himself is gay.

Michael Jackson is a nonce, he shouldn't be anyone's icon.

Little Richard called me last night beggin' to lick my bone.....a-WHOOOOO!!!!

But seriously folxx, my faggot boyfriend thinks all Prince songs sound like porno music. Well, that is until I put in the ONA piano album last week, he really dug that.

He's definitely not a gay icon to the gay community in GENERAL, but all the coolest fags I know (granted, we're all on here) sho' nuff get lots of inspiration and attitude from his work.

Yeah, I didn't realize it until recently either. Actually it's ambiguous whether he's gay or bisexual
