well ill start off by admiting i wasn't even born when prple rain came out, but my first prince album was batman and that is my favorite one. my homeboy thinks graffiti bridge is his best and that was the first one he got. i think graffiti bridge is o.k. at best.


my point is i think princes music is so amazing that the first album you hear stays with you and every other album, while you appreciate it, doesn't quite live up to it . and that could be why people hate on all his recent stuff since purple rain.

i could be wrong but thats what ive concluded through observation.

1999 is my 1st and favorite -- I think part of it has to do with hearing these songs in the right space and time, as they were intended to be heard, along with all the other things going on in world culture at the time of the album's release; but besides all that, 1999 is very creative and very funky -- even after all these years.

well..I didnt become a Prince fan till DIAMONDS and PEARLS..that was my first Prince album and that DEFNITELY IS NOT my fav by him..not even in the top 15.....
but that album DID make an impression on me when I first heard it....the variety of music amazed me...that was.....till I got my 2nd Prince album, "1999"

purple rain was my favorite for years, but i listened to it so much - and i mean, more than any other album i've ever listened to repeatedly - that i've completely burned myself out on it. i think these days, my favorite prince album is COME, mainly because when i listen to it i always hear something new, and it took me so long to warm up to, and when i finally did warm up to it, it was like falling completely in love with that first listen of purple rain all those years ago.

My first Prince album was "Dirty Mind". My favorite Prince album is "1999". The first time I ever heard Prince was "I Wanna Be Your Lover". I love the song but I like a lot of others better.

The reason a lot of people don't like Prince's music after "Purple Rain" is because of the drastic change in style he did after that album. Every album he did before it was different but it still had that "Minneapolis Sound".

Maybe the concept of someone's first being their favorite holds some merit for some people. Not for me, the first album by Prince I listened to was For You, but it's not my favorite.

1999 was my first cd (cassette actually) but Dirty Mind is my all time favorite, 1999 is next in line though that is my 2nd favorite.

My first was Purple Rain in '84 - it stayed my favourite through my subsequent purchases of (in order):

-1999
-Controversy
-Around the World in a Day
-For You

Then I bought Parade, and it was my favourite (I then picked up Dirty Mind and Prince, but Parade kept the top spot).

Then I bought Sign O' the Times, and IT was my favourite.

Then I bought Lovesexy, and IT was my favourite...

...and has been ever since!

The first album that I purchased with my own money was 1999 and yes, it is my favorite. I had been listening to Prince since the 'Prince' album.

1999 was my first and even though I love it, Lovesexy is my favorite.

Purple Rain was my first, but Controversy is my favourite.

My first Prince album was his self-titled 1979 release -- on vinyl. While I still love that album, it's not my favorite by him. I can't name my true favorite -- it seems to change daily -- but Prince isn't it.

The first album I had was 1999 but it was just taped from a copy I found in a library and I didn't really like it that much at the time apart from a few songs.

The next album I heard was Parade which my brother lent me on a long trip to listen to on my walkman. I thought it was cool.

The first actual album I bought myself was Lovesexy, which I loved.

But my favourite has to be Purple Rain, stereotypical though that is. It's just a fantastic album through and through.

So, no.

My most treasured is The Black Album, because it was so hard for me to get.
The most listenable without skipping back and forth through tracks is Lovesexy.

Oh yeah, neither was my first, second, third, etc.

My first was Purple Rain and then Symbol album, but I don't really listen to those anymore. The only album that I really liked and still listen to is 'Parade'. The least played album in my collection is Lovesexy mainly due to that 1-track sheeeite!

I think you may have a valid point. Chaos And Disorder was my first Prince album. It's hard for me to say that it's my favourite but I definitely have a lot of love for C & D. And I certainly don't see why so many people bash it so much.

Do you think anybody's first album was New Power Soul? I wonder if that album is somebody's favourite?

Nuh uh, My first was The Hits / B-Sides. My fav is errm....well there's more than one, but that one ain't it.
