I have to propose - Perhaps Prince's funkiest tune?

Le Grind.

Have not listened to this in years and my jaw is dropping to the floor.

All praise and appreciation for the man we call Prince.

Le Grind is a killer (check my username!)

Rebirth is great, but I bet if it was released in 1987, it would not be lauded as the out-standing classic it is now.

1999-----the track is totally original sounding. It's "him" no James Brown imitations. This is true Prince!

For a long time, I thought that Days of Wild was his funkiest.....but, recently I purchased Chocolate Invasion.....Sex Me Sex Me Not is by far his fonky best!!! That is/was P at his very creative best. If you havent heard it, find it, and listen!!!!! TOO FONKY!!

Let's Work does keep me making that stinky funky face the most, but whenever I listen to Lady Cab Driver I always get that "HOW CAN MUSIC BE THIS GODDAMN GOOD?!?" feeling.

when I read this topic I immediatly said to myself "lets work" then procceded to scroll down thru the responses. that confirms to me that "lets work" is the funky'est song Prince has."erotic city" is great also but a different type of funk.

1970's- Sexy Dancer
1980's- Head/1999
1990's- Sexy M.F/Prettyman
2000+- work in progress (at the mo' probably 1+1+1=3)

But all of this is only a tiny tip on an iceberg of funk.

I'd have to give props to 777-9311 as one of his funkiest cuts. Le Grinde, Cindy C., Dead On It, Superfunky... pretty much the whole Black album, some Camile tracks, some Crystal Ball tracks... too many to handpick / name all the funk!

Yes, RHIAFP is funky as all sh*t also. While I like Lets Work, a lot, it is just a bit to synthy and dated to top my list. The neat thing about Le Grind is it has soo many funky components. Often a funky tune has a great baseline or rift that dominates, but repeats the entire song. Le Grind is like a rollercoaster where the funk changes several times. That growly rift is there for most but the tempo changes as do the elements that make you shake your thang.

I did forget about Lady Can Driver though...that song is just sick. Yeah...and erotic city.

I'll pick some conventional tunes such as D.M.S.R and Irresistable Bitch. and I'll still take the House remix of Gett Off over the album version. Let me add Girls & Boys, 2 nigs united 4 West Compton for the sake of argument.
