This may be an unthinkable question but can anyone think of a version of Purple Rain live which left you disappointed?

This may be a boot you have listened to, or a performance you may have seen.

Mine would be the version off the Xeno set 02, Prince spends the last part of the song talking, there was no guitar solo! For me Purple Rain must have a raging guitar solo at the end.

I think every single live version has left me dissapointed. Except 2.

Otherwise he could stop performing it and I wouldn't miss it. Besides, without Wendy opening the song with the proper chords and sound... why? Why bother Prince? Put it to bed. Retire it right next to 1999, please.

The Revolution Live 1985 video performance annoys me a bit when Prince starts to sing one of the verses four measures too early, and then stops himself a half second before making the mistake -- scrunching up his face.

Oh, and there was this weird faster psychedelic version he did during the soundcheck in Oakland back in 2001. That was weird.

Otherwise, no. I can listen to him play guitar on this forever.

It had to happen! The version at the last Philly show the other night (8/24) was very very....routine. Luckily, after Patti Labelle and THe Time + that incredible Controversy jam, it didn't make much difference. As for "PR" it just seemed like he was getting it over ASAP...

Every live version in which he only sings the first lines of the song annoys me ...
that makes nearly every version past 1986!!!!

To be honest ... I can't stand most medleys ... play a song properly or don't play it at all!
