today's the day!!!! it's finally here!!!

after months of waiting, fingernail-biting and all that jazz, the pr dvd is finally out in stores (here in the u.s., anyway). i've created this thread in order to centralize any questions/comments ya'll may have about it, instead of havin a forum full of dvd-related topics that we mods have to weed through.

anyway, after you've seen the dvd or whatever, give your feedback about it here!

Welp, I just got home from the Beast Buy and I'm about $49 lighter in the wallet.

I hadda put in Graffiti Bridge in first to see the "Question of U" video, and I'm glad I did - it's a live video I've never seen! Woo hoo!!!

gOT EM ALL PRE-PAID AT THE MEDIA PLAY ALREADY.... CAN'T WAIT TO GET HOME TNIGHT AND LOOSE MYSELF IN ALITTLE P!!!! YUMMY!!!

Anyone watching the actual movies 1st, or are we all jumping to the 'Special Features'?

Has anyone watched the mTV premiere party yet??? Are the Mark Goodman interviews with Lindsey Buckingham and/or Stevie Nicks on there? Any clips of Lindsey or STevie arriving on the red carpet? I have an old bootleg VHS of the party which has these but I'm hoping the DVD has it too! I have my copy but am at work right now...and i'm dying to know! Thanks.

Wow... "Purple Rain: Backstage Pass" is just an awsome experience. I'll be watching that one again and again...

I just picked up the "Purple Rain" SE DVD, and I opened it and they didn't even include a booklet inside, kinda chinsey, but if the sound and visual is great then I guess I can over look that.

During the MTV Aftershow Party, check out "Little Richard" He looks so subduded and almost normal compared to the last few years, and he was going on about giving PRINCE the special Bible he got for him.
And Pee-Wee Herman showing up in the little mini car, that was priceless.

you know, i never noticed this back in 1984, but looking back and watching these clips from the purple rain premiere, i gotta say one very weird thing: JOHN MELLENCAMP WAS FINE BACK IN THE DAY!!!

The first thing I watched was the Sex Shooter video because I haven't seen it since it first came out.

Goddamn Appolonia was fine!!

Terrible video, but very funny!!

AGREED! I just finished watching it...a lot of things I didn't know...this is so far the best part of the "Bonus" DVD...Wendy and Lisa reveal who the "Purple Rain Lady" is. Also loved laughing at the "Sexshooter"video...I don't ever recall MTV playing Apollonia's phone conversation before the song starts...of course that was like 20 years ago and I was only 9 so I could be wrong!

I went straight for the special features on Purple Rain. The "Purple Rain: Backstage Pass" was of course the best anyone could hope for. Very nice to hear the stories from the people who were actually there.

Wendy and Lisa set alot of things straight. Especially how Wendy came up with the classic intro to the song. Oughtta shut a few people up, but probably wont.

The packaging is really cheesy, no inserts or booklets. I could've done a better job with paper and pencil.

Very nice to have all the videos... nothing new here. When BET or MTV world premiered "Sex Shooter" in '84, they showed the whole thing with the beginning and all. It's worth it alone for Take Me With U.

I had to laugh during the "Frist Avenue" documentary and someone said how people come and stand in front of the club just to take pictures... cause I did that.

The Premiere party was hilarious. Anybody notice who was standing behind Eddie Murphy??? I wonder if that was the night they played basketball???

Haven't watched the movie or the commentary yet, but I will.

Went straight to the videos and they are incredible. The quality was very good.

Watched the movie, was very impressed with the quality and the wide screen format.

Sorry. I couldn't bring myself to buy it.

I'll pick it up when it hits the $5.50 rack at Walmart.

i'm sittin here watchin the movie trailer--i'm goin "that's not in it!" for every scene that didn't make it in the film.

...and lisa's outfit she wore to the mtv premiere party looked like it was partially made from hotel lobby curtains.

Videos don't sound it...though I only watched the non prince. Thouhg in the extras there's plenty of movie shots...which sounded pretty clear.

The sound is a bit off as the movie is louder than the people talking...and at times the music plays over the people talking...anyway...

The backstage pass could have been at least 2 hours..seriously. I was mesmerized. Love the Wendy and Lisa parts.
