Just watched the extras. Man, talk about a flashback. This is the 1st time since 1984 that I saw the premier party and most of those videos (except WDC & Jungle Love). I Would Die 4 U/Baby I'm a Star was the highlight for me...too cool. Wendy & Lisa looked out of it in the premier party...where they drunk or something? Man, those clothes! Just embarrassing...but a snapshot of that time. Prince looked like he was constipated walking into the theater.

Everyone is talking about Sex Shooter. I can't say I was dying to see it or anything...I saw it once back in 84 haven't really thought about in a LONG time...but the funny thing is I remembered it VERY well...Apollonia obviously made a big impression. I particularly remember her lighting Brenda's cigarette and thinking at the time that was so erotic...and I still do! The song and video sucked...but man she was so hot.

The docs were all excellent...really well done.

Didn't buy Cherry Moon or Graffiti Bridge yet...might wait until they reach the bargin bin.

Finally...when the hell is Sign o The Times gonna be out on DVD. THAT's the one I am dying for.

I loved the extras. I don't remember the sex shooter video but damn that was a funny 80'sish video. Also during dr.fnks parts .. is he STILL wearing a stethoscope? now thats funny. Hopefully I'll actually mkae it to the movie. The backstage pass is very similar to VH-1 behind the music. Wher's Jerome these days? He was hilarious. I'm suprised he never really caught on in any other movies? Very good SE I still wish we had deleted scenes and Prince would've had some inpuy sad

He will. It will be called Purple Rain--The New Master

Scenes that where too cost prohibitive the first time will be upgraded with CGI this time around.
For example, instead of human "extras" in the audience, CGI Gungans will be used. Morris will ride up the the club on a Dewback, and Prince will whisk Appolonia to lake Minitonka on a floating speeder.

It will be TIGHT!!!

MTV Party...Who else loved..Little Richard, Shelia E (that was great) and Wierd al. Lionel Ritchie actually surprised me with his answers.

Who was that that talked after Lionel...was that Ann Wilson from Heart?...she was COKED up..fer real. But I'll tell ya they had one of the BIGGEST comebacks in rock history right after that interview...if it was her that is.

I'm actually watching the movie first, because I've waited sooooo long to see this in widescreen. My full-screen versions? I had two. Gave one away. The other? La Garbage. smile

I got ripped off though. I went to Circuit City. Paid $19.95. Online, it's 17.95. I could have paid with a credit card, and picked it up at the store. Saved the $2.

Lemme see if they have some type of policy covering this.

I'm gonna go back and see if I can get my $2, and put it towards UTCM, which I'm going to pick up on Thursday.

Gungans, huh? I hope they have a special appearance by Boss Nass and his funky band . They would fit right in at the First Ave club scene. Maybe Greedeo won't shoot first anymore...oh wait a minute wrong special edition smile

Wasn't it all about... :

*The Backstage pass, falling in love all over again.

*The respect & admiration everyone displayed while speaking about Prince

*The director giving us a less-than-authentic weeping segment
He must be affiliated with Warner wink

*Getting chills watching Wendy play the opening chords to Purple Rain on that acoustic guitar

*Wendy & Lisa- the homeless lady

*Sheila being a REAL ride-or-die chick... ((The MTV interview))
They don't make 'em like they used to.

*The irony of Little Richard then, and NOW the bible toting Prince (and Sheila)

Doesn't get any better, does it?

AGREED! I just finished watching it...a lot of things I didn't know...this is so far the best part of the "Bonus" DVD...Wendy and Lisa reveal who the "Purple Rain Lady" is. Also loved laughing at the "Sexshooter"video...I don't ever recall MTV playing Apollonia's phone conversation before the song starts...of course that was like 20 years ago and I was only 9 so I could be wrong!

I'm from NY, and the video show of choice was New York Hot Tracks. They always showed videos in their full-length. So I remember the phone bit. What I didn't remember was the bit about Brenda's man giving Apples his phone number, and Brenda biting her on the leg.

Went to Circuit city on my lunchbreak yesterday to get the DVD man was I amped! By 7pm the girlfriend is on my last nerve. She leaves around 9ish. I watch the special features and everything is right in the world. It's worth it for "Take Me With You and I would die for you/Baby Im a Star" alone. I love Wendy sooo much, you can just see it in her that she really loved Prince. I would pay to see Prince and Wendy play 2 hrs of acoustic. I liked how she broke out the guitar and gave the audience a crash course on chords of Purple Rain. Man Prince had an attitude walking onto the red carpet. It was cool seeing Big Chick holding it down (RIP). Man it really is like 84' again. Charlie Murphy hasn't aged a bit. Seeing him in that premier footage just makes the Chappelle stuff that much crazier. I really enjoyed how Prince was counting numbers off to his band on the Baby Im a star extended version. He also did that when he was in DC on the Purple Rain tour. I think MTV did a live broadcast. He was so raw whenever he did that finale. I own the Syracuse tape and although he brought half the audience onto the stage it wasnt as intense as when he grunted for 15-20 minutes by himself. How bout the movie trailers with him and Kotero naked in the barn in the hay and the Jelly bean fight. Im in heaven...

Not sure. From what I understand they sometimes process orders so they'll be delivered on the release date.

Yes! It was called Purplewear, and they also had the jumpsuit he wears when he's throwing rocks in the lake.

The baby Im a star performance looked very similar to the live simulcast that MTV did from DC around Thanksgiving 84'. Im not sure but even if it wasn't it was a similar show. I wish they would have put the venues of the performances for 'Take Me with U" too. I just remember being a youngster and sitting with my mouth open as the performance just went on and on. When Prince goes off like a black apostolic sanctified minister in his performance its really hard for any other artist to come close on an energy level. "Gimmie a 1 yall, gimmie a 2 momma". Im surprised that MTV or at least MTV2 havent dug up all that good footage to play this year. They should have shown it when prince was doing the BET/MTV Viacom thingee a few moths ago. Im still hungering to see "America" again as well as any footage from his bikini days. It's so sick when he throws out the records into that crazy French audience. The irony of the "America" video in France.

So nobody noticed who was standing behind Eddie Murphy??? Or did no one care?

I thought that was hilarious. The look on his face... looked like he just got beat in a game of basketball.

Wathced the movie with the commentary. Very interesting... they pointed out some cool things I didn't know. The whole Minneapolis/Burbank, Lake Minnetonka thing. They were too quiet in some parts. They should named some of the songs that didn't make it into the movie. Maybe they don't remember them.

bankguy said:

It is one and the same. It wasn't really a simulcast, this was recorded to be the videos for these songs. MTV showed both songs, but after awhile edited down, just for I Would Die 4 U.

Was anyone else totally trying to hear the background music at premier party, i heard madonna and some of Ice Cream Castles. Wasn't it funny how Eddie Murphy went to the commercial break. I hadn't seen "Take Me With U" since USA Networks "Radio 1990" tv show. I recall they used to play "Raspberry Beret" a lot. It was funny to see how nonchalant Sheila E was when talking about her duo with Prince on "Erotic City". That song was only one of the MOST controversial songs ever. Listening to her interview you would have thought that the song was tame and actually able to be played on radio. But I can tell that she totally knows how to handle the media when they try to get her to spill the beans and she never does.

It WAS Ann Wilson from Heart. They were kind of talking about her duet with Mike Reno of Loverboy from the Footloose soundtrack, "Almost Paradise" which became a big hit for them, but apparently Heart was in the process of recording the 'Heart' record released a year later.
