When 2 R In Love I'm not a huge fan of Prince's ballads, though I do like "Beautiful Ones, and Adore".
But I was listening to LoveSexy the other night (The first time I listened to the whole thing in years), and I noticed for the first time how nice "When 2 R In Love" is. The chord progression in the background, and the use of instruments doesn't just make this song appealing, it makes it almost joyous. It's the first time I really paid attention to the different layers of instrumentation on it. Suttle but at the same time, very powerful. The track mix is even a little awkward (probably on purpose) and that makes it even more appealing. It's wierd that I've spent years skipping that track, but now I have to say, though I don't care too much for love songs, this one is a realy jewel.

Yes. Sad but true. I've always written off MOST of his ballads as filler to please the ladies. I never really considered them achievements in their own right. But I've been going back through songs and albums I haven't listened to in a long time, and listening to them with a fresh ear. LoveSexy is brilliant. I mean REALLY brilliant. I never really payed much attention becuase it's equally perplexing. .. [This message was edited Sat Aug 14 19:16:19 2004 by AsianBomb777]

lovesexy is my fav album. We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

Beautiful song. I think Lovesexy is sort of overrated though.

I've done the same with some of his other slow cuts. If you really want to check something out - Listen to Mavis Staple's version of Positivity - On her cut you can really hear the beat. Nice. As for slow songs go back aways and check out It's Gonna Be Lonely on the Second cd. Granted it's dated but excellent. It's kinda sad in that he has written so so many songs that people could remake but everone only focuses on the newer stuff. I do not need another version of How come u don't call me anymore unless Aretha Franklin Sings it. Whendovescry2000 has shared his view honestly...

Sad but true. I've always written off MOST of his ballads as filler to please the ladies. I never really considered them achievements in their own right yea that is sad...real sad...cuz i think the ballads are what round his albums out...ya kno? whats even sadder is how underrated when 2 r n love is...u hardly hear ppl mention this song as one of his greats ya kno...but i put when 2 r n love up there wit do me baby, adore, the beautiful ones, condition of the heart and songs like that. LoveSexy is brilliant. I mean REALLY brilliant. I never really payed much attention becuase it's equally perplexing yea it is brilliant...i think its really underrated and it shouldn't b cuz next to controversy and parade its his best 80's album IMO...yea i feel u on the perplexin thing...but thats y i like it so much...its just like he said lovesexy was a mind trip and u either got it or u didn't...something like that. . I do not need another version of How come u don't call me anymore unless Aretha Franklin Sings it. WOW! that would b amazing if she did that. I like Beautiful Ones. I notice a lot of P fans love his ballads. Don't know why -- they bore the hell out of me. Luv & Peace, Alex Clubbin' in Mpls/A Night w. Prince

OH, I love WHEN 2 R in Love! When I put it on, I can't stop listening to it! Oh I love it so much! I get so happy when it starts! This is what I love best about it:
1. The way he says "train." 2. The way he says "can you hear me" at the end 3. The way he says "ACT" 4. The way he says "When 2 R in love" after the "ACT" part 5. The way he says "in love" at the end! OH!! I can't get beyond that This is a great song. I know he had to be so excited when he thought of it. ***** the sad and the lonely love the best "The poets are demanding their pay..."
