Prince can't touch Stevie Ray's legacy when it comes to covering Voodoo Chile (slight return). That being said, Purple House get's slammed up in here quite a bit, but I really enjoy listening to it. It's not over-the-top nor too showy. Plus, P does some laid-back, but great blues-house drumming on the track.
Side note: Anyone considering buying the Hendrix tribute CD should hurry and purchase the limited 2-Disc set. Disc 2 has a wonderful treat on it. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I totally agree with you. I own quite a large Hendrix collection, but I admit the "Live Alive" version of Stevie's "Voodoo Chile" is dare I say more enjoyable to listen to than some of the live versions Jimi played of his own song. I've heard the Prince version of Voodoo Chile and it's nothing special really. I prefer his live version of "Villanova Junction" and the opening riff to "Changes" played on the Canal Plus 1994 TV show rehearsal over his attempts to play Voodoo Chile and Red House. -----------------------------------------

A great version of my favorite Hendrix b-side "The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice" by Vernon Reid. Incredible! If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Wow, "The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice", what a great track, I forgot all about it! I haven't listened to it in years, so I'd better start looking for my "Loose Ends" CD now, which features a version with the lead guitar turned all the way up. This must be one of his most awesome psychedelic "acid" sounding solo's ever! The man is untouchable when it comes to the guitar... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

What else is on Disc two of the tribute and which tribute are you Talking about. If it is Power of Soul I haven't seen a two disc version anywhere. Do you have a link where I could pick one up?

I really liked his effoert on Rave2000, that solo was just amazing; Very inspired.
The tribute version is great too. It's a typical Prince studio cut. Very well crafted. -"If U don't like,
what U see here -get the FUNK out."

All of Prince's attempts to cover Jimi's songs have been lame.

Mark The CD is indeed Power Of Soul. The second disc only has 2 tracks on it, the fab Vernon Reid song and "Wind Cries Mary" by Seal. The 2-disc set may have sold out, as it was a limited pressing. The only way to tell if it's the double disc package is by a sticker on the front. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
