What is this song? I was listening to some old stuff I put together back a few years ago of Prince, and I came across this song.
It was very smooth, with a nice rythim, very soulful, with a starting slowy and building. I can't remember all of the lyrics but I remember the last part. The song is Joy in Repetition, and it's from the Graffiti Bridge Soundtrack. It can also be found on the One Nite Alone Box Set CDs SO WHAT IF WE'RE CONTROLLING ALL THE OIL, IS IT WORTH THE CHILD DYING 4?

Several years later Prince started to play these tracks during his infamous after party set lists. The most noteable was of course the Wembly Stadium after show in 1993 entitled Intimate and Small. He introduced the song as One Man Dan One Man Dan One Man Dam One Man Dan, obviously cryptically refering to repetition. He created the unique sound by forcefeeding the an harmonica through a compressor and adding a certain amount of distortion. This is where the guitar sounding solos come from. One Man Dan One Man Dan One Man Dam One Man Dan, or just One Man Dan to give its short name can now be found on the much sort after bootleg called One Man Dan One Man Dan One Man Dam One Man Dan and His One Man Band. I hope this clears things up a little. Incidently, the album Just Enough to Turn You on went multi-platinum which vindicated Sony's insistence that it was kept as a single disc. It is rumoured that the second disc, the outakes, were later released in 1997 as part of the Rabbit project. And we all know what happened to that. Mysteriously however, One Man Dan never made the cut. | |
