this song samples my sharona don't it? i'm almost 100% sure it does..someone pull out the liner notes and tell me whats up.

I know I've seen this thread before.

The answer back then was no and the answer is still no now.

"Gotta Stop" sounds NOTHING like "My Sharona" and contains no "samples" of that song.

It's not sampled by no means. One of the few songs I can think of in those days that were "sampled" was "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang or "Freedom" by Grandmaster Flash. Sampling didn't catch on till YEARS later.

Prince could have been influenced by "My Sharona" when he made "Gotta Stop (Messin' About)". They do sound good played back to back. Just like he could have been influenced by Gary Numan's "Cars" when he made "Automatic".

A lot of songs in general have similar rhythms or beats and sound good together. That's how mixing got started.
