the "lost" Prince music videos

With the release of the PR, UTCM, and GB, the majority of the music videos released by Prince in his early years are now readily available on DVD or VHS. (I'm still crossing my fingers for a SOTT DVD release in the US, so we can have "U Got The Look" and "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" on DVD too.) While many of them are only available on the annoyingly incomplete THE HITS COLLECTION DVD, the new DVD releases go a long way for a Prince video lover.

But there are a few "lost" 1978-1994 music videos that have not been released commercially in any form. This is the list I have created (am I missing anything?):

Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?
Sexuality
Automatic
4 The Tears In Your Eyes
America (live)
Glam Slam
I Wish U Heaven
Batdance
Partyman
Partyman (long stroke)
Scandalous

We may get lucky with the special edition DVD of Tim Burton's BATMAN that appears to be in the works, which could conceivably include "Batdance," "Partyman," and "Scandalous." The other videos seem unlikely unless we start to see DVD-Audio releases of early Prince records with bonus features or a brand new video comp that replaces THE HITS COLLECTION.

Here's my question: has anyone taken the time to compile all of these "lost" videos in one place? While I have all of them on VHS (along with many of the videos later released on the DVDs) it would be a dream to have them on one DVD so I can access all of them on the fly.

I would also love to see collection of the post-1994 videos. I own THE UNDERTAKER, THE SACRIFICE OF VICTOR, and THE BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE, but I have never seen any of the commercial videos from COME, THE GOLD EXPERIENCE, CHAOS & DISORDER, EMANCIPATION, or RAVE UN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC.

Any comments?

Brendan

Would be nice to see the full video for "And God created woman" rather than the short snip on the promo's for the album

There are a lot of videos missing from your list.

Just off the top of my head:

Paisley Park
Money Don't Matter 2Nite (version 2)
My Name Is Prince (full version, not the snippet from the 3 Chains O' Gold VHS. I think pretty much every song featured in that movie is edited down somewhat from the full versions.)
Nothing Compares 2 U
When 2 R In Love
The Most Beautiful Girl In The World

There are several more videos released after 1994. I'm sure some super-orger will post a complete video list soon.

I have seen some of these videos on Launch.com. I know for a fact that they have Scandelous and both versions of Money Don't Matter. I have watched them there.

I hope you don't actually think there was a video for this song. If there is, Prince has it locked away in his vault.

If youre talking about someone playing the CD through their TV with the closed caption revealing the wrong lyrics... I wouldn't wipe my ass with that if it was the last toilet paper on earth.

I remember seeing a video for "Let's Work" on Casey Kasem's Top Ten back in the day. Each week, Casey counted down the top ten pop hits. He also would show the list of top 10 soul and country. He would show a one video a week from each of the genres (I don't remember seeing country that often). These were the days before they were officially known as "videos".

Anyway, "Let's Work" was shown one week for the video for the soul top 10. It was shot on the same sound stage as "Controversy" and "Sexuality". Prince is wearing the same outfit and has the same hair.

MTV used to show the "America-Live" video. Prince plays the drums and is wearing a tan trenchcoat.

My hope is, if we all pick up the dvds that are out now, Warner'll capitalize on the excitement and put out a real Prince video collection, like the David Bowie one, with t.v. appearances an'all! headbang

Just to be clear, the list above is all of the videos that I already own on VHS, so I know that they exist. I was looking for any pre-symbol era videos that I don't yet have.

Yes there was a video for this song. It was created by Warner Bros. without Prince's consent and it was crap. But it's still a video and the original post asked for ALL pre-1995 videos not on his list. He didn't say exclude the bad ones.

Yes, key words being without "Prince's consent." Prince did not make a video for this song.

Someone at Warner Bros. was on crack to put this out.

Theres videos for "When 2 R In Love " , both a black screen with the lyrics appearing ,
the videos are slightly different purely cos the lyrics for The Black Album video version
and The Lovesexy video version are different , both videos are equally dull though razz

If theres a video for "Lets Work" about I've never heard if it before now though.
Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

And don't forget about FACE DOWN.

And as far as a video for 'Let's Work' goes, I'm sure that the person recalling this MUST be mistaken. I've never actually seen it, it's never on anybody's list of video boots available, and if it was shown on TV ever at all, then it would be something that would be easy to get (especially when we've got a lot of unrelesed vids out there that have now become commonplace).
If I want your opinion, I'll beat it outta ya!
