Your Favorite Prince Guitar Solo... I know this has been discussed before, especially on the old 'org'. So, what's your fav Prince Guitar solo. This is not a thread about how Prince ranks in the 'Greatest Guitarist of all time'list. I'm not educated enough in Guitarist or in RockNRoll, to even debate about it.
Some solos/songs that come to mind... 'I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man' 'Shhh' 'I Hate U' Just to name a few...Or what song do you think Prince really 'Ripps! his strings on...?' Blue Cashmere "Don't Play Me" Blue

For total guitar heaven, check out the "Small Club" bootleg. For all you anti-bootleggers on the Org, if you ain't heard this you ain't heard shit. This is Prince on some whole other level. "Just My Imagination" is jamming and making his guitar SCREAM!
On the "official" front, my favourite of all time (though not my favourite song) has to be Purple Rain. From the first time I heard it and then saw it in the film it filled me with new found passion. It was the true culmination of everything Prince had been leading up to, through Bambi etc. As much as I am looking forward to Prince's "Piano Album" from NPGMC, boy I would love to hear a "Guitar Album" showcasing some of those jams you know he can bust loose with. It's been lacking in recent times but I'm hoping will come back to the fore (the signs are there with TRC - an underrated album on the Org, methinks) Everybody is special. Everybody. Everybody is a hero, a lover, a fool, a villain. Everybody. Everybody has their story to tell.

His more recent output was indeed lacking though. (Rave, NPS, Emancipation).

I think Just My Imagination from Small Club takes the chocies.
There are many great ones though. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Alexa De Pare' We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

my favorite is the guitar solo towards the end of "Computer Blue"..
I like the way it floats & meanders.. I know he's got LOTS of good solos- many better than the Computer Blue solo, but that 1 is probably my favorite I'll see you tonight..

mine are:
GOD - Extra Lovable Annie Christian Let's Work - (well that's if Dez did that, but regardless it matched with the flow of the song and would make anyone do a breakdance spin into a split.) Computer Blue - that guitar solo was awesome it always warrents a rewind on my MD player. Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad

There r so many!!! 3 of them that come immediately 2 mind r:
"Peach" from the 4/29 Seattle soundcheck: the lil' man totally RIPPED it!!! "So Far, So Pleased": Even if you don't like the Rave album, u've gotta admit, this tune's guitar solo kicks major ass! And ... Of course ... the BEST: PURPLE RAIN. Still makes me cry like a baby!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Too many...but the ones that come to mind for me are:
The War Poor Goo I Rock Therefor I Am (from the audio show)--It's a remix with a horn section that makes the guitar even tighter! Gett Off live from the Hit n Run tour Purple Rain (CD and Live always gets me in tears) The ? of U When Doves Cry (full version of course...Wendy at her best) Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad? The Holy River I Hate U (the solo that got me back 2 listening 2 Prince after a 2 year hiatus)
