I need you guys help. I want to know what's the best Prince CD you'd recommend 4 me. I've already started my Prince collection of CD's and I want to get the best 1 next.

I already have:

Prince

Musicology

The Hits 1&2

Looking 4 more. I'd really appreciate it.

Sign O' The Times

tho be warned, this disc is in desperate need of remastering. So I'll apologise on it's behalf
for sounding quiet and a bit flat (the original vinyl sounded much better...honest)

Next CD for you to get has got to be Sign of the Times.

I would definitely recommend:

Gold Experience
Parade
Emancipation
Crystal Ball
I'll probably have a couple little sexies on the stand-by, and we don't want to upset them, do we? So you just glide by me and say...what?

SOTT and 1999 ...FAST!

PS...make sure your 1999 CD has the crucial DMSR song...
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

First, U need to determine if you are one of us.

Go out and rent Graffiti Brdige (the movie).

After watching it from beginning to end, if you still want to buy another Prince album, you have passed the test and may proceed to buying SOTT.

Sign o' the Times is essential to any Prince collection. An absolute must-have.

Emancipation is a good one, too, just for the pure volume. Go to Overstock.com; they're selling the 3-disc set for a VERY cheap $4.

You definitely need all of these:

1. SOTT (even though it really needs remastering)

2. Lovesexy (mainly a spiritual thing)

3. 1999 (long in places... but funkay!)

4. Dirty Mind (the album that revolutionized the sound of R&B music in the 1980s... though the Hits album picks up a lot of it)

5. The Gold Experience (might be out of print, and the sound is a bit "dated," but it's still a must-have IMO)

6. The Rainbow Children (I'll get flamed for saying it, but it's brilliant musically, and if you just ignore the lyrics and enjoy it, you'll love it)

7. One Night Alone... Live! (A great tour, great sound quality, and the only live release by one of our era's greatest live performers).

And once you've tired of all these, there's still another thousand songs to go, especially if you start going beyond released material!

I'd recommend starting with these:

Around the world in a day
Parade
SOTT
Lovesexy
Black album

In my opinion, that's the very best stuff then,
Controversy
Dirty Mind
For you
The Gold experience

Honestly just get all the official releases, there's really not a bad one there.

I'm really surprised no one mentioned ATWIAD. That, Parade, and Sign would be my votes. I guess the responders to this thread aren't the huge fans of the psychadelic era that I am. I'm not sure you really need controversey or 1999, as the best songs are covered on the hits, although you really are missing something not having the full version of controversey.

"The Hits/The B-Sides" doesn't even scratch the surface on these two albums. All it covers is the singles. It contains none of the best stuff like "Let's Work", "Lady Cab Driver", "D.M.S.R.", "Automatic", "Private Joy", or "Sexuality".
