It's easy to undertsand why the opinions are so mixed. All the fans were expecting Prince to continue the trip he set with TRC and NEWS and ONA (piano). But instead of continuing to evolve he looked back at his previous outings and assembled a fine new album. Musicology may not be groundbreaking but it's one hell of a tight listen. It did it's job of attracting lots of new fans, and that's okay, cuz Prince needs some finance some time to continue his erratic and weird musicul journey....

Well the reason for that is because their are alot of older close minded Prince fans on this site. They don't want Prince to age and change because they don't want to age and change. I agree with you about Musicology. I love the CD I think it is great and I really can't see how anyone could have a problem with it but give people a chance and they will bitch about anything.

I kinda feel like it's the other way around: the younger fans have embraced Musicology, because it sounds like a "classic" Prince album, except it's different because it's "theirs".

The older fans are saying, "Yeah, yeah, yeah... we've heard you do all this before, and it was better the first time..."

Except for the older fans who are listening saying, "Woah! I'm, diggin' what the kids are diggin'....! .....Hey, wanna see me dance??? .....WHHHOOOPS!! (Split my pants.....)"

Any album Yoko's ever done is better than 1999. hmph!

And what kind of works of visual art do you enjoy? Anything with more than one color? I don't mean to be nasty, but 1999 as a whole is one of Prince's ultimate masterpieces, and "Automatic" is one of the most outstanding scenes enacted among several others on the album. How can one not listen to it more than once and then say what you did about the album? Someday you'll see and be embarassed for what you used to say.
