What is your most treasured Prince rarity?

Quite aside from memorabilia (like the yellow jacket that Prince threw into the crowd during a Parade show at Wembley arena in 1986... I nearly caught it....) I'm referring to official/unofficial releases/non-releases that you're proud to have and will not bear to part with for love nor money...

Okay, this is really sucky, but I don't have any real rarities. What I do have is a love for Prince which none of my friends can or want to relate to. I have you guys to talk to about it all, and I treasure that!

I have to say, a rehearsal video of Prince in his basement studio with the Revolution that took place shortly before the release of the movie Purple rain. They were all dressed down, all but Prince, who was dressed up as usual. Pretty cool to watch them rehearse and all. Thats gotta be my most prize posession.

Well, to be honest, since i've only been collecting the stuff since Rave (fan long before that, but just got tapes recorded for me by my brother in law), my most prized items are Supercute single, Daisy Chain Single, Gold Nigga, and Madhouse on record. None of these are EXTRAORDINARILY rare, I know, but it's the best I can do. I'm kind of proud also to have the symbol necklace, seeing as I noticed it's no longer for sale. And what's with the Rave DVD? Is he not selling that anymore?

I guess what I'm saying is, the way he sells and then discontiues his stuff, it'll all be rarities pretty soon.

I have the first 2 issues of "The Truth" magazine and like 4 issues of "NPG" magazine....I really treasure the truth magazines though because of the quality of them...they are sooo well done and the graphix...very cool!! There also used to be a great website xcalled thetruthangel.com..very cool as well. They joined the collective early on and were supposedly going to be doing a real official mag with Prince and the NPG...still no sign of that and this way back in like 1999....too bad really!!

Oh yeah, and as for things I'd really like, it would be that symbol tambourine, a cloud guitar, Small Club on CD, Madhouse CDs, Beautiful Strange, Oh and a laserdisc player with all those movies and vids released to laserdisc, but never to DVD. AARRRRGHHH!

Has anybody got a copy on 12" of '51 Hours'? It was never released plus I hear is even rarer than the initial vynil pressings of 'Gett Off'

I do have that strange '10,000' magazine, which was really expensive and didn't seem to know which direction it was meant to be heading. There wasn't enough Prince/NPG stuff in it and it didn't really cut it as a 'Vogue' type thing. It's not my favourite Princely item, but it always reminds me of the NPG shop in Camden, London where I bought it from.

Are you not a member of NPG - Beautiful Strange is a track on Rave Into, which was sent out to all members last year (I got mine when I joined for the first time in Feb this year), and is now available in the retail section (although possibly in the members only bit?)

If you are after this, does that mean I have something considered a rarity???

The NPG music shop in London, I missed out completely!!! I was living in France through pretty much the whole time that was open, so didn't get there once. For some remnants though, try madhousemusic.co.uk - they've got some "special" items. And as my birthday's approaching, I've pointed several friends and family to that site!!!

Savoirfaire: You're doing pretty well for someone who's only started collecting since 'Rave'. By the way, the 'Rave 2000' DVD is still widely available if you know where to look - I've just seen a copy of it today at Tower Records

Already on it's way to you, giotto! And the Rave DVD has only just been released in the UK, I think - I got it from HMV about 6 weeks ago. It is FANtastic! The splits - WOW!!!

Em... not quite... there was a version of 'Beautiful Strange' that preceded the one on 'Rave Into'. The track that you get on that album is just a remix of the original version ( IMHO the superior version) which is only currently available on bootleg form.

'The Work' series by Thunderball is pretty comprehensive but it still (annoyingly) falls short and leaves out quite a LOT of stuff that is already available on other outtake bootleg CDs

MrHappy404: that rehearsal video of Prince in his basement (1984?) is one I'm still waiting to see!!! This is the rehearsal that features the first ever version of 'Our Destiny' and 'Roadhouse Garden', right???
Which brings to mind another video I still enjoy, this time of the classic show that Prince and the LOVESEXY band played with Miles Davis at the Paisley Park soundstage...('Chain Of Fools' with the late Boni Boyer is a highlight)Funny that Per Nilsen did not list this one in Turn It Up 0.2...

I recently got the 'Purple Rush' 6 CD set from Sabotage, which is crammed full of classic rehearsals from the Purple Rain era - in digitally remastered form... It contains the very best versions of 'Erotic City', 'Noon Rendezvous' and 'Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)' I have ever heard!
BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!!!

Yep got it. There is also another rare 12". In the UK
was released a promo for Mica Paris, "If I Luv U 2 Nite".
It was supposed to be her but it's Prince. 12 BRWDJ 207.
Released back in 1991.

Or the 1993 UK vinyl promo release that had remixes
of "The POPE" and " Pink Cashmere".
