it is weird how that works. right now i'm really feeling (parts of) emancipation...only 6 years later. i made a one-disc version of that album that i think would have made a better, flawless collection:

jam of the year
right back here in my arms
soul sanctuary
in this bed i scream
we gets up
courtin' time
joint 2 joint
let's have a baby
face down
style
sleep around
the plan
friend, lover, sister, mother/wife
the holy river
the love we make

My Questions are: Am I alone on this?.....Does this

happen to any of you?

my answer: this happens 2 me with ALMOST all of P's albums & i'd have 2 say Chaos & DisOrder was 1 of my MOST least played P rotation. now it "IS" in my Rotation smile

One Last Question: for those of you who bought TRC

in the store,..... Is your copy Tracked or 1 Track from

beginning to end, like the Download?

my answer: i have em both & the CD is Track'd

Hey y'all....Thanks for all the grat replies!! a couple

points 4 some of you out there in the purple fields...

Rave...just listen to it a bit..it'll grow on you I can't

say there's 1 song on there that isn't good...just give it a

chance.....same with New Power Soul..especially Come On &

Wasted Kisses (track 49) but they're all good I swear!..

As for The Rainbow Children....If you're still having

trouble with it....If Prince comes to your town this year...

Go see him...It will change your whole perception of the

album....I've been to Louisville, Indianapolis, both

soundchecks and an aftershow so far this year.....and after

attending the 1st concert I was hooked Big Time!!....

It's sooo worth the $100-$125 for up-close seats to this

you won't regret it I promise.....and If you weren't into

TRC before, you definately will be after seeing it performed

live.....there's nothing like it.....PLANNING ON GOING TO

THE ST.LOUIS SHOW TOO!!...Not to mention, The Celebration

this year.....Thank You all for the great feedback!

Come to think about it, when it comes to Prince, the best music of his takes awhile to grow on you. The exceptions are Gold Experience and Sign which I loved from the start and still love. But Lovesexy, Parade, Around the World, Symbol album, and Come took a long time for me to take in, and now they are amongst the best albums of his.

The worst Prince music in my opinion starts out instantly catchy but gets old. For me this includes NewPowerSoul, Rave, Grafitti Bridge, and maybe Diamonds and Pearls. Now believe it or not, I really, really loved NPS the first couple of times I heard it. I thought the first four tracks were really great, especially. But I got bored with it. There wasn't as much hidden in the music on that album as other Prince albums. Same with Rave, except I honestly thought it was lacking even since the first time. And Grafitti Bridge, I loved it the first two or three times, but it's certainly not his strongest album.

Keep in mind that the worst Prince music is still better than most anything else....

YES TOTALLY!!!

Something that is catchy right off the bat gets old quik! With P's music it grows on you...Like Rave (which is GREAT), Play it with phones on a few times and then tell me it isn't a great piece of work?!

I think it takes more time because of the layers and the complexity, not to mention the vast variety he incorporates. You can't catch all of it in one shot. I hear new things on Parade to this day!

It's what I love about his music...all the colors...

I'll try rave tomorrow with phones on.

That's what's so good about most of those albums. Even if he's got a melody that's amazingly beautiful, he might just insert it at the very end of the song, when it's allready fading. And then when U listen 2 Ur headphones and crank up the volume, U hear this really beautiful instrumentation which he could've saved 4 an entire new song. U know?

Two of my favorite endings like that are at the end of "Dark" and "Strange Relationship" so friggin cool.

I used to have the same experience up until Batman. Lovesexy was the last album that required 'the work' and that's what I used to love. From Batman on, he didn't confound my expectations in any way. Rave was the absolute low-point- I did try again the other day, but still came away feeling nothing. It is well-crafted of course, but always felt to me like he was just going through the motions. TRC thankfully was the first time in 14 years that I got that old feeling back. I put it on and thought 'now, what is he doing!' It was a great feeling. It meant I had to reasses him again and discard my expectations as a prejudice. 'Open your heart, open your mind...'

I usually like his stuff on the first listen, only a few songs have ever had to grow on me. Most often, if I don't like it the first time I never will, but that's pretty rare (Play in the Sunshine, anyone?).

TRC is indeed tracked, and I'm pretty good about getting his stuff on the first day of release. How can you wait???
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

Got it in October/November.....listened to it a handfull of

times since then and never listened to it all

the way through until about 2 weeks ago.....now it's all I

I play...constantly.

do you have very diverse musical tastes? i do, so i go thru phases where i wanna hear just classical, just 80's synth, just mariachi, just... whatever. now i'm diggin on prince - especially TRC - which is why i'm here on the forum i spose.

so i think you are perfectly normal.

There was a time after "Purple Rain" was release when Prince would release a new album, I would listen to it and feel lost. Because every album sounded not only radically different than anything else on the radio, but even radically different this Prince's previous releases. But after the initial listen, I understood the music and why it sounded that way.

I'm definitely with you on this one. It's so funny, because I was having the same thoughts as you about 2 weeks ago. I was on a 3 hour road trip for my job and I was pumping the Prince tunes on the stereo; Graffiti Bridge, LoveSexy etc. There were a few old songs that I listened to that suddenly had a new appeal to me. I mean they were all of a sudden "Da Bomb"!!! I was just sitting there thinking to myself "what have I been missing out on for all of these years." That's the beautiful thing about Prince's music...you can grow into it. biggrin
