And, I personally think Gospel music has sucked since Sam Cooke died. I think he was one of the very few artists who married gospel music with pop/soul/rock effectively...and also one of the few that attracted people to it for the aesthetic qualities. I'm an athiest-but I can listen to Sam Cooke sing gospel anyday

Prince doesn't know how to do that effectively. He's better when he has his own take on spirituality. Prince's strong suit is being a leader not a follower. Organized religion, or "organized" thought of any matter never makes for good art.

Most gospel music now and lately has been souless shit....
And I only say "most" because I can't say I've heard every album, but I've heard alot
and it all sucks...souless

I SO AGREE WITH YOU! Especially the part I bolded!! I know I am posting so much on this topic, but this is one album I would not BUY. I hope he doesn't do what one person suggested: a church album heavy on piano and blah blah blah. AAUGH.

I say YES. But not abandon all others.
Then again, what he considers "gospel" is different than most people.

Well, about a year or so ago I remember this woman saying that since she is "saved" (baptized), she doesn't/can't listen to R&B/secular music anymore. So, that's it -- some people want Prince to make a worship album, so that when they become "saved" and join the church and can't listen to secular music anymore (and have to give up Prince's "nasty" songs), they'll have something to listen to by Prince. How conniving of them! (ha-ha-ha). They'll now have Hezekiah Walker, The Winans, Kirk Franklin (yawn!) and Prince to listen to now.

I bet that Prince will one day release a gospel album.Alot of his fans won't like it and it probabaly won't be a big seller, but it will be something that he feels that he must do.Just my two cents...

Really now?
The bible or all those religions (religious cults) aren't alien to me... I reject them for a reason...

Neversin.

And those who try to live by certain spiritual standards and values do so for very specific reasons, not just because the bible says so. These standards and values have proven to be beneficial for so many. Prince didn't always focus on the bible or spiritual things. Most of the stuff out there in the world is not alien to him. Seems to me like he made a choice based on having experienced quite a bit, and chose his current way of life as an alternative to what most people see as "the good life".

Princes work has always been about worship. Be it the worship of a god, a woman or himself. Seems that certain groups get pissed depending on what particular entity Prince is worshiping at any particular time.
You do as I say
