We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced
when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

Paul Westerberg? I've always thought that guy kicked azz (actually moreso solo than with the Replacements despite most of his fans thinking the opposite) - I would recommend anyone who doesn't know to check out some solo Westerberg like "Best Thing that Never Happened", "Lookin' Out Forever", "Whatever Makes You Happy", or "Final Hurrah" (has one of those top notch PW lyrical genius lines, "You're my latest last chance". I'd love to know more about when he expressed that he liked Prince?

Phil Cohlen from Def Leppard mentioned in a heavy metal magazine that he had just seen Prince 6 nights from the front row on the Lovesexy tour starting in Paris.

Tim Farris from INXS- he told me that the Act 1 tour in New York was one of the best shows he's ever seen.

I seen the following at his shows:

Demi Moore
Bruce Willis
Tom Cruise
Penny Marshall
Michael McKean (Lenny from Laverne and Shirley)
The Calloway brothers from Midnight Star
Joey and Matthew Lawrence
Eddie Murphy
Blink 182's drummer
all of No Doubt
Clair Daines
Kevin from the Backstreet Boys
Outkast

No one mentioned the late, great Tupac Shakur...not only was he a big fan, but he also sampled the songs "Darling Nikki" (in the song "The Heartz of Men"), "Do Me, Baby" (To Live And Die In L.A."), "If I Was Your Girlfriend" ("Thugs Get Lonely"), "Pop Life" ("Pac's Life"), and "777-9311" ("Whatz Ya Phone #").

he was ok, not great.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that one is not accurate - I remember reading a few interviews in the late eighties where the Reid brothers talked about how they loathed Prince. They did cover (I use that word loosely) Alphabet Street, but I think it was meant as a putdown more that a salute.

Rahsaan Patterson

came over to my house for dinner... went through my prince stuff... and started talking like a true prince fam... he knew his shit!

He then proceeded to tell me that he sang backing vocals on the Martika version of Love thy will be done..

Rahsaan's new album has just come out.... its incredible and definately inspired by prince so go check it out!

Not sure if these have been mentioned:

Tori Amos (frequently covers "Purple Rain" in concert. Mentions "When Doves Cry" on her album Scarlet's Walk)

Tim Allen (has been seen at more than one Prince show)

Steve Tyler & Joe Perry (both have mentioned their admiration for him)

The Edge (someone already cited Bono, but I've read interviews with The Edge where he talked about what a huge influence P is. In fact, when they recorded "Lemon" they were trying to capture the electronic sound of Prince. In the Edge's own words, they failed. I'm pretty sure the entire band is into Prince)

Anthony Keidis and Flea (both Chili Peppers have shown P love).

Patti LaBelle (calls him "boyfriend")

Arsenio Hall (duh!)

Pat Boone (believe it or not! He talked about how groundbreaking Dirty Mind was in a recent interview)

I didn't know this. Is there a way to research how an artist has been sampled? Like how could I find out how many Prince songs have been sampled by hip-hoppers?
