Your favorite New Wave-style Prince songs.

What are some of your favorite New Wave styled Prince songs? In his early days he's toyed with this style and managed to fuse it with his Funk/Soul/Rock quite well. You could also throw in some songs he wrote for his other royal subjects (The Time, Vanity 6, etc.)You might think some of them songs are cheezy now, but you're dead wrong. Take it from me, I know. wink

Private Joy (the ultimate example of a New Wave Prince track!)
When You Were Mine
Ronnie Talk To Russia
Gotta Stop Messin About
All The Critics Love U in New York.

Any more?

doh! That's right, I totally forgot about Annie Christian. It doesn't get anymore New Wave than that. wink He must've been into a lot of Devo or B-52's at the time. I read that since was apart of the Warner Brothers roster, they would just send him free records. And a lot of the stuff he was hip to was the Punk and New Wave.

Annie Christian is definitely a New Wave Prince classic.

Parade has always been my favourite Prince album, always, ever since I first got into Prince in 1991, but Controversy is fast becoming my very favourite Prince record, I LOVE the New Wave Prince.

I did a compliation CD I did for the car, I called it Controversy+ - All of Controversy, plus a few tracks from the 2nd LP of 1999 and the odd Vanity 6 / The Time track.

I'd love to hear the unreleased tracks from this era.

Come on Prince, blow the fucking doors off that Vault. mad

I also really dig Prince's new-wavy songs. I wonder why he doesn't record in that style anymore?

Vanity 6's "He's So Dull" is very new wave. I love that track.

The other music I love is when prince crossed funk with new wave head on.

This is used to some degree of Controvery, but best of all on "The Stick"!

Also, here's some New Wave styled Jamie Starr tunes that I like wink:

Make Up
He's So Dull
After Hi School
Drive Me Wild (even though that tune is laced with funk as well)
Onedayimgonnabesomebody
Happy Birthday, Mr. Christian (this one is debatable).
