where's this from? A friend of mine found a bootleg in some store in California that he sent me. It's the most generic thing I've ever seen. It's on a plain Sony CD-R disc. There's an imprint that says, "Prince Live." The first 3 songs "Purple Rain," "Baby I'm a Star" and "Let's Go Crazy" are obviously from the Grammy show with Beyonce. But then it gets confusing. He does "Head" and "Sister" live. It sounds FAIRLY recent. After another break he does "Controversy." Then he moves into "All the Critics Love You in Paris," which I already downloaded from NPG Music Club. After that things get weirder. He does Paisley Park and 7. After that it's a super short version of Sometimes it snows in April (about 2 minutes long). He goes from that 2 "Uptown" and then ends with that "Let Old Friends Be Forgotten" song we all sing like drunken idiots on the last day of each year and then into a really heavy version of "Purple Rain." Anyone know where these tunes come from? I know the first 3 are from Grammy time. I know Controversy is from Hawaii (cuz I downloaded it from the club). I have NO IDEA where Head and Sister come from, but they sound like they were performed at the same show. Paisley Park? Not a clue. 7 gets a HUGE cheer and starts acoustic, so I'm assuming it's from the Musicology tour. Sometimes it snows in April also gets a GIGANTIC cheer, sounds acoustic and is prolly from the acoustic set he does on the Musicology tour (unless he's in Arizona). The hardest 4 me 2 pin down would be Uptown and that Let Old Friends Be Forgotten thing (it's like 16 minutes long). Not to mention the weird version of Purple Rain that sounds more heavy metal than ballad.
Any1 else have this disc? It's driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated! Luv & Peace, Alex The ONLY Catwoman review w/ Prince!

It's totally possible that the recording of those 2 were from around that era, I think he was particularly "nasty" in those days. Not sure what show it could be from though (let a boot expert handle that one), & I don't have that hodgepodge of a disc so I'm no help at all

'Head' and 'Sister' combination sounds like it could be from a Lovesexy tour concert. 'Controversy' could also be from this tour, but could also be from other tours or even the download from the NPG club.
Paisley Park and 7 could be from an acoustic set on the Musicology tour - it could also be from the last celebration at Paisley Park. Sometimes is Snows in April cif it's on guitar could be from the MTV Musicology special, or an acoustic set of the recent tour, or if on piano it could be from the ONA tour. Or again from the last celebration. The 'old friends be forgot' sounds like Auld Lang Syne/Purple Rain he did in 1987 at Paisley Park on New Years Eve (the one where Miles Davis appears) but he didn't do Uptown before so that sounds like it is from some other concert. But that's bootlegs for you - a right old hotchpotch from the sounds of it!

Great guitar jam! This is the one where a roadie was pulling on a rope to release a shitload of balloons, and it didn't work, right? If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

If it was, that solves 1 of the songs from the concert. And then Prince says something about "modern technology." Luv & Peace, Alex Clubbin' in Mpls/A Night w. Prince

Prince Yeah, the roadie gives Prince a rope to pull, with the idea that loads of balloons fall from the roof, but the rope just comes loose and ends up lying about the stage. So Prince ironically says, "Come get your rope, come get all your rope. Modern Technology..." as the roadie comes back onto pick up the rope. Prince was quite jovial but I wouldn't have wanted to be him after the show!
