Way too long.

A great album.

I could've done without some of the crappy songs, and the covers where unessesary.

But on the whole a great album. I was dissapointed only that it lacked the fierce instrumental arrangements of the prince album and the Gold Experience.

I think with some editing it would have made a very very strong double album.

The strong songs on there are absolutely amazing. The Love We Make, Soul Sanctuary, Face Down, etc. These are wonderful songs! It has filler, but because of these great songs (mostly on Disc II), I have to consider it a great album. Infact, he hasn't written this many great songs on one album since.

I heard this opinion and i agree:
It would been better if he made it as a one cd album ...

I am one the minority that likes the total set, all three albums. The Good songs outweigh the bland covers and dated club songs.

I really have a soft spot for this album, but about half of it has not stood the test of time. Even at the time of release, most reviewers spoke negatively of its indulgent qualities and most gave it no more than 3 1/2 stars, which is also what I give it.

Disc 3 is cool. I don't like disc 1 or 2 much. Along with Rave, this is the only CD(s) Prince disappointed me with.

I didn't buy this one until a couple of months ago. Strange that a new 3-disc set can go for about $9.99.

Anyway, I really do like it. Some of the Mayte-worship on disc 2 gets a bit old for me, but I love disc 3. Very good.

It's a brilliant record -- definitely top 5 for prince in my book. Had it been whittled down to a double album, it would have been his 2nd best after SOTT.

IMHO

Emancipation is also one of my favorite CD's, along with The Gold Experience and Chaos and Disorder. Emotions are high on these and I love most of the songs on all of these. Ripping guitars on TGE and Chaos as well.

Yes, it's a cover. Originally by Joan Osborne. I'm betting she wrote it but I'm not 100% sure...

I love disk 1. I like disk 2 only for that one line...."Come and get your come on". drool Other than that, disk 2 had entirely too much Mayte worship on it for my tastes. Disk 1 was just excellent from beginning to end. Never got into Disk 3 except for the two re-makes he does. All in all, a good album.

She didn't write it I guess. Prince credits a couple of dudes in the liner notes I'm pretty sure.
I do love Prince's version to death, though.

Exactly. Mayte "pussy-controlled" disc 2. I can't stand that disc.

Like you said, I do like disc 3. It's the only one of the 3 that sounds like the Prince I know and love.
