Help me convince someone...

Here is a quote from a friend's e-mail:

(Refering to an Eric Clapton concert here): "The best parts of the concert were the ends of certain songs when he would do a guitar riff that would take you on a Magic Carpet Ride. I can only think of one other guitarist (Carlos Santana) who can take you on these rides."

What 'easily' found footage (aka - no bootlegs) could I show this person to convince them that Prince invented said rides?

Thanks.

First you are going to have to find something to convince me that Prince is a better player then Clapton.

I don't know what rides you are talking about but Clapton's been doing it for a lot longer then P.

Just show them the RRHOF clip. If that doesn't convince them, it's not worth the time.

Loser here, I had a friend tape the RRHOF induction for me as I don't have VH-1 and they forgot to tape it. I wonder if I can find a copy on Ebay. I have yet to see the Harrison tribute and I hear it’s phenomenal!

Thanks.

There aren't many guitarists alive that could match Eric Clapton, we have to be honest about that. Assuming your friend has heard a lot of the more famouse work from the 80's, I would think officially released songs like Bambi, endorphinmachine, I Like It There, Interactive, The Question of U, Joy In Repetition, The Rapture, et al. could increase your friend's awareness of Prince's guitar prowess.

lol Succinctly done.

The Clapton thing, ehhh, I was more impressed with Clapton in the context of his work with Cream. Since then he's content in his role as a good guitarist who doesn't exactly have the imgagination or take the chances of someone like Jeff Beck. Quite frankly I find Clapton highly overrated when it comes to the "God" moniker that his fans of the '60s have given him. But I guess that's another thread...

Seek far and wide for a copy of the RRHOF performance of Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"...short of that, what about: "Joy In Repitition," "Computer Blue," there's some nice geetar work on the 1999 album, TRC, his self-titled second album...but when you say no bootlegs it's SORT OF limiting in some ways. He generally stretches out on the 6 string in live settings and with a lot of those out-takes, moreso than on his officially released work. Maybe just find the guitar work by him that you're most impressed with.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
