Who'd like another sprawling 3CD studio album?

Would you want another 3-hour set of new songs, or are you more interested in one disc at a time? Or individual downloads?

I appreciate Musicology because it's concise and doesn't outstay its welcome, but all this recent talk about the aborted The Dawn 3-disc set has got me wishing for another giant hard-to-digest set - this time with a full band, rather than the Kirk Johnson-drenched Emancipation.

What would you like next (aside from remasters)?

I believe that his next release will be a double album and i feel that he is gonna hit us with something astounding.

Yes

i quite like the idea.

something old, something new, something borrowed, something...

yeah, it's almost time for a nice, overwhelming opus

I think, with his general output being less prolific, and slowing down, single albums are better.

The good stuff is spread more thinly these days, so we don't need sprawling sets with a ton of filler.

I think Musicology is a good example of less is more.

Personally I would like to see Prince consolidate his Musicology success with another "accessible" single album (but one that really showcases his guitar skills - something sadly missing from Musicology) and then once the public are well and truly listening again hit with an opus like a 3CD "The Dawn"

Of course I'd also like to see "Roadhouse Garden" vault trax from Prince and the Revolution!

No doubt Prince will do something none of us expect again wink
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

Co-muthafuggin-sign! A nice single CD, well-thought out and cohesive, would do very well.

If he releases a triple album, it had better be eclectic, and showcase every type of music that
Prince can turn his hand to. The reason Emancipation didn't work was because it was too samey,
which is perfectly fine for a short single album, but over 3 discs you need radical variations in
musical style and tone to keep you interested.

I secretly dream of a double album that could rival SOTT or any of his best work. But at this point, I've given up.

I mean, Emancipation was the album Prince was "born to create", and I almost fell asleep on it.

Very good point. Imagine if Musicology overstayed its welcome with "Magnificent", "The United States of Division", and other crap that he subtly releases on his website. It'd be less of an album. I think that Prince proved 8 years ago that he's no longer at a place where he can succeed creating three albums of music; it all starts to sound the same. Stick to single albums.

I'd like a 3 cd set of previously unreleased material (or bootlegged material) with some of my favorites like:

I Wonder
Moonbeam Levels
Love, Thy Will Be Done
Days O' Wild (studio version)
Old Friends 4 Sale (sans horns)

I have so many songs of his that I love but the sound quality is quite poor and I'd love to have pristine copies of these songs.

And new material (good material) is always welcomed!!!!

I hope his next album is really lame pathetic and gay.
I think After this so called come back, he needs 2 do something to destroy all his hard work.
I hope it is some house album, with gareth Hates appearing on every track.
trust me, his next album will be his weakest yet.

Depends on what it sounds like. I thought Crystal Ball was okay, but I hated most of Emancipation. So far, I haven't been a fan of the 3-disc sets, I guess. Emancipation reminds me of The Backstreet Boys with talent. It's probably Prince's least inspired work, but it is good to fall asleep to. As long as he doesn't kick out another 3-slab set of corny pop (like Emancipation), I'll be happy.

Hell, I'd like a 5 CD set every year. It's not like I'd be broke from spending my money on other artists' current albums. The rest of music today ain't shit so I'd like to have enough material to tide me over to the next Prince album.

I'd loce 2 have Prince release a 3-CD album. I LOVED EMANCIPATION! AND I DON'T CARE IF EVERYONE ELSE HATED IT! Of course it had some filler-trax, so what....radio is filled with those 2day. In my opinion every slow song on CD 2 is ten times better than Call My Name & I love Musicology. Any Prince set that will give me gems like Joint 2 Joint,Mr Happy & Face Down, 2 name a few.....bring it on!
Don't u want to come , 3121. It's gonna be so much fun, 3121. That's where the party be, 3121. Y'all can come if u want to, but u can never leave!

I like "Emancipation" also. I agree, there is some junk on there but there is some good stuff like "We Gets Up", "Slave", "The Human Body", "New World", and "Emancipation". I don't care too much for disc #2.

If Prince still has what it takes to make a 3 CD album, and it turns out to be something HE is proud of and showcases different sides of his musical personality- then I say by all means do it. Because if it's something that comes from the heart, I'll probably enjoy it....

I third that motion. Emancipation is great. There are at least 6 excellent tracks on each cd. Some folks think its cool to only love his obscure titles. I wouldnt trade this cd set for almost anything.

It's funny you love Emancipation and I nearly hate it, but the 3 songs you named are 3 of my favorites.

That was a sort of lame observation, but I needed to share.
