This is a funny song, I always get a good mood when I listen to it in my car. One of his funniest songs, it is meant to be silly and it works 4 me. lol

Let's face it, it's not really a song. It's just a drum and bass jam session muck-about that happened to be recorded and kept. You can't critique it like a normal song, it's just Prince having a laugh, he didn't write it.

I find it pretty entertaining in small doses, but it lasts entirely TOO long. I always end up skipping to the next track after a few minutes.

I think it's a fun tune. I bet you it would have been better received as a hard-to-get bootleg.

This is my favorite track on the "Crystal Ball" album. It sounds so much like "Tricky".

He stuck Cloreen Baconskin on Crystal Ball in all it's entirety, yet he faded out Crucial early!
(sometimes I think he does stuff like this on purpose just to piss us off)

It's an interesting piece of work. If only to hear something in the skeletal process. He didn't necessarily have to put 15 minutes worth of it there but it's nice to hear.

I dig it. One of the few high points of Crystal Ball, in my opinion, even though it is just a skeleton.

Now, where can I get this full length version of CRUCIAL?????

There are two "full length" versions of Crucial, one featuring inspired saxophone work by Eric Leeds, another where P's guitar work is most predominant.

Which one do you need?

Whatchu need, whatchu need, you wanna -- you wanna open your hat? You wanna open your hat? Well open it up, come on, get down!

Then Morris opens the hi-hat, and Prince does that "ha-dat-di-daaaht!" half-scatting/half heavy breathing shit, and oh Lord, I need to go spin this song now!

Later, babies...

I'm with you.

I do have it on repeat. And to me the length makes it really interesting... so much little things and changes going on there all the time. Lovely jam.

Neither is too different from the other, or indeed from the version on CB.

Nice to have but not essential, don't worry. Take your time and get them when u can.
