Prince says he wants less explicit lyrics

Prince says he wants less explicit lyrics
NEW YORK (AP) — Prince is turning down his mojo.

Prince is listed as the No. 1 "greatest rock frontman" of all time, beating out Mick Jagger and Robert Plant, in the August issue of Spin magazine.
By Tsugufumi Matsumoto, AP

"I have a responsibility to (young fans) to perform in a manner that I would like my children to be performed in front of," he says in an interview to air Tuesday on CBS News' The Early Show.

Prince, who has written songs such as Get Off, Wanna Be Your Lover and Kiss, says he's moving away from the explicitly erotic lyrics of the past.

"I just want to be the best human being I can be ... on stage and off," he says. Excerpts of the interview were released in advance.

The 46-year-old singer-songwriter is listed as the No. 1 "greatest rock frontman" of all time, beating out Mick Jagger and Robert Plant, in the August issue of Spin magazine.

Prince earned a 10 out of 10 for sex appeal, in a vote of editors, and kudos for singing like an "oversexed elf."

Interesting about his comment about what he'd want his children to hear or see.

I've long been of the impression, regarding posting and discussion boards, that if you wouldn't say it to your mother, we probably don't want to read it here. Hmmm...

He's really starting to piss me off.

I don't care if it's because of his age or his religion or whatever, being more "mature" (whatever that means) doesn't mean you have to be boring.

He's such a hypocrite too. Especially when he criticizes the sex-centralized culture we have now. Does he just accidently-on-purpose forget that he's one of the people who helped create it? Acting all holier-than-thou.....

I love him to death, but sometimes Prince is a jackass.

cool He is the creator of dirty. The originator of explicit lyrics. Why now all of the sudden profanity is such a big sin to him. It's funny how Prince had to change his religion to now realize it is not nice to curse. HEH! HEH! What A Joke. Here is a man who use to not give a damn about what people thought about him & now he does.

Have u all ever heard of Little Richard, Al Green? This always happens.....overtly sexual at the beginning 2 middle of careers then maturing and distancing themselves from the past bcuz they've had a religious experience. He feels he's contributed 2 that decay that he spoke of during his RRHOF speech. So he denounces his past, bcuz if his concerts r 2b family friendly then he must change and speakout about it. Prince does'nt care what people thinks of him. Prince cares what Prince thinks of himself. Back when he was dirty he was'nt as comfortable and easy going like he is now. Thats bcuz he is comfortable in his own skin he can now look in the mirror and b proud of himself. It does'nt seem like he's fighting himself like he used 2. I like it, and he is still funky as heck!

Everyones views change as they age/mature. What seemed cool whan you're 23, might make you cringe when you're 43. Most of us think our parents don't have a clue when we're in our teens, as as we go through the twists and turns life gives you, you realize they were almost always right. Prince has mentioned that he himself pushed the envelope as far as it can go, so he doesn't think it has to be pushed anymore. I don't personally care if he's being nasty or singing about his God, or even singing about watching the grass grow. I just want him to keep giving me music that blows my mind away. I used to think the WWE (WWF, whatever it is) was entertaining. Now that I don't, does that make me a hypocrite?

I understand that people have different tastes, and there is no such thing as a musician/band that can be everything for everybody. But it's absolutly amazing to me that anyone could find Prince 'boring'.

I agree.

One of the things Prince became famous for was being a wild sexual motherfucker who just got up in your face with shit. The other night at the show, he lifted up his shirt for a second and all the women went crazy. They still wanna see that shit. And I've never been a fan of his cursing, but they sound cool in songs like Housequake, Erotic City, Sister, etc. I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. But it just goes to show how soft he's gotten. He doesn't have that raw edge and attitude anymore, and his music is weak because of it.

Sure clean it up if he wants, but he can still talk about sex. I don't think Barry White ever swore, but I'm pretty sure he was singing about getting laid. What scares me is Prince may become Asexual, which is far worse that what many fear that he is... Bisexual!

I'm sure when I'm his age, I wouldn't want to wear assless pants either, but why criticize the younger artists that he trailblazed a path for? I had to sneak "1999" in the house becuase the cover had a penis on it, and "Lady Cab Driver" was the dirtiest song I'd ever heard. He seems to be raping the Cab Driver on the record. Crazy shit, and very dark..

I always liked the dirty songs, but Prince has always been more than that. He had it all.. from "The Cross" to "Head" Prince was so real on so many levels..

Peace..

I've been soooo in love with Prince for soooo long and I gotta say that I'm really getting into the new "style." Yes, he used to be in your face and all that, so his newfound modesty probably wouldn't work if he had been this way from the beginning, but OMG! I love the tease, the slow burn. We saw him in Dallas and right away, he was teasing the audience with his sweaty black lace hankies, wiping his brow, holding them out to the crowd, but then sliding it back in his breastpocket. Once or twice, he threw them to the audience -- just enough to make everyone groan. And how about in "Don't Make Me Sleep on the Couch"? Everyone in the place went WILD when he sang "I wanna go down South." So of course, he had to stop everything and chastise us for our dirty minds and say he only meant "down South to Texas." He's still go it. Oooooh, he's GOT it, but now he's playing it closer to the chest and there is something so incredibly sexy about that. Could he get away with that if we hadn't already seen and heard how downright nasty he can be? Probably not. But now I listen to "Musicology" and absolutely THRILL to every bit of innuendo, every little sound he makes. Now he's not just throwing it around to everyone who wants it -- it's special and he makes you think how wonderful it would be if you could, somehow, be That One.

Think about it. On "What Do U Want Me 2 Do," he's making it clear that he's married, but that he understands she's calling him out. So EVERY SINGLE TIME he says "What do u want me 2 do, girl," my mind is free to .... wander. razz I could go on and on with this. I totally agree with the post that said Prince cares what Prince thinks of himself. AMEN. If you're doing it right, isn't that what getting older is all about? The man is totally comfortable in his own skin and that is the ultimate turn-on.

After seeing him play "Love Bizarre" and "D.M.S.R.", on this tour, it's clear the man tries to have it both ways.
"It gets kind of rough in the back of limosine?"
"Get busy in the middle of a restaurant"?
He's still brings out some of the sex stuff....but its PG-rated, that's for sure.

It's funny that Prince now says that sex isn't important and that promiscuity is evil and monogamy is the best way to go.

Of course he has come to this "realization" only after fucking and getting his dick sucked by countless supermodels, actresses, and other beautiful women. I'm sure if I went through that much pussy, I'd get a bit tired of it as well and decide to chill a bit. More importantly, he is older and his testosterone levels are dropping rapidly.

That is the real reason that he isn't into sex that much now, but he isn't intelligent enough to realize that, and instead he feels like now he sees "The Truth" that dirty lyrics are bad and that sex with multiple partners is EVIL. If he had stayed with one woman twenty years ago, maybe I'd listen to him at least a little, but as it is, he just looks like an idiot and a hypocrite who didn't practice what he is preaching until he got old and tired and less virile.

Prince is a musical genius, but I don't know how he would fare on an IQ test. I love the guy, but sometimes I see why much of the general public views him an an eccentric fool....it's because he is one.
