Is Prince a good business man?

Does he still make money? I know he used to and some thought he went broke due to bad decisions he made but he doesn't seem like the type of guy that wears the same clothes more than once and I'm sure he pays somone to make some of those funky outfits cuz you can't find them in my mall. biggrin your thoughts... shrug

If you judge a businessman by his ability to maximize revenue while limiting expenses, then I don't think Prince can be rated too highly. He's undertaken a lot of costly projects that had limited commercial potential, which has caused him to allegedly suffer some pretty severe cash-flow problems at several times in his post PR career. (i.e. The Lovesexy tour of North America - one of the most expensive stage-shows to that point at a time when he was on the wane commercially.)

He's undoubtedly very wealthy, but he could be worth much more if he'd been less extravagant.

He's done wonderfully for himself since leaving WB's...but as a FAN, I can't help
but point out that he could have made a KILLING...KILLING by releasing
more live performances on DVD, more video's on DVD, the Xpectation Concert Week,
live performances on CD...instead, bootleggers got the profits.
Ultimately, he's very well off, and this year will bring in much $$$$...he's worked hard
and deserves it. nod
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

No should be too concerned about him going broke anytime soon. If PPark is still open and being used, and the royalties and publishing money from his back catalouge is still pouring in, he is in good standings. Plus, with his business advisor L. Llondell McMillan working with him, P will be sitting pretty come next year when he is back on the Forbes top 100 wealthy celeberties list. His current tour will bring in about $100+ million alone just on ticket sales, adding in the merchandising rights, master ownership of Musicology and the revenue that comes with it, he'll be able to keep his custom tailor and PPark staff on payroll.

The words 'Prince' and 'businessman' don't belong in the same sentence together.

He's a piss-poor businessman (see NPGMC Year 2 for details).

However, as an artist, he's second to none. And ultimately, so long as we keep getting new music from him, that's all that matters.

You experts are SO amusing! As another poster said, everyone makes poor business decisions at some time. I think the CNNfn interview this week will allow us some insight into his business practices, although not enough, I'm sure, to satisfy those who want to know all or who will criticize how HE handles HIS business no matter what!
