The wrong time! Hey all,
As sum of u will know im a young pince fan, and have been now 4 around 6 years, but started 2 collected he's albums this year, any way, i've been thinking a lot about being a fan of prince, i was thinking that maybe i have got into him at the wrong time, Im sayying this because, maybe soon he is gonna retire and what do i do then? Ok i could enjoy he's oldie's but it wont be the same, I love seeing him on magazines and Sumtimes on T.v, but what if he does retire soon, I've missed everything in the past, with what he has done, that so many people have been through with him. I just wish i could of been there in the 80's or early 90's and im thinkin now, its 2 late! Keenmeister

Sometimes I feel the same way, like "why wasnt I born in 75 rather than 85?"
My brothers always shoving it in my face that I missed Princes "Purple Wonder Years" But that doesnt bother me. I love mostly all of his stuff old and new and I think hes got enough juice in him to keep on going for many more years. Besides, if he does stop putting out music (cause I know he'll never stop recording) there are enough obscure singles and rare DVDs to keep us busy for some time! If you will, so will I

I can relate. Sometimes it makes me sad that I couldn't have been a teen in the 80's when songs like When Doves Cry and Kiss first came out.
Would've really been great to be a fan of his when he was in his prime and releasing groundbreaking albums. The only chance I got to see Prince in top form was when Batdance or Cream would come on when I was a kid. I was way too young to appreciate them though. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Like everyone here said Andy, don't worry. Prince is still going to be around for a long, long time. Just enjoy the funk that you have and keep looking forward to future funk. I really hope you get to see Prince when he comes to your area. He's going to blow your mind, believe me. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Just to cheer you up...
Prince is a huge fan of Robert Johnson. But Robert Johnson died a long time before Prince was even born. I`m a fan of Robert Johnson, too. I`m also a fan of John Coltrane who died 4 years before i was born. What about Jimi Hendrix? Johann Sebastian Bach? Are those guys in the media? I am so sure you will see a Prince concert really soon. Honestly. Gesh - imagine you would have just discovered Michael Jackson. A friend of mine showed me a Michael Jackson concert from the BAD Tour 1988(which was unbelievably good). Well - he might be alive, but you`re not going to see another concert like that. So why are you worried about Prince? He`s has been playing and performing so well these last years, and soon you`re going to witness that with your own eyes and ears. Don`t worry. Love...thy will b done

I wouldn't worry.
I became a fan in 1991 and I feel the pangs of 'what if I had become a fan sooner'. At the end of the day, we love the music, and even if Prince fell of the edge of the Earth tomorrow, you have his entire released back catalogue to explore and enjoy - including released albums, singles, b-sides, mixes, protege acts, albums, singles, mixes, related artists, bootlegs, out-takes, live recordings, yadda, yadda.

I know exactly how you feel Andy. I became a fan last November, and I always wish I was born earlier. I was born in 1989, and I always regretted not being able to be there during the 80's and such. I went to the Musicology concert in ATL and I'm sure when he comes to your area you will be able to go, just look forward to that, cuz it is off da hook!
Just wanted you to know that I can sympathize with you alot...lol But I'm sure he still has sum Purple juice still in there for another 10 years...lol (Hopefully). We'll get thru it together....lol

Prince is not going anywhere. He said he was going to retire after he released the symbol album in 1992 and he is still here.
And you are right, you don't know what you missed in the early 1980s. From "Dirty Mind" through "Purple Rain" was the "old Prince". That was the best era...the Minneapolis Sound, and there won't never be another time like that again unless he releases some unreleased stuff from that era. Andy is a four letter word.
