It's great. There are moments that you realize a lot went into the production of it. I was at one of the shows when I was younger, but having seen the show as an adult on video, I was floored at just all that went on I had no idea about. Certainly has one of the best openings of a show.

One of the best shows I've ever seen. I was front row center at the Denver show and it changed my life. No words will ever be able to describe that show. There was nothing like it before that tour, and they'll never be another one. worship yes

The (European -that's what I know) Lovesexy '88 tour was DA BOMB!
Very impressive, it made all the critics and fans droooool big time, over here.
When I saw it, I was a fan immediately.
IMO the best shows he ever did, even beating the SOTT tour. (which was mindblowing already)
The two vids of the tour were an excellent representation of the show, and I hope they get released on (a single) DVD soon. (any news?)

I especially love 'Blues in C' (If I Had A Harem), When You Were Mine, and that piano recital ,awesome!

Any mpegs/links around here?
Ta!

Words cannot describe how awesome this show is... my only advice, do not settle for any crappy VHS versions going around. Get the DVD transferred from the LD. I did, and it is just as incredible now, as it was back in '88.

Watching the recording, isn't the same as being there. You missed the pinnacle of his career if you didn't get this album or see the tour.

ABSOLUTELY a must have. Nothing has come close to that one. A friend of mine gave me this video a few days before I went to my first Prince concert (Act I) to give me an idea of who I was about to see.

It was this show that hipped me to a lot of other songs that I didn't know about and made me go find the albums to which they came. I gotta say, I loved the live version of sister sung in his natural voice better than the album version. HEAD! again, this live performance was BAD-ASS! Then into superfunkycalifragisexy! all jumpin on the bed like a crazy man. Too cool.

The album doesn't hold up to the LIVE SHOW, in my opinion.
yeah, I said it.

Nothing comes close to it. I still show friends pieces of the show, just to see their reactions, which is always saying enough!! Lovesexy live never really got out-dated and like someone said above; the opening of the show is just amazing!!!!

See, Lovesexy is a prime example as to why I love Prince SHOWS more than Prince CONCERTS. A lot of Prince Fams say the LoveSexy Show was "distracting" from the music, but I disagree. Even with all of the props and "stuff" on the LoveSexy tour, the music never suffered. Prince is one of the few artists that can sucessfully pull that off. The LoveSexy Show is legendary to this very day and arguabley his best IMO.

Don't get me wrong, the One Night Alone tour and the Jam Of The Year Tour with it's basic stage and music was fine, but I would always rather have The LoveSexy and Sign O The Times tours over those any day.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

Lovesexy 88 was the first concert I ever went to when I was 14 years old. I hoodwinked my mother into taking me. The whole time she was like " Did he say fuck? What the hell.....that man is a heathen." lol That show was so incredibly spectacular, words just can't do it justice. I remember I damn near cried all the way home because they announced an afterset at the end of the show, and I couldn't go. I recently got a copy of the tape of the performance from a friend, and it brought it all back.

You betta' get yourself a copy of this! (If for nothing else than to see Prince do Bob George) And I mean right now.

If you've never seen it and you really want to experience it fully, hunt down a copy of the original european broadcast NOT the released 2 VHS set (or whatever LD to DVD rip)...
Just the one show on 1 tape complete with the bombastic transition from "Hell" to "Heaven" which got lost on the released LD and VHS sets...
I went to a couple of these show back then and didn't really like 'em then and still don't now, mostly because of the annoying "medley" style of the shows (he did have the coolest stage ever then though and a great freaky style: visually everything was an upgrade from the SOTT Tour but musically it was a huge downgrade IMHO...)
It was a nice tour but it lacked the amazingness of his previous tours, most notably the "Parade"/"Hit 'N Run" Tour and the Sign "O" The Times" Tour, but ironically enough he did have the best, most spontanious aftershows ever in his entire career during this tour...
That was when he improvised and just really jammed (not like nowadays when he just plays rehearsed aftershows and leaves improvisation at the door...)
And that was also when you could get a real glimpse of HIS musical mastery instead of just his band's (like nowadays)...

Neversin.

I got this on dvd and its from the Laser disc. The show is great especially with the SOTT/Lovesexy band. They were the best band Prince ever had. I still think SOTT is slightly better. I also have the "4 Those Of U On Valium" dvd and that show premiered the SOTT songs and it's definetly not to be fucked with either.

The 83 First Ave is AWESOME - the vocals for Purple Rain were taken from that performance.

Dortmund was a wild show - good stuff!
