Fam Presence at the Funeral??

I would like some input. I was thinking it would B a good idea if a few local fams would show up for the service. I could easily B wrong and maybe it's a horrible idea but, I have met Prince's Mother on several occassions and it always seemed 2 me that she was quite fond of the fams. I just think it would B a nice gesture 2 show up and represent ALL of the fams that seem 2 care so deeply.

I will B going regardless and if anybody else from the twin cities area would like 2 join me, let me know...

Terrible idea. Try to reign in just a little bit of reality here, ok? You are not a friend of Prince or his personal circle of family and friends, no matter how touching and intimate a designation you might think the word "fam" is. Instead, pay your respects by not showing up and letting his private life remain private. You get enough of Prince (and all you're entitled to) through his music. Let his family stay his own.

Well, there's no way on earth that I could go (in the UK), but I don't think it's a horrible idea to. However, if I thought there were going to be lots of other fams, I wouldn't show up. I think definitely the emphasis should be on representing the fam community, rather than the entire community showing up! Please pay a respect for me, Eric. smile

Additionally, if faNs were allowed at such a personal event as his mother's funeral, there would still be the inevitable fool who shows up dressed in a trenchcoat or with the word "slave" on their face. Since you're using 2s and Bs and Us, I wouldn't put it past you.

Aww, shut up KellyAnne. You said the new design sucks, did you not realise that we conducted an in-depth study of your personality and designed it to be exactly how you didn't want it?

If Mattie did like the fam/ns, it would be fine for a couple to show up. No more than 3 though. Of course, it all eventually comes down to her family's decision. If someone says that they don't want any 'outsiders' there, we - well, the MPLS fans - will have to respect that.

However, it's going to be a huge funeral, so if noone expresses an objection, what does it matter?

I am only responding b/c you asked for input. If there were a way to designate a few people to go on behalf of the Prince community then I think it would be a nice gesture. However, for fans (and I do mean fanatics) just to show up I think is a little creepy. I know the guy lives in the public eye and should be used to whatever obsurdities that may ensue, but it is his day to grieve his mothers death, not be hounded by a fan trying to show support. There are some people who would actually shout "Prince we love you" as he makes his way to his car thinking that they are showing support. I think a funeral is not the place to show your support as a fan. That is for the concerts, the music club, even when he is out for a coffee, but not a funeral.

If you knew his mother personally, and it would not necessarily have to be on a first name basis, it would be appropriate for you as an individual to attend to show her respect.

PrinceOscar, I don't think it's so much showing support to Prince, but showing respect to Prince's mother.

My opinion? Not a good idea. Tell you why. We all know that P is a very private person. Unless peeps get an OK from the man somehow, it's NOT a good idea. Let the man be. All it takes is one crazy fan to cause a scene. How unfortunate that would be. I'm not saying that any of you are crazy, but they're out there. I say, let the man grieve in peace. If he wanted us there, he'd say so.

Newpowergeneration, yeah I am cool with going to show respect for his mother if you somehow knew her. I cannot see why any fan/m who did not know his mother would need to show their respect. They might as well pick an obit out of the paper and go show their respect to that person that they did not know.

If I have a friend whose mother dies and I did not know her, I would attend the funeral as a show of support to my friend, not out of respect for the person who has passed. The difference here is that Prince is not my friend.

Here, here Kelly Anne. Funerals are for families and friends. Give him some privacy for once.

If you knew Mrs. Baker on a personal level and want to pay your respects, then that would be appropriate. But going to the services just because you are a fan of her son would not be appropriate.

We as fans/fams can write our condolences on fansites, send flowers or a card. He does not need anything else from fans. He has a wife and family to help him in his time of grief.

It's unfortunate that the details of the time and place of the services were released in the newspaper. But someone in the Nelson/Baker family released that information. It does make you wonder why the information was released if the family wants this to be a private service.

just an opinion here...but as much as we may 'love' prince or believe we have some sort of kinship with him due to the way his music 'speaks' to us...the loss of a loved one is a very personal issue..
the fact is prince is an entertainer..he isn't our 'friend'..we have no business invading his personal life ESPECIALLY something as personal as the loss of his mother..
please don't attend the funeral..the media will turn it into more of a circus than it deserves to be already...
peace,
rio

A death in the family is a very personal thing. Unless you know Prince or his mother personally and I mean personally you have no business being at the funeral, that would be more of an intrusion than a comfort.

I think that if anything, as fams, we should just keep he and his family in our prayers, if you pray, and leave it at that. I don't think that we should impose by being present at his mother's funeral. Did any fams actually even try to go to his father's funeral?

it's not rude if you actually knew the person that the funeral is for!!!! I think if any of you prince fans (local) actually knew Mrs. Nelson-you should go and pay your respects! You would do that for anyone else right? Just because she was the mother of an extremely famous artist doesn't mean she deserves less respect! What's wrong with some of you people in here.

Please let our Prince pay his respects in peace. I feel that this gesture is not only intrusive, but disrespectful. He knows our thoughts are with him, that is enough.

Right IF you knew the person. Not just as Prince's mother though. If you actually KNEW her and HAPPEN to be a Prince fan, fine go. But DON'T go because you THINK you know her because you saw her at the Celebration or something!

Don't go. Prince deserves his privacy at a time like this. He doesnt need gloating sycophants in this time of grief.
Unless u knew her personally, u have no reason to go.Give him some space, u all must know how hard something like that is.
