beautiful but strange (if you pardon me the pun):

it's using bootleg artwork (from that French website) to refer to 'Xpectation'.

Something wrong here I believe !

It is a bit odd... but I like it smile

Of course they would like to sell their DVD, but they did bother to include snippets
from Xpectation and mentioned the club.

Ok, so Universal have some rights to his past music, and now they make a pretty weblink, what else is part of this deal between Prince & Universal?

(Maybe Universal had alot 2 do with putting the LIVE DVD into cinemas)

Notice how they wrote "to" as 2, but left "be" as be? I think that if you're going to be a dweeb and write in Princebonics, you might as well not do a half-assed job at it. Go all the way!

Yo,

let's hope there is going to be a a cool new Prince record coming out thanx to UMG. Wouldn't it be great to see a major release again - and maybe, maybe they would "force" Prince to be a bit more commercial again (hey, to each his own, I dig his new stuff, but I LOOOVE his old stuff - and a bit more compact 4 minute Prince with proper chorus, bridge etc. I would find ace).

But maybe it is just to push the DVD...

And - what cool songs are the Xpectation ones (no, I don't have them, as I am not a member of the club) - I wished I could buy them. Like the sound of it very much...

That's all folks, I'm Out

Trip.

But the design...eeek...what a mess. It's all jpg'ed blurry and the page all flush left and the history spotty.

Well, at least it has a history! That's a feature I'd love to see at the NPGMC.

Anyway, it is odd. But whatever to get his groove on. I respect that.

Well, that's what some people expected...a new deal on the shelf...close to the anniversary...he promoted TRC right and still does with the DVD...he sold the live set and put out two jazz albums in a row plus a piano...and now Ladies & Gentlemen...we gonna watch what is to be next...80's revival has to include Prince and it has to be in the charts and of course in the cinemas...worldwide...so...

I'll be waiting on new good funk...heavyly promoted and of course a world tour including Glastonbury...and other arenas if it comes out well but it'll take planning and timing...and patience to be at the right place...to enter the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of fame...puh...next year could be a Prince year if he doesn't f*** up this time...and stay in the plan...

He has to be everywhere in every country to get the full force...! No hestitation...just playing guitar with almost everybody for 1 year straight...and one or two number 1 hits...

Cool add...best in years...it takes more than 20years in one page and keeps the club...

Peace and NO WAR!

For a percentage of the revenue, Music Publishing Companies facilitate and administer licensing rights of songs for use in commercials, television shows, movies, and even covers by other artists. Prince wisely owns the publishing rights to his entire body of work, along with some other holdings, which has been a very lucrative asset for him. When Prince's publishing contract with Warner-Chappell Music expired in 2000 (the last vestige of his relationship with Warner Bros.), he start shopping for a new administrator. Universal Music Publishing, part of Universal Music Group, won the bidding war. As owner, Prince retains all control over what licensing proposals are accepted, UMP simply ensures that any such licenses are adhered to and collects the appropriate fees. Since we haven't heard any Prince classics in Nike or Microsoft commercials lately it is easy to assume that he's still fairly capricious and reticent about licensing his music.

That Prince arranged to distribute the Vegas DVD through another Universal subsidiary would seem to indicate that he is pleased with his business relationship with the company. We can only hope this may lead him to consider other mass market projects. Don't get get me wrong, I have found the new experimental material released over the last two years to be very interesting but I don't want to see him altogether abandon conventional the pop/soul artform either.

First off, Universal is definately not in merger talks with Warner Music Group.

Second, yes, Universal is helping to promote the DVD screening in theaters. NPCMC members will not be the only ones able to attend the screening, but it will not be open to walk-ups from the general public or anything like that.

Finally, Hazel is correct about what a music publisher does. Most of the major label groups have some sort of publishing division, but it is not neccessary for an artist to have a publishing deal with the same label group that they are signed to.

You can file this last statement under unconfirmed rumors, as I can't document it (since it was based on a conversation I had with someone): a few years ago one of the Universal labels did consider partnering with Prince to buy the rights to all of the WB recordings. The talks broke down, and I was told that it was partially because a) WB was asking for a significant chunk of change and b) the Universal label asked Prince to put up a lot of his own money upfront to reach the amount WB was asking for. Don't bother asking for specifics, as this is happened probably 2-3 years ago, and nothing ever came of the deal.

point taken... but you think with all the creative designers out there prince would demand better... there are probably even a few fams around the org who could slap together a jazzier site for him, probably for free.

The story about Universal merging with WB was in the press a few months ago. With music sales being in the toilet I would not be surprised if one of the five major labels merges.

I think you mean BMG and Warner. They're currently in talks to merge. Before that, BMG and EMI tried to merge. Not Universal.
