Jay-Z Working On Nabbing Prince, 50 Cent For Black Album

http://www.vh1.com/artist...ince.jhtml
"I'm trying to get a song on there with Prince, then I'm good," Hov disclosed of his plans for his next and supposedly last LP, The Black Album. "I [worked with] Michael Jackson [before], I got that one done. So for Prince to be the last one, I'mma be good."

Jay-Z says dirty words on his albums... So, I doubt Prince will participate...

I hope P doesn't make that move. it seems like jay z is just trying to boost his ego by saying he's worked with legends. Besides since P is a jehova's witness(ugh), I don't think he'll do it anyways

Er, good luck there, Jay-Z.

I'd like Prince to do it - anything new, especially in the public eye is always good - but unfortunately, I think Jay-Z sucks. I *really* don't get why he's so acclaimed.

Hmm, maybe he's already talked to Prince about it and that's why he said 'I'mma be good' - i.e., he's not gonna swear on it.

I agree...IF P follows through with this...he MAY not be a member of Jehovah Witness like we all think...

I would personally love to hear the possible tune coming out of this...music

P may also be "inspired" to take on a new musical direction...

Can we say...the return of Funk??!?!??!?!? omg

ONLY way it would be worth Prince doing something with Jay Z is IF it would be the hit off the album...other wise to us fans I dont think it would be worth it,to US HIS fans
Prince is on alot of Peoples more recent albums like NoDoubt, and Ani DiFranco, but know one would ever be the wiser sad

Prince recently did a collaboration with Common on Star 69, ended up being an instrumental snippet added to the end of the track. Hope Jay the best with this one, he is one of my favorite artist.

I can't see it really. It doesn't really fit in with the "anti-pop star" image of recent years. If he wanted to be high profile again there's better ways of doing it than hooking up with this chump. He should stick to playing with the likes of Common and The Roots.

Let's hope Gay-Z does actually retire this time.

Why is he calling it The Black Album?

Even though his lyrical content is questionable, Jay Z is

one of the kings as far as Hip-Hop is concerned. If they do

positive songs that aren't about boasting and bragging but

with a message, then it could be off-da-hook. Jay Z could

shed some light on the influence that Prince has had on the

music industry to the young Hip Hop generation. His

collaboration with the Roots on MTV Unplugged was amazing,

so bringing a real musician into his mix would be a

refreshing change. The legend of Jay Z. going into the

studio and doing his lyrics from the top of his head is

unprecedented, so if they really collaborated it would be

interesting. Lenny Kravitz produced a song off of his last

CD, and it came out cool. Hip-Hop is misunderstood by some

of us music fans, and today's generation is infactuated by

Hip-Hop music, so the more chances these collaborations

happen the better!!!

Remember, P has made it a point to work with some of the legends in the rap game . . . Chuck D, Dougie Fresh . . . no matter what you think, Jay Z is considered to be one of the best!

Here's a little history lesson for y'all. Jay-Z is actually a diehard Prince head and back when he first dropped on the scene in '96, I managed to catch a few interviews by him and damn near every interview I peeped out on him, he was speaking highly of Prince and how much of an influence P was on him. I knew from that moment on that it was eventually going to come down to him reaching out to Prince for a collaboration at some point and now the time has come. I can't trip On Jay for the fact that he's obviously a music lover as a whole and you have to have some sort of open mind to speak that candidly about Prince in the face of all of the machismo musings that take place in modern day rap and hip-hop. I really don't check for Jay-Z as far as buying his albums are concerned but I really have to admit that dude is an artist first before being a businessman and a star. In some of those inteviews back then he also name checked Bjork and a host of others you wouldn't expext an MC of his caliber to be into. Also, Tupac was a big, BIG Prince head!!! For one thing, they're both Gemini's and like Prince, Tupac was a workaholic that has cooked up an abundance of recordings (heard and unheard) that are bootlegs in the vein of how Prince's vault collection is and how it was back in 83-88 when the Prince bootleg craze was in full effect (shit, it still is!). He had that same kind of prolific work ethic as Prince and like Prince, Pac was recording songs a day; that's why we will will be hearing new material from him for the next 10 years or so. Prince is a serious influence on many cats and I really can't knock Jay-Z for reaching out to P to make some music together. Q-Tip, D'Angelo, and a host of others have been influenced by this man and hopefully this kind of collaboration may raise Generation's X awareness of how dope Prince really is and how he's key in influencing a lot of today's mainstream cats; even these Hip-Hop cats. Peace.

no no no! Jay Z is a Saggitarius if your talking about him...but yes, Tupac and Prince are both Gemini's...Pac being onthe 16th of June and Prince the 7th. mr.green
And Tupac is MAH BOY...I wouldve been much more happier if he wouldve collabo'ed w/ Prince...and like some1 mentioned b 4...it just seems as if Jay Z is trying 2 get Prince 2 say he's worked with all the legends...and that isnt a show of respect, that's just 2 inflate his terribly large ego as it is stfu

no no no!

Jay-Z is an enigma to me. Most of his popular songs bore me with the lyrical content...but when Jay-Z wants to, he can compete lyrically with the best of 'em. Not to mention he's got a sick flow and unique voice.

I hope, him and Prince don't do a remix to 03 Bonnie and Clyde...

"All I need in this life of sin, is me and my gurlfriend..."

Wouldn't it be Michael Jackson's 'BAD' all over again.

No offense to Jay-Z, but I think that's the exact type of music Prince is trying to stray away from. There used to be a thin-line between; Rap and Hip Hop. Now there's a very noticeable difference. I see Prince with a Hip Hop artist, like; Common, Mos Def, Dead Prez, Floetry...

campfire Floetry was on BET last nite(Wednesday)When asked who did they enjoy listening to, at first they said Jodici. Evidently they thought about it for a split second after they had said Jodici, then later went on and on about Prince. Brief clip of "When Doves cry" played as they came to their senses wall Love to hear the 3 of them playing something together. Hope they didn't miss out doh!

Prince has play with Me'shell B4, but not on record. Lisa

and Wendy have also recorded with Me'shell on her "Peace

Beyond Passion" album. It's cool 4 Prince 2 keep his head in

the Neo-Soul movement, but wouldn't it be cool 2 have Prince

uplift today's crossover Hip-Hop and take these

Bling-Blingers 2 another level? Bring out that old Linn

Drum, Bass-pluck funk, chicken-grease guitar and a real Horn

section 2 your radio with the help of Jay Z??? Hell, why

have someone like Beyonce sample some horns (like on "Crazy

In Love") when U can have the real thang??? That would be

saucy!! Show these young folks how it's done!

Ooooh, by the way... I'm a DJ in radio but don't tell my

bosses that I am IN LOVE with XM Satelite RADIO!!!

There is a channel called "the Flow" which plays Neo Soul

24/7. They even played "Joy in Repetion" one morning and I

almost drove my car off of the road!!! On the 4th of July

they are gonna play the One Night Alone Live CD all the way

through! When's the last time U heard Prince on your radio?

With XM, U won't have 2 think about that question. If U

want 2 enjoy all types of music under the sun and not be

caught up in the same old formatted radio... go XM!!!

I'd like to know the proof of which u all participate in claiming Prince is a Jehova Wit. ? Perhaps he studies it, but who here can tell me he is an "official" part of it. (Exclude the media in replying) Cause I'd really like to know if he is one, for sure. I would assume if he was, he would say more about it, or perhaps say he is.

In response to what Gemineye69 said about Prince incorporating some real production, artisty, and musicianship to what Jay-Z wants out of a collboration I think that is an excellent idea. I can tell that you're a DJ that's rooted in the organic stuff and to actually hear Joy in Repetition on the radio is beyond mindblowing! Cool ideas man and keep them flowing! I'm fully aware of Wendy and Lisa'a contributions to Me'shell's albums and all of those sisters are kindred spirits. I had a friend of mine come up with an idea to have Me'shell, Sheila E, and set aside differences with (as well as repent for the mistreatment of both of those gals; 'cause y'all know how he did them back in the day!) - Wendy & Lisa to be the ultimate all girl backing band that Prince so desperately wanted to have for many years. I think that something like that should go down. Even it it were a one-off project! None of them (for the exception of Me'shell) really have to answer to the powers-that-be (the major labels) for permission to do such a thing and even Me'shell can get down still seeing that she's down with Guy Oseary and Madonna and they pretty much let her do what she wants as far as working with other people are concerned. In response to any naysayers about the Jay-Z thing, I can't argue with you about your thoughts and feelings on that particular subject matter and everyone's entitled to they're opinion. I'm just stating the fact that Jay-Z has obviously got his ear tuned into some real "ish" and seeing that he's stretched out and did his thing with the Roots and Lenny Kravitz shows that a cat in his position (a platinum-plus artist that has millions of fans that are usually plugged into the "bullshit" that's on constant rotatation on "Clear Channel" radio), can stretch for the sake of making some truly dope music. Think, like if that collaboration were to go down and those particular heads who listen to the radio were to dig that collabo, then it would be easier for them to take a chance to get into some of Prince's finest moments (Madhouse, Parade, Sign of the Times, the bootlegs, outtakes, etc.,)! Jay-Z can simply go on 106 &Park or TRL and be like..."Okay, if like this, then try this - and throw some song titles out to the audiance viewers that are watching him (The Ballad of Dorothy Parker, New Position, Let's Work, DMSR,; just to name a VERY, VERY FEW!!!). You feel me? I just want the world to know Prince's genius and not just for what he's know for (Purple Rain, 1999, and whatever other top 40 stuff he's known with what "no-rhythm & soul-having-americans" who to try to sing at karaoke bars ; 'cause that's what most simple minded mofo's know him for). Those same cats that were only with him for the "moment", and not before or after like us orgers! If it takes an outlet like Jay-Z for the modern day mainstream world to recognize Prince's role in music as whole then I'm for it. As long as it ain't mofo's like Ja Rule, Trick Daddy, Ludacris, or any of these bamboozled/typecast and "overall embarassment to black folks as a whole" kinda mofo's (okay, now I'm hatin'), then I'm for Jay-Z exposing 2003's youth generation to Prince, 'cause they need to know what's up! Peace.
