Prince - Live At The Aladdin Las Vegas indeed scheduled for 08/19

Howdy -

Just wanted to confirm that, yes, the Live At The Aladdin DVD is tentatively scheduled for an 08/19 release in the US. It will be on Hip-O Records, which is a house label for the catalog division of the Universal Music Group, the world's largest record company. I have no idea if the DVD will be on Universal in other territories. And, as always, the release date is subject to change.

The only thing that is a priority to Prince is money. He's had your $25 for the subscription and the $ for your massive orders of N.E.W.S. (plenty of people ordering multiple CDs hoping to sell them on eBay and the likes), so now he turns his attention to the other deals.

Isn't it funny how the NPGMC failed to mention when the pre-ordering process started that N.E.W.S. was gonna get a general distribution deal soon after the "club-only" release (and don't pretend that this deal suddenly came through in mere days)?

And I've so far not heard of anyone who has managed to cancel his N.E.W.S. order via NPGMC.

actually I cancelled mine yesterday as, with the international shipping, its cheaper in stores or on amazon.

why should I pay a premium to order it from the club with 2-4 weeks shipping ? If I'd have known it was being released in stores just after being "club-only" then I woudn't have ordered from MusicToday in the first place.

...and what's with the "bright boy" comment ? there's no need to get personal about this is there ?

BS. There's not a single piece of evidence that he'll do that. ALL the evidence of previous instances point to NPGMC offering exactly the same thing as released items.

Im not talking about NPGMC items Vs. Retail items, Bart.

Im sure the DVD offered to members, and the ones sold in stores are EXACTLY the same. Im talking about the disc features (not weather or not members get "extras" for being members)

No kidding. I swear that Bart & Huggy lurk just to post a negative comment about EVERY news item. It's like I asked in an earlier thread - if Prince pisses you off so much, why on Earth would you spend your time here? Surely the both of you have other important things in your life to devote your time and energy towards. Don't worry about the rest of us - we can fend for ourselves without your inventing reasons why Prince releasing a DVD through traditional retail is somehow screwing over the fans.

To answer someone else's question, at the moment there's no VHS release and I wouldn't expect one.

Well, whatever. I'll eat my motherfucking words on toast if the concert is anything but an edited concert with very few (if any) extras. Remember the fabulous "extras" on the Rave disc? Heh.

- Better this way. I never liked the idea of a ´club´. What happened to the ´free the music´ speech from 94? I think the club is a great idea for selling some rare stuff like rehearsals, preferred seats at concerts, etc. But the regular albums should be released everywhere.

Prince's relationship with Universal is apparent. Look at the credits for the Rainbow Children. Controversy Music is administered by a unit of Universal Music. Universal Music likely has a distribiution deal with Paisley Park Enterprises. Prince thus retains all rights to his Masters. It is only natural for them to release the DVD to the commercial market.
