One Nite Alone Live Liked By One Critic Alone

Prince, who dominated the Village Voice Pazz & Jop Critics Poll 15 years ago with Sign O The Times, gets a top ten mention from only one critic taking part in this year's poll for music released in 2002. Jon Bream picked One Nite Alone Live as one of his ten favorites, giving it 7 points. Based on the point system used to rank the most popular albums, ONA Live comes in at #1546.

And this is after Prince has gone out of his way to diss Jon in the past shake Prince should be ashamed lol

Burning his review on stage, etc. etc.

I don't think hardly any critics had a chance to hear ONA Live by the voting deadline, so it's no surprise, actually...hell, ONA Live still isn't in any of the local record stores around here...

I dont think hardly any critics heard the album or even knew about it...I think the piano album should be sent out to all the top critics. Not just the live stuff,,I think the solo piano CD is tighter and more unique and if the critics heard it on its own Im sure they would be impressed.

With a live album there is so much to live up to with expectations of what u think Prince should do Im not sure most people, critics especially could get beyond the lack of "choice" (re:popular) Prince cuts.

ARJUN: funk-indie-rock-jazz-groove trio just released their debut album entitled, "Pieces"
It's an instrumental outing with heavy grooves and improvisation.

Follow-up on the Village Voice critics poll website: you can type in Prince (or any other artist, song or album title for that matter) in the search box to see how he fared not just this year but in previous years as well. I was curious to see what critics thought of MY favorites of 2002, my #1. The Colored Section by Donnie finished #78 in the poll, my #2. Electric Circus by Common finished #34 and my #3. Cookie by MeShell N'degeocello finished #65. I put ONA Live at #7.

Hate to say, it but I have to agree. It's not bad. It's great to finally have Prince officially release a concert CD. But compared to the many "unofficial" live shows out there (including of ONA); it wasn't as great as it could have been.

Of course if one's never heard any of those other live offerings..ONA is GREAT smile

I feel that Prince did an outstanding job on the One Night Alone CD especially on Adore. He never did that song live and he did that song very well!
