NPGen2002

"Although organisers have not confirmed acts.."

You can pretty much stop reading after that sentence. Promoters always drop these big names in order to get publicity, but don't always deliver. Why would Prince play on the other side of the world when he can play to HIS PEEPS on his home turf?? I'd chalk this one up to BIG TIME RUMOUR...

NPGen2000 - that may be the case for festivals in the US and a majority of European festivals too - but Glastonbury is different. There is so much myth and legend surrounding the festival (both modern and historic - Glastonbury is a place of significant importance in Ancient HIstory and Arthurian legend) that it has its own publicity and sells out EVERY YEAR WITHOUT publishing who is playing.

The aim of this is to get people to come who are there, principally, for the spirit of the event - not just becuase, let's say, they just want to see Prince!!

I would be interested to know where this rumour of Prince playing did start, though. See, as mentioned above, the promoters don't confirm the acts until the tickets are sold out. The only reason you normally get to hear who should be playing is through the bands themselves.

REM have confirmed on their website that they are playing, as have Radiohead - it has nothing to do with the promoters. If you go to the official Glastonbury Festival site, for 2003 it just says "No Information at Present" - haha, yeah, really trying to generate publicity!! The only info available, is at efestivals.co.uk, but this is an independant organisation.

So, who started the rumour that Prince was playing? It may be that it was just picked up from a Michael Eavis interview that he WANTED Prince to play - that was all I heard. Thing is, Eavis usually gets who he wants, so who knows?

Pretty obvious NPGen2000 is one of these Yanks who thinks that anywhere outside the good old U S of A doesn't actually exist...or maybe he is just jealous that we have a festival that doesnt revolve around corporate bullshit orwe do have places in the UK that are of some historical significance.

Just because Prince might play in London on June 29th doesn't mean there won't be a celebration.

There might not be for other reasons. We just have to wait and see.

check out vurtual-festivals.com, it says Prince is 'scheduled' to play on the Sunday Evening at Glastonbury... remember the Bowie thing? that started of as a rumour and that happened.
Prince will educate the masses!!
As for the celebration if the rumoured dates are correct that gives him six days to chill and get a plane over here.
So why wouldnt he do both??

LOL... Cool, never thought of myself as a "Yank", but as a Prince fan that has learned over the years to NEVER BELEIVE IT UNTIL YOU SEE IT. I was eating dinner across the street from the Los Angeles Forum before a Prince Concert when our waitress told us it was cancelled. We all know Prince is very unstable, and the fact the festival is "around" the same time as the alledged Celebration I would put my money on the Celebration.

On the other hand I don't mind playing the Yank roll and be selfish about seeing him again, even though I've seen him perform about 15 time in the last two years! LOL

Not really. It's been in a German newspaper back in 1999, so it's from that time.

Do you all really think that thier will be a 2003 celebration? Well, I really don't think so. Have you noticed we haven't been able to register for the club.
You can only buy merchandise on the NPG website. Do you ever think the club will continue like it use to?

4 Eniaro...
On the ONA tour he pushed the NPGMC to the non memberz. I know he changes his mind like the wind but the club is just a perfect way for prince to operate.
I have faith! i think the music club will relaunch as soon as he has made his mind up on date's and events.

dont be disheartened! hug

Would make sense. The Astoria is the Mean Fiddler group's flagship venue & they are now involved in the running of Glastonbury. If they lured Prince over, they'd want to stick him on in one of their venues. hmm

However, I reckon all this is just what's being proposed, I doubt there's been any official green light yet. donut

I think this year there will be a full line-up announcement for Glastonbury when the tickets go on sale, which is gonna be April 1st. I'm off regardless of who plays - it's the greatest, wildest weekend you can have. I've been six times and it kicks the crap out of all the other festivals I've been to (Reading, Phoenix, Homelands, Leeds).

Glastonbury is:- absolut blunt nod ufo party music burger beer beer nuts yes

I think that sums it up

He'd be a fool not to play lol
