IT WAS A DREADFUL INTERVIEW.

The hosts could've posed so many follow-up questions to Cat, but instead allowed her to ramble on and repeat statements over and over... Mr. Dean made several attempts at pronouncing Fargnoli's name correctly, but still couldn't, despite Cat's help. And he didn't even know who Susannah Melvoin is! A complete disaster.

...

they really do struggle to be coherent across many of their interviews BUT overall do get some truly great interviews & INFO...Michale Blands recent ones were excellent.

RE Cat - listened to bits...DAYUM P was harsh on MJ. Check out the story from the bad tour...a really shitty thing for P to do whilst MJ was on stage.

Well worth a listen.

I'm a bit confused about why sometimes Michael asks a lot of great questions and why some other interviews fail to feature relevant questions. Typically the Eric Leeds interview was awesome, while the Levi interview was totally void of relevant informations. Not sure how these interviews are prepared, maybe not always as well as they should be, but I'm still very glad they exist and I'll keep listening.

I am listening now, and Cat seems nice. I am looking forward to the rest of it. She says David Bowie asked her to dance in a video of his the same weekend Prince wanted her to. I wonder if it was, “Let’s Dance.”

Yes agreed. He seems to fluctuate between very informative/structured interviews to those that are somewhat scattered and basic . He was clearly having a hard time keeping the questions going due to Cat's rambling after each of her responses. I was also very surprised that he and his crew had not heard that the song "Bob George" was a dig toward journalist Nelson George, as that is old news. I had actually read that the song was a dig at both Bob Cavallo and Nelson George. Makes sense. The fact that Michael could not pronounce Steve Fargnoli's name was surprising as well. His name's been around for a loooong time.

*

Regarding Cat's story, she actually gave more detailed and structured answers for her interview on the Beautiful Nights site. There is also an older thread here detailing what happened with Prince and the Xstacy drug that Tuesday, Dec 1st at PP - much more info there than what was discussed during this interview. Michael should have asked specific questions about it. Cat even alluded to the fact that if she's asked she's going to give an honest answer.

*

I guess for a longtime Prince fan a lot of this information is already known - how Cat met Prince, the peach dress that was originally for Susannah, the Prince and David Bowie convo, the Madonna debacle, etc. Would be a good listen for a newer Prince fan though.

*

It's also been known that Prince and MJ had a friendly rivalry - although it seems, based on Cat's story about Prince reflecting the light into MJ's eyes while he was on stage, that Prince was more competitive about it...no surprise there! But Michael Bland talked about how Prince would call in his associates to watch vintage Jackson 5 shows at PP, and Prince also honored MJ after his death by performing Don't Stop.." at his shows. So, despite any surface antics deep down he did care.

*

Cat was also a bit "off" with some of her information. She stated that Prince fired The Revolution while they were in Europe, telling them he wanted a funkier band. Not the actual story, as Lisa and Wendy have discussed it in detail (with Questlove). She also blasted Sinead for waiting until after Prince's death to tell her "my fight with Prince" story, however, Sinead first told a less detailed version of that story in the early 90's. Not saying all of it is true, but she did mention it a long time ago.

*

Some interesting tidbits for me - Cat telling the story of going to Prince's house and Susannah was there with him. Prince let her take his vintage car (from UTCM) and she went to pick up Ingrid. This would have been during the LoveSexy period (1988), which supports Susannah stating that she continued to spend time with Prince for a few years after she left MN in '86. Cat states she really liked Susannah, which was nice. Also, when asked about Prince and Sheila being engaged Cat emphatically stated that Prince did not propose to Sheila and they were never engaged eek WOW!!! She went on and on about that one!! Hmmmm....very interesting hmmm

So, not my favorite disussion, but still some interesting tidbits biggrin

I believe Bowie wanted Cat to do his Glass Spider tour at the same time that Prince had asked her to join his band. Cat went with Prince, and had a friend of hers audition for Bowie and she got the gig.

What an exciting time for two young dancers. No doubt some of their best memories smile

I would have liked to have heard a little about when Cat danced at Glam Slam LA in the mid 90s and whether she really did go up to him and Mayte and say they didn't dance together as well as he did with Cat.

I remember reading that somewhere, and I think Prince told that story in an interview. Cat’s right though. Other than a short period in ‘93, Prince didn’t even dance “with” Mayte on stage. She was just eye candy moving around behind him in underwear and boots. Prince and Cat had fully choreographed moves for both the SOTT and LoveSexy tours.

Yes I do wonder why Prince rarely danced with Mayte on stage. I think it’s because she was supporting him by dancing while he sang and played. But still... maybe they had different styles.

He did dance and interact with her more during his shows in ‘92/‘93, and then the conflict with WB started, and he went through a sort of “angry” phase where he mainly just stood and played his guitar while singing - no theatrics on stage or dancing. Comparing him on stage in ‘84-“86 with “94-“96 is like night and day.

I thought it was his Davids tour at the same time Prince wanted her to join for the SOTT tour

David Bowie's Glass Spider Tour... It's a funny thing: Prince asked me to join his band on a Friday and David Bowie asked me (to join his tour) on a Saturday -- the same weekend. I said "Oh my God, when it rains, it pours." I love Bowie, because, I grew up in the "neo" days, the punk days and that was the music I danced to. I had a dilemma.
