Morris Day - The Character Been a while since I had heard this - surprisingly introspective track coming from Morris.
A certain kind of mellow.

Very nice baseline and keys. If I know the way Morris sings a prince song, Orince sang it very similarly, the breathiness etc.

I love me some Morris, but this song sounds dated.

Are you confused as to when this song was released or are you just trolling?

Because it was the 80s.
It really sound ridiculous when people judge the past music under a present day microscope. At the time of its inception, it sounded current.
@I said... - Of course it sounds "dated". It is no longer 1985.

My favorite by Morris!. It's still on my Chocolate Box Playlist when I work out in the gym it sounds so good on my gold Beatsbydre headphones. "That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

I understand where you coming from on this particular song. The song was the 3rd single from his debut album. In 1985 it was cool but now it sounds lazy. It's simply a case of a song that didn't age well. It happens with certain songs. In contrast you listen to Oak Tree and it still sounds great today. I was listening to Spotify the other day and Yo Love came on from the Daydreaming album and I wasn't feeling it but I still dig Fishnet.
Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I love The Character. And always have. I don't think it sounds dated, i just think(in hindsight) it doesn't really go anywhere. Probably the best part is the ending with the drums(especially), that synthesizer bit, and that "scared of love" part(what is that, a hook, or what?). Those always were the highlights to me. Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.
