I think Mayte, because her parents had a back & forth relationship, wasn't as concerned with his infidelity at first. I also believe she was aware he was sleeping with other women as she has stated as much.

I think there were periods where he was faithful (a few months maybe) with several women. By the time they met, he seems to have had a sort of formula for seducing young women over a period of time. Imho, it was to check them out plus he obviously enjoyed delayed gratification with some of them.

His first love was always music.

The seducing of young women began way back in 1980 with Susan Moonsie - she was 16 and he was 22. Seems he always had that down :)

Yes, of course Mayte would not have been concerned with any other women when she first arrived, as she was just 17-18 and not intimately involved with Prince - although I have no doubt that was part of Prince’s agenda. He was with many women even after they began an intimate relationship. One would hope that he was monogamous for at least the months before and after the wedding, but who really knows for sure except Prince.
*
Susannah confirmed that she knew when he was cheating even though he would deny it. I think he was just too self-serving in relationships to be monogamous. It was always a double standard - he can cheat (and deny it) but she can’t. As Susannah stated, “it was always HIS way” in the relationship. That dynamic is not sustainable.

I think he was afraid that if he didn’t have another girlfriend or someone else in the mix, he could end up alone.
It’s not an excuse, just a reason.

Sheila said they had not spoken since an argument theybahd about a year before his passing. Susannah said he told her shortly before his passing he wanted to work with her. He told Jill that too at Denise’s funeral.

Actually the argument Sheila had with him was about five years before Prince(r.i.p.) transitioned. He contacted her a couple of years before April 21,2016 to ask Sheila for a drum set he wanted for the museum he was turning PP into.

Jill suggested they get together soon after Denise's funeral not Prince(r.i.p.).

I think Sheila said in one of her first interviews after April 21, 2016 that she and Prince hadn’t spoken for (it was either): a year or several years. A few years later she told us they had an argument about a year prior to his passing and that she felt he was pushing her away. It definitely wasn’t 5 years prior.

Jill just told us about a month ago in an interview that Prince said during the Banity funeral time that he wanted to work with her again.

It’s possible, but I think it was more self-serving than that. I think his libido was his priority, especially in his younger years, which is common with many male celebrities - especially musicians. He wanted to have his cake and eat it too.

Though it does seem, based on Susan Rogers story about recording the song Wally with Prince, that he knew he had major issues in relationships with women (oh my melody, oh my malady), so your theory could be at least partly accurate.

Actually, what I heard Jill say - during her interview on Prince Podcast - was that she and Susan were talking about their kids and showing Prince pictures. Jill told him her daughter was a singer, and then one of the others - possibly Brenda or Apollonia - told Prince she’s a good singer. Prince told Jill he would listen to her recordings and see if he could help her. He was not talking about working with Jill again - it was her daughter that he was going to try to help with her career.

Prince told us himself many moons ago that he was abstinent in all areas except the sex one.
And all the girls and women knew what they were getting involved in. I’m so tired of people who blame the other person when they knew exactly what they saw.

I agree. I think they always had more of a brother-sister or best friend relationship.

Sheila and Prince did have a falling out around 2011-2012 during his Welcome To tours. She had been playing on some of the shows, and then abruptly left the tour. She tweeted a cryptic message about canceling the rest of her scheduled shows - something like “why did Prince?...” So, it seems he was up to his quirky or “Princely” behavior again during that time biggrin

Yes, her daughter’s style is completely different than Prince’s. Prince was fully back into his funk/R&B sound (mixed with some rock w/ 3EG), and I think her daughter was/is a different genre. I could be wrong about that, but I think that was the case.

Also, I know I saw a video interview with Sheila a while back, probably 2016, where she said the last time they talked was “about a year ago”, and they talked about her charity.
Other Orgers will remember the interview and those words of hers if they were paying attention in the first few years after Prince’s passing.

I saw this in at least two different interviews and she gave that same answer both times.

Like I said before everyone butted in rolleyes Prince(r.i.p.) called her THREE YEARS PRIOR to his transitioning to get her drum kit for his plans on turning PP into a museum. The argument happened FIVE YEARS before he transitioned around 2011 when Sheila announced that she would NO LONGER be working with him again. The reason why I know exactly because I was going to ask her about it myself on September 21, 2011 when I attended a concert with her and her family. But my friend stopped me. I did hear the interview when she said "she felt he was pushing her away". But she DID NOT say the argument happened a year prior. The problem is Sheila hasn't been totally forthright about it. Maybe it's too painful for her. She should put it in her new book and clear it up once and for all

I'm not going to continue going back & forth about this with U or anyone. U can believe what U want. I know I'm right.

SMH. The human demand to be “right”. SIGH...
That, and trying to appear to be “somebody”. Talk about self-serving. It’s so arrogant.

You were WRONG that Sheila was the last one Prince wanted to work with. There were MANY. Forget Jill.
And it was in prior interviews that Sheila said she saw him last “about a year ago”.
Now I’m really going to puncture your ego, because it is obvious by now that you are a huge Sheila “stan”:
YES. I wasn’t going to say anything about this, but Sheila is not always 100% honest. Like when she told Larry King that Prince gave her an engagement ring but she “let all that go.”
Yes, she has been grieving heavily, but I feel she “exaggerates” sometimes so that she will be taken seriously as a spokes person about Prince. She doesn’t need to do that. We will still see her as important and love her.
And I do see her as the First Lady Of Paisley Park.

Agreed!! I think Sheila and Prince had a great musical, competitive and collaborative relationship, but I do not think it was a love affair. She was like a Sister to him. If you listen to Sister Fate the lyrics describe the situation.

And yes, Jill did NOT state that Prince asked her to work with him in 2016.

That’s what people do when they must “win”. They dig deeper. Get nastier.
Cuz it’s not about Sheila at all. It’s about ChocolateBox.

I respect your beliefs. I don't respect hypocrisy which seems to be what occurred with Mayte (etal).

I think you are on point here. His actions left them no choice but to file. In Manuela’s case Prince’s statement to the media was actually that he did not want the divorce, so he came across as more the “victim” in the marriage. Clever strategy confused

I don’t think he used her. I think it is pretty clear by now, or should be to everybody, that it’s the other way around. There was something she wanted from him, and still uses that. It is so blatantly obvious it is staring us all right in the face. I am always shocked at how few people can see this.

Maybe he used her too. I don’t know. That would last us about. Or not being with someone who is your equal. He may have not meant for it to happen, but couldn’t help it at the time. He changed a lot later on.

Yeah, they probably both used each other. Another reason I think he had her around was because he was lonely.

Yes, maybe so but I really feel he tried to make the marriage work for awhile. Idk, maybe? Or at least I'd like to think so.

I think so too. Didn’t Mayte say in her book that he wrote a song and she knew when she heard it he was “trying to come back to her”?

I think what happened was so traumatizing that he acted oddly. Sometimes it takes people years to get back their full sanity from a situation like that and even realize what the heck happened. I think that’s exactly where he was after his divorce from Amani. Like, “Wait. Let me assess all of what went on here.” (with Mayte. Dr Funkenberry said at that point there was hope for a reconciliation between M1 & P but neither of them “could put their egos aside.”

Nah, I just don’t think that is the case. Prince had two full years after the death of the baby to deal with grief and emotions. I think he was just done with with the marriage - probably due to both his transition to JW and the love was not there for him. He recorded Strange But True in early 1999 - one year before they divorced - which is very telling with regard to what was happening at that time.
H M Buff, his Engineer at the time, said he fought to get that on the RU2TJF album. He said Prince initially didn’t want to include it, because it was so personal. The lyrics are quite blatant:
*
“Okay, let me say this quick - before I start to cry
You are the only one that I gave it to, the one I fantasize for
And time away from you has taught me
What I should have known
That this hole I'm trying to fill with another yeah, it's grown
And I got your package
But when I tried to write back I bailed
See, trying to express the future, sometimes language fails
And over this time I've learned
My life force is increased by knowing you
Every door that closes, another one opens

Strange but true”
*
He was singing about an ex love - someone he was with before Mayte. But I do agree that the relationship with Manuela may have begun as a diversion for him and then progressed when she went all in with converting to JW.

So true. Don't understand why some people he cut out of his life seemingly for good, get all the praise and love where the folks he was still close with throughout his life and up until the end get the most hate. smh

Mmmhhhmm. Those PR machines in overdrive. Got no shame. Smh

I want to pick up off this from the other day. I remember once a poster he is saying that prints prepared some of these young women for a mate. That he was not going to be the one to stay. He couldn’t.
I was just listening to Andy’s song “Don’t Ever Say.” It seems she is saying in that song that he left. I believe he did, and this is what she meant by, he also taught her about heartbreak.
When you mentor someone in this intimate way, you are going to show them everything about love. The breakup hurts, but it is an actual part of it.
Prince remained supportive of her music. He remained a friend.
I still believe that it would not be unless he was with somebody who is equally yoked to him in spiritual maturity and life experience, who also had the other things he was looking for, that he would’ve settle down again. This is why in the RS interview he said he didn’t know if he would.

He shouldn't have used her, I always felt it was wrong. It's the principle.

You think Prince used Andy? I think he mentored many females & most of the time, the "using" was mutual.
The kind of love that takes over your body, mind, & soul

I agree that whatever went on between Prince and his proteges was a mutual thing.

I agree. He didn't use her. He saw talent there, and wanted to help her. She knew who Prince was and how he could help her become more widely known - and he did just that. She was also old enough to understand their age difference and how much more experienced he was when she met him. I would imagine she may have also known about his reputation with younger women. So, it's more a "protege beware" situation.

Yes, and Jill said she disagreed with the direction Prince suggested

Yes, her daughter’s style is completely different than Prince’s. Prince was fully back into his funk/R&B sound (mixed with some rock w/ 3EG), and I think her daughter was/is a different genre. I could be wrong about that, but I think that was the case.

Well it was about musical style. Prince always was into a mix of genre especially in the 2000s.
With 3rd Eye Girl, the direction was to more into rock.
The direction Jill disagreed about was the daughter signing with a label etc

Jill felt it was easy for Prince to say that in his position, but it would be harder for her daughter.

Ah okay. Yes, Prince was against any new artist signing with a label. Yes, Prince mixed some genres, but I always here a funk base with his music. He always had that in his mixes. I think he stated, at some point later in his life, that musicians should always stay on "their block" - meaning they should not veer too far away from their musical roots, and his roots were definitely the funk/R&B genre. You might be able to come up with when/where he said that - I can't pinppoint the specific interview.
