I don't know what Prince would do but I get it's been a thing since the beginning of people time but it's normally such a personal gesture to give a piece of onesself that selling it to the general public comes off like selling hot links on the corner for a quick buck. I'm still teetering on this but if true there just had to be a better way of going about it especially with all this stuff on RKelly and MJ right now, there was absolutely no tact.

I found his post on a Prince FB group. I was kind of surprised as the FB Prince groups I am a member of (but rarely visit as I’m off FB now) hardly ever call out associates for anything. [Edited 1/29/19 3:33am]

I don't agree with Kim attempting to auction Prince's hair, but I think her use of the photo is less cut-and-dried. I wonder if she had indeed requested permission to reproduce the photo of her and Prince, would Parke have agreed. After all, it IS her image and it is probably included in his book, from which he is profiting. Although the law probably does not require it, I'm also wondering if she has been compensated for the use of her likeness in his book.

Right his issue is that she was only given permission to use the photo for her book. Not to sell or print out and give away at events. I don’t know a lot about photography... a professional photographer doing a photo shoot...who owns the photo, the photographer or the person he/she photographed? Can the photographer do as they wish with the photos or do they need to get approval from the subject of the photos?

I don't know for sure, but my guess is that, because he was hired by Prince to take those photgraphs, they would be considered his professional work and art. I don't believe Kim, as one of the subjects in his photo, would have any rights to use it for monetary gain without his permission.

I'm no lawyer, but I think ownership of the photos all comes down to the terms of the agreement with Prince. That's why some of his photographers are publishing books and others are not. I still don't see how Kim's reproduction of one photo from his book hurts him in any way. If I were advising Kim, I would suggest that she reach out to Steve Parke and work out an agreement, even if she has to compensate him for her use of the photo.

Sorry, but I disagree. I think he knew full well that all of these pictures and stories would become public knowledge after he passed, and I have no doubt he didn't care. He was far from naive about that.

He wanted to maintain the "fantasy" and mystique of his image while he was here, and he worked very hard to do that. He didn't care what would happen after he left this world.
