Yeah, but after death would be weird. Unless a person knew him personally. I was always a bit leery of Kim. She kept him in the same hair style for almost 10yrs.

I don't know what Prince would do but I get it's been a thing since the beginning of people time but it's normally such a personal gesture to give a piece of onesself that selling it to the general public comes off like selling hot links on the corner for a quick buck. I'm still teetering on this but if true there just had to be a better way of going about it especially with all this stuff on RKelly and MJ right now, there was absolutely no tact.

That's nothing, evidently the Prince Photog, Steve Parke is having his own problems with her....Look up his FB Page. Wow and the people trying to defend this "the Pictures weren't sold" (they were) but that doesn't Matter because even if the fans got them for free, Kim didn't have the permission to do that. |

I found his post on a Prince FB group. I was kind of surprised as the FB Prince groups I am a member of (but rarely visit as I’m off FB now) hardly ever call out associates for anything.

I don't agree with Kim attempting to auction Prince's hair, but I think her use of the photo is less cut-and-dried. I wonder if she had indeed requested permission to reproduce the photo of her and Prince, would Parke have agreed. After all, it IS her image and it is probably included in his book, from which he is profiting. Although the law probably does not require it, I'm also wondering if she has been compensated for the use of her likeness in his book. |

I would imagine he would have had to have received her permission to use her likeness in his book. Same with Mayte, as there are a couple of her in the book as well.

However, she is definitely not permitted to reproduce and use his photograph for profit. Pretty sure that's a big "no-no" in the world of copyright infringement.... |

That might be true with regard to the law; however, why not just allow her to use the photo for profit? It is unlikely to hurt his book sales. He could even require that the photo include his photo credit and that it reference his book, which could even have the effect of selling more books. Whatever, the case, I hope they can work this out. I don't think Prince would want PRN Alumni to be at-war like this. |

I think he did state the "why" on his FB post though. She didn't ask his permission, or discuss it with him at all, and when her management was questioned about it, they stated they would not be using his photograph. Then he sees pictures posted of her signing his photographs. Not cool... |

Someone on a Prince FB group claims they overheard Kim at a Prince event last year saying she wished purple fam would quit tagging her (on social media) because she’s not friends with them and she couldn’t care less about them. Of course it was her choice to join these groups which she did so she could promote her book and other events plus cheesy cruises. Paisley Park is in your heart

So Kim responded this morning claiming it was a “gross misunderstanding”, that she would never do anything to tarnish Prince’s legacy blan blah blah and apologizing to anyone who was offended by this “gross misunderstanding”. So apparently both the auction and the use of the photo were “gross misunderstandings”. I’m sorry but that’s very hard to believe.
I also see Steve deleted his original post. He said he stands by everything he said but removed it because the person he was talking about started receiving threats of violence. My god what is wrong with people?! I’m not a fan of some of the things Kim has done but I certainly would never wish violence on her. Paisley Park is in your heart

Let's make 1 thing clear. There was no misunderstanding about her giving that hair, comb and doo rag to the auction house. They would've never have known about it, if she didn't give them it to sell.
This was on her social media about the uproar over Steve Parkes. I don't believe her statement either.

I don't know for sure, but my guess is that, because he was hired by Prince to take those photgraphs, they would be considered his professional work and art. I don't believe Kim, as one of the subjects in his photo, would have any rights to use it for monetary gain without his permission. |

I'm no lawyer, but I think ownership of the photos all comes down to the terms of the agreement with Prince. That's why some of his photographers are publishing books and others are not. I still don't see how Kim's reproduction of one photo from his book hurts him in any way. If I were advising Kim, I would suggest that she reach out to Steve Parke and work out an agreement, even if she has to compensate him for her use of the photo. |

Sorry, but I disagree. I think he knew full well that all of these pictures and stories would become public knowledge after he passed, and I have no doubt he didn't care. He was far from naive about that.

He wanted to maintain the "fantasy" and mystique of his image while he was here, and he worked very hard to do that. He didn't care what would happen after he left this world. [Edited 1/29/19 8:18am] |
