My Ex also left me, and I had plenty to say to my friends and family. BUT, he is not a well known musician, and I was not publicly bashing him on a television show, Facebook, or Twitter. Very big difference. I'm sure you were not posting deragtory comments about him on FB and Twitter.

Now I should ask you a similar question....are you really Mayte?? Or maybe her Sister? * Come on!!! What WOULD Mayte say about the name change...other than "okay, sure ____ (blank space there because she never called him by his name )whatever you want to do!!" She was a 20yr old girl employed by the guy who just told her he's going to change his name. * Really, it would have been to his benefit if she HAD spoken out and questioned the choice, because that decision cost him many years of turmoil.

Susannah was married for 13 years and had two kids. I woudl say that's quite stable in this day and age, and pretty good considering most regular marriages don't last that long. Manuela is still married and has two kids. Much tougher to keep a marriage together when you're in the spotlight on some level. Probably why their marriages worked. Neither of those folks, to include respective spouses, were/are not in the spotlight. To clarify, mainstream spotlight. I do feel for Susannah with regard to her marriage breakup. All that messiness about child support....ex won't pay any (he apparently didn't have the means) nor will Renee Zellweger help because her money is not his (agree). Had to be hard to have all that financial business blasted in the press. Actually, Susannah and her husband were in the spotlight. Doyle and Susannah were both performing live and doing TV appearances for Smokestack. Doyle was performing with Eric Clapton, and both Doyle and Susannah were performing with Roger Waters on the In The Flesh tour. Susannah was also in Seal's band in the mid 90's. She toured with him, was in his video for Newborn Friend, and she and Wendy also peformed on the Grammys with him in 1995. Really great performance. Obviously, they weren't as prominent as Prince was, but they were still performing.

Well, she could have laughed her ass off and said don't be such a goof! However, she would never do that. I think she and Prince had a lot of the same feelings regarding spiritual and religious feelings, ideals, whatever one names it. How the Universe is giving if one believes it, Chakras and how important it is they stay aligned and open, etc. I truly think they were of one mind when it came to that. EDIT: forgot to add....no, not Mayte, nor am I related. I only wish I had some of her family genes. Yep, she could've laughed her ass off...and laughed herself right out of a job It's well known that by that time Prince removed anyone and everyone who didn't agree with him or his deicsions. He surrounded himself with only "yes" men and women. * Not sure about your take on their having the same religious feelings and ideals. Wasn't that rumored to be one of the big reasons she got the boot? Wasn't she supposed to be the "banished one" in his song The Rainbow Children? * C'mon, ya gotta be more realistic about the relationship. Even Mayte stated she couldn't initiate a phone call to him. She had to wait for him to call her - even during the marriage. Not sure how "connected" that is in a relationship. If you're gonna be soulmates ya gotta be able to call the dude when ya want to !!

You did correct me on Spain being Puerto Rico so I have a sneaky suspicion. Anyhoo, yes, she did phone him. During the marriage she absolutely did. And yes, they had the same thoughts as I noted. Unfortunately, Prince's blind devotion to the JW faith was one of the mitigating factors in their breakup. She tried to bring him back around to their previous shared "religion" but he was having none of that. I am realistic. I can only base my opinions on what Prince and Mayte have revealed themselves. Is there a reason I shouldn't? Aren't you basing opinions on what Susannah has claimed? Doyle had two albums - one in the mid 90's called Jellycream, which got great reviews by the critics, and Eric Clapton said it was his favorite album at that time. He contacted Doyle and they ended up working together and writing songs together, and they both played on BB Kings last album. Doyle's second album - in 2000, was called Smokestack - another one with good reviews. They performed with Wendy and Lisa on the Craig Kilborn show, and they had a video out as well. * Okay, so Roger Waters is an original member of Pink Floyd -you know - The Wall? Comfortably Numb? . He has been doing his own tours with some of the original members of the band, and he asked Doyle to play Dave Gilmore's part - the other major member of the original Pink Floyd. To have both Eric Clapton and Roger Waters ask you to play major roles in their tours is a VERY BIG DEAL. Look it up. This was the early 2000's. * Just for the heck of it - if you have some extra time - check out these two videos: * Doyle performing Comfortably Numb with Roger Waters. Susannah is one of the 3 female backup singers - she is on the far right. The audio is not the greatest on the video but it's a great performance: * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkM_pEFViXo * Here is the released video of Smokestack doing Green Light Girl. Doyle and Susannah and the band. Susannah is very pregnant in the video. She also co-wrote the song. Great song and cool video: * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZYppH82U4U

Also, in 2005/2006 Doyle was prominently featured in the music documentary Before The Music Dies - along with Erykah Badu, Questlove, and Dave Matthews. It's a fantastic docu about how the music business has changed and how most popular music is just "manufactured" by a computer in a studio. Suannah is in the film shown performing on stage with him, Wendy and Eric Clapton. I highly recommend watching it if you haven't seen it. * During that time they (Questlove, Jazzy Jeff, Erykah, Wendy, Lisa, Doyle, Susannah and crew) formed a band called Edith Funker. They performed at the Film release party. Here's a video of one of them doing Erika's song Annie Ain't Got No Panties: * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJWRlA-Sl4s

Nah, haven't read her book. However, the story of how he flew down to PR was in an article I had read. Mayte is on record stating that during her relationship with Prince and even during the marriage she could not call himi - page him yes, I'm sure, but not contact him by telephone. Interestingly, in the video Betcha By Golly Wow, where he profiles the baby news, it starts with him at a gas station getting a message on his pager saying "call your wife" So, it would seem he was portraying that honestly.

Right, of course his family would know, but probably not the other random FB friends he has. Don't we all have an extra 200 or more FB "friends" that we never physically see or talk to?? You know, all of those highscholl and college friends that you kind of knew but know you'll never actually see again

Here's the excerpt about Mayte not being permitted to call Prince during their entiire relationship, and a link to her interview with The Irish Times in 2017 to promote her book.... * "When she was 17, he flew her to Paisley Park to sing on a record. They ate pancakes and drove around listening to Diamonds and Pearls. At 18, he rented her an apartment nearby. She hung around waiting for his call. For their whole relationship, she was not allowed to call him, only he could call her. She was told she would dance on the Diamond and Pearls tour." * Link to the full article: * https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/music/living-with-prince-i-think-it-s-time-you-got-birth-control-1.3035015

You're welcome! I just think he shut off access in every way - band members, managers, girlfriends, etc. by the early 90's. The wall was even bigger

In case anyone's interested....Here's the video of Doyle, Susannah, Wendy and Lisa on the Craig Kilborn show in 2000: * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS_ozcMUTqc
* And one of them performing Shape I'm In at Austin City Limits 1999-2000: * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbEQRotjV_w
* They are all fantastic musicians/singers - just not the mainstream manufactured "pop" that seems to be the only thing radio stations play today - Prince constantly talked about this too. It's what the Before The Music Dies docu was all about. It's a shame.

Yes, I don't think it was like that as much in the 80's - at least with his closer relationships. * Interestingly though - he was still wanting someone to call him based on the 3 Chains O' Gold song: * If I don't think about the fact that she left me * I'm pissed that we never found out what the heck those "3 chains of gold" are to him! Per the lyrics, they were the "nucleus of his soul"....okay great, but what do they represent??!! * A fan asked him on the Love4OneAnother Q&A site: * U: What is the symbolism behind “3 Chains of Gold"?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
True. He also said before 'How Come You Don't Call Me' at the P&M show in Montreal 'What if I gave You my phone number and you never called? That would be jacked up!" He sounded kind of ticked when he said it. That's my fave part of '3 Chains' by the way. Yes,his answer to the question was a bit vague.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Vague is an understatement!! What the heck, Prince?? * I'll have to listen to that Montreal show again. In his song Tangerine he sang, "beggers can't be choosy if they don't know how to serve, you got a different phone number, and a lot of nerve...". One of my favorite songs - love his voice, the lyrics and the acoustic guitar. Just beautiful.

It was either Montreal or Toronto. His performance of TBO's that night was especially emotional. He sounded very frustrated and I had never heard him scream the way he did at the end.It was rather intense, I love 'Tangerine' as well! Simply beautiful!
