Vague is an understatement!! What the heck, Prince?? biggrin

*

I'll have to listen to that Montreal show again. In his song Tangerine he sang, "beggers can't be choosy if they don't know how to serve, you got a different phone number, and a lot of nerve...". One of my favorite songs - love his voice, the lyrics and the acoustic guitar. Just beautiful.

It was either Montreal or Toronto. His performance of TBO's that night was especially emotional. He sounded very frustrated and I had never heard him scream the way he did at the end.It was rather intense, I love 'Tangerine' as well! Simply beautiful!

I was just watching the July 2011 show in Melkweg (show 2) and when Prince sings Mutiny he says, "darling with unity no one can make us fall, baby, I think it's mutiny now, you know the number...maybe you should've called..."

*

This was around the time that he began feuding with Susannah and fDeluxe and also The Time about using the original names to perform. In 2012 Prince and fDeluxe "sparred" back and forth through recordings - first Prince sent his rehearsal of Mutiny to Dr Funkenberry and then Paul sent fDeluxe's recording of them mocking his song Hot Summer with theirs called "Hot Summer At Menards'" with Prince's song in the backround and Paul shouting out discount items for Menard's store in a cheesy voice. Hilarious!!

Hmm that's interesting. I saw clips from that show yesterday. Lol I missed the back and forth with fDeluxe. I remember Prince giving the 'Mutiny' rehearsal to Dr Funk but I didn't know that FDeluxe had recorded a song in response.

OMG, you have to listen to it!! Simply hilarious. They just made up a fake radio commercial about a sale at the Menard's store in MN using Prince's Hot Summer in the backround. Here's the link from princevault.com to get to the sound clip:

*

On 23 April 2012, a 9:54 rehearsal version of Mutiny containing an interpolation of Ice Cream Castles by Prince and the New Power Generation and likely recorded around mid-April 2012 was streamed on drfunkenberry.com to promote the forthcoming Welcome 2 Australia Tour. The track was sent to Paul Peterson prior to its online stream, and fDeluxe (as The Family became known) responded the following week by streaming Hot Summer At Menard's (a spoof commercial for Menards, a mid-west home goods store, using Prince's Hot Summer as background music) ondrfunkenberry.com.

*

If you can't get to it from the links above you can reach the old clip from the princevault page. There were threads about the "feud" on the Org too.

Thank you! lol That sounds hilarious! I remember talk about the feud but I somehow missed the clip on Dr Funk's site. I think it was probably because I had Web tv then and couldn't play audio clips. Looks like audio clips are back up on Dr Funk's site. They had been taken down last year.

Ahh, okay. Glad you could link to it! Here's an old thread which posted a great and in-depth interview with Paul Peterson right after that whole back and forth with Prince:

*

Great detail on what was happening at that time. Just a shame that several years were wasted by Prince being difficult with them. Seems he regretted it later.

I'm listening to the 'Mutiny' rehearsal now. Love that one! I'll listen to fDeluxe's next. I remember all of the posts about it back then. I was kind of irked at him over it lol. Thanks for the link! Paul's response was hilarious! Glad I got to hear the clip!

Haha! It IS interesting. Not everything has to do with Andy Allo - as many of us have been trying to tell you! Because as always, isn’t that the direction you were trying to take the thread? LOL!
Prince was a matured man with MANY relationships and interests. In fact I have been told by people who were around That he was truly about the music.

Um actually I was thinking that it might have had to do with Susannah since they were going through a rough patch. Actually I'm not sure that he ever got over her completely after learning more the past few years. Why would I have thought it had any thing to do with Andy when she was right beside him at the show ? I never thought Prince and Andy would last. They had their fun and that was it and Andy went off with Lamorne from New Girl then on to ZP. Now she seems to have found love again. She and P are kinda old news as a couple and she isn't even into men anymore from the looks of it.

Easy there TheTruth123!!! I was the one who brought up the Melkweg show in 2011 - not Pink. This all started with the discussion about girlfriends/associates not being able to call Prince after the 80's time frame. It had nothing to do with Andy Allo. No one was bringing her into the mix here. smile

Thank you. Her name wasn't even mentioned in the thread till now. Looking back through the comments again I was wrong about that. Andy was mentioned by TheTruth on the second page. They said that there was a photo of her in Prince's L.A. Memorial book. I stand corrected.

Yes,I think he did seem to regret it later on with how he was reaching out to them. I really hope Susannah shares more about the lyrics that Prince sent her too. That's great that he was reaching out to her again. Just read the interview with Paul and he must have really hated 'Hot Summer' lol Good interview though!

Yes, I agree. It's a pretty big deal if they are the last lyrics Prince wrote down before he passed. I hope she does share them, and I hope they are hand written. How amazing would that be??!!

She seemed to be on his mind during the P&M shows based on many of his song choices. Obviously, others too, but I think the fact that he wanted to send the music to her is very telling.

I wasn't going to mention her name. Why would I? Their relationship was last discussed to the ends of the earth in the thread about her letter. With the exception of a few new tid bits that were discovered thru the writer of the book about the Investigation, nothing new has been revealed. You were the first person to bring up Andy's name on the second page. I'd forgotten about that. smile

I think it was more than about "working with her". I think Susannah was very important to his life. More important than we have known. There hasn't been a lot of focus on the things violetcrush is saying.

And wouldn't it be something is Revelation was written for her? WOW.

Ex. for a long time I ws convinced ILYBIDTYA wasabout Mayte. Many insist it was about Susannah. AFter all, Prince did say, "The 80s". You just never knew what that gorgeous man was thinking.

Prince was much more complex than we know.

With the songs he was playing at the P&M shows I think it's quite possible she was on his mind. Some other songs on Rave may have been written for her as well

Agreed. I think Prince harbored a love for her all along, and I think he had a very difficult time when she got married. I could be wrong about that, but I just don't think so. I think there was just something much deeper with their connection that he never got with the other women. That being said, he also pursued and wrote songs about many other women throughout his life.

Yes, he was extremely complex, and was constantly changing his mind about everything - his music, his women, his friends, his associates, etc. No doubt though that Susannah held a special place in his heart smile

Yes, he was extremely complex, and was constantly changing his mind about everything - his music, his women, his friends, his associates, etc. No doubt though that Susannah held a special place in his heart smile

The fact that he kept bringing her name up and revealed that FIYL was written for her in that NPGMC chat too as well as mentioning her in the liners of Crystal Ball.

But you were leading up to it. lol

Might as well do it for ya! LOL

I wasn't going to mention her name. Why would I? Their relationship was last discussed to the ends of the earth in the thread about her letter. With the exception of a few new tid bits that were discovered thru the writer of the book about the Investigation, nothing new has been revealed.

You know, I have to say - I think with Andy it was wonderful that Prince reached out to mentor and help to get her name out there. Regardless of whether there was a romantic thing - and knowing Prince, there probably was for a minute or two, as he never really grew up when it came to pursuing younger women - I'm betting she looked to him as a model and a guide for her music and career, and really I'm sure it felt amazing for her to be able to perform and record with him! That's a huge deal for a girl so young. Same with Tamar, Judith Hill, Ani DiFranco (whom I so love!), Esperanza Spalding, the 3rd Eye Girls....how great for all of these young women to get a "leg up" from Prince!! I think it was awesome how he would seek out the talent and try to make something happen for them.

Alright...back to "the love of his life" - which I think most agree was actually his music. However, if we have to pick a woman as a close second my vote is Susannah....hands down biggrin

Agreed. I think Prince harbored a love for her all along, and I think he had a very difficult time when she got married. I could be wrong about that, but I just don't think so. I think there was just something much deeper with their connection that he never got with the other women. That being said, he also pursued and wrote songs about many other women throughout his life.

Oh yes, and interestingly, on the Crystal Ball CD the first song was the title track and the last song was Goodbye sad I know he mish-mashed a bunch of songs from different periods on there, but I think there was a hidden message there. He recorded Wasted Kisses during the time she got married, and he was carrying around the original "glitter" cane during that time too. Then you've got the Rave album with Strange But True and Tangerine. This could all just be coincidence, but it's all pretty interesting stuff!!

Yes,it was wonderful of him to do that and she said he taught her a world of knowledge. She did say that he had so much knowledge because he had been around so long in the business. It sounds like she was calling him old but she was right in saying that. I thought it great the way he would reach out to new and seasoned talent alike. I discovered a lot of musicians and artists I might not have known if not for him.

I had never considered that before. That is interesting. Several songs on the set were llikely inspired by her as well. Didn't know that about the glitter cane. It's interesting but sad too. I wonder what Susannah's feelings were for him. She spoke so fondly of him in her interview with Toure.

I agree! He was that “first” for a lot of people.
And the one who they still look up to today.
There’s a poster on here who said something about them never forgetting their “initiation”. Both musically and in all other ways. I think Prince was preparing them for ALL of life. The sad thing is he never found someone who was already his equal.
But his life was a beautiful journey in itself.
I think there are reasons he told Judith Hill he longed for “the good old days”.
Susannah and the bands and his friends in the biz and parties later in the 2000s...I think he missed those years. Also agree that he was obsessed with youth. Being afraid to get old is one that many people have.

Yes, I think in a part of his mind he was always that 25yr old guy - especially when it came to pursuing women. I think in songs like Reflection, and then later The Breakdown, we see him reminiscing and realizing some of the good things he had back then, and wishing for them again. Although he'd never admit to it, I'm sure he often looked back and wished for those times again. As he stated during his song ILYBIDYU "I remember meeting you here, back in the good old days..the 80's...." That was a truly special time for him.
