Oh my... the new New Power Soul?
https://blog.thecurrent.o...k-to-life/
“This all came from Marva,” Omarr explains. “She wanted to keep on performing, but to assemble the whole NPG is 23, 24 people. So we said, ‘What if we formed a new band?'”
Lead singer: "Jason Tenner, who has spent the past 20 years paying tribute to Prince with a Las Vegas-based show called Purple Reign."

I wish they were not doing covers. I was hoping for new material and he should not have brought in a impersonator. Someone like a Stokely or a Bilal would have been better or just trying to find someone new.
I think it is great the studio is being used for music but I hear theatrical performance and I think it will be scary.

This is perhaps the strongest reminder that he has passed away since 4/21/16.
Useless to complain. He lives through his music. Everything else is noise.

My main problem is the impersonator, really. Makes no sense whatsoever. It will always seem like a tribute act. Sad choice.

Which NPG band did Marva sing with?

Here is my thing. Tyka, Sharon and Omarr have all had a hand in recording at Paisley. That is what it is. I just have to wonder what would happen if the energies were focused on releasing completed items from the vault. There are songs, albums, videos, movies, concerts, etc. that are ready for upload to a site that we would gladly purchase. To each his own, but I ain't paying a dime for anyone that was a Prince impersonator. There is a difference between honoring and impersonating.

[Edited 9/21/17 8:30am] The article said they are working on new music too. Big thumbs down to the impersonator but I’d say the same thing to bringing in Stokely or Bilal. Do their own thing rather than trying to find someone who can sing like Prince (no one can). Paisley Park is in your heart

ok. Yeah she had some appearances during Emancipation . then Planet Earth-02 residency... yes I remember now, she has some photos in the 21Nights book she sang at Coachella, @ the 21Nights Book party in NYC and on Jay Leno on Rich Friends and the last night of the triple Tonight show

this is not the kind of music news we want

Maybe if this guy does not go over well they will find someone else. I was also hoping they were going to do something with BackAlley the band that won the contest.

I don’t have a problem with the musicians in the group. Adrian was one of the last musicians to work with Prince. I think their heart is in the right place but Prince covers is a mistake IMO. I agree, the covers are a mistake, Especially the 80s music. Leave that to those who are doing it from that time.
I think if they brought life to latter music from the 2000s and some New Power Soul maybe do something a little different it might spark some nterests. Do some stuff from 20Ten etc

Cafe de Paris performance, screen left (cowboy hat, burgundy/brown leather pant & halter type top, tambourine) at about 36:50. She is credited (but uncertain contribution) on PRINCEVAULT - http://www.princevault.co...le=Come_On - as background vocals on Come On (one of my faves, btw) from the Newpower Soul album. 🎵🎸I know you got a young man You don't care about me He's darker than quicksand He's taller than a tree...🎸🎵 "Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence......." ~ DESIDERATA ~ Max Ehrmann

Forget about Prince. Forget about recreating Prince, the man, the musician, the artist, the musical force. Nobody wants to see a replacement because there's no way Prince can ever be replaced. If the issue is money, put your efforts into putting his music, videos, etc out. We are all waiting for it and will gladly pay for it. If the issue is the fact that the Estate cannot put his music out until the whole mess is sorted, then this seems like a lame and disrespectful way of trying to make money off us, imo.

I thought I was disheartened by NPG and Revolution touring without Prince. this takes the cake however. Prince must have been paying for everything for his half-bro while he was alive. Becuase now that he is dead and his fortune is tied up in probate, Omar resorts to his lunacy to get money. Does anyone actually think this band will make any money for the estate, especially when Prince music is available on Spotify, Amazon etc. Its not all of his music or concerts (which is very unfortunate) but it is certainly the same music these folks are probably going to cover in their little "tribute" band. This impersonater might be really talented but I have never liked the concept of impersonaters. they are nothing but caricatures most of the time (which is okay for comedy, but not much else) and the imagery they are projecting on this poster of this Prince substitute is skeevy and creepy. For one, he is not delicate enough or young enough looking to pull off that look. And the look is a badly derivative version of Graffiti Bridge Prince. (Prince pulled it off--this dude does not.) Appearance-wise, he looks like the tommy Wiseau (god awful, tacky actor and director ofthe worst film ever made the Room) of Prince impersonators.
Also Prince is irreplacable. Period.

Lala is NOT happy
https://www.facebook.com/...0970904095 Let it be known now, for a fact, that Prince did not talk to his family nor was close with them. This has been difficult for me to watch but I am so ashamed, disgusted and angry with how his family has handled his passing and how his estate is managed.
I have no idea why the media goes to them for interviews because none of them knew him or what he desired. It's a joke.
And anyone close to him before he passed can verify what I am saying is true. I WAS close with Prince and can state for a fact that NONE of this would be acceptable with him and none of this would ever be considered. It's not okay. I ask that if you know me, please do not support this. It's despicable. And it crushes me. I purposely detach from this nonsense and don't comment because there is nothing I can do about it. 💔
I want to speak this truth because it will be lost if I don't... to those who are simply fans and really knew little of Prince. He would not want this and I am asking that you boycott things like this. Out of respect.
Prince deserves so much more than to be represented as some circus act that is so blasé and commercialized for profit. He wrote "slave" on his face for a reason. This is the perfect example. Being pimped by big top music industry giants and being forced to perform material he did not want to do, all for a buck.
He knew it was of essence to him and his artistry to maintain his integrity. To do and produce the material HE desired instead of having it chosen for him by people who only cared about money. This is not artistry, it's prostitution.
Don't devalue someone as prolific as he was by parading his name on a band that could NEVER be him.
If you are fascinated by his music, please take the time to actually learn about him. Buy all his albums. Not just the songs "When Doves Cry" or "Kiss". Really learn his story and you will understand why this is so upsetting to me and those that actually knew what he stood for. 🙏🏽💜 Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end

I like Lala and I am glad she is pissed about this monstrosity but I don't see how she can know the inner workings of his family when she obviously wasn't up in Paisley trying to get P help for his drug problem. Did she even know about it. In other words, for the time she knew P personally, he might have avoided his family but who knows other than P and his family any other times in which they associated with one another.
Artistically, the family might not have known shit about his vision, but he still had his sister working for him. I agree with her that the estate has done a lot of tacky shit, though. I love her for this line...
