Paul McCartney doesn't call himself the Beatles. If Wendy and LIsa want to play songs they worked on with Prince more power to them. That is really not what I was talking about.

I agree with Sexton. I don't see what the big deal is. There are many of us that would love to see The Revolution in concert. Yes, Prince is no longer here so the Revolution (and/or the NPG) are the closest we can get to a "Prince concert." I've seen Prince in concert several times but never with the Revolution so I would really love to finally see them. And I don't see what the big deal is... Paul McCartney still plays Beatles' songs long after John Lennon and George Harrison have passed away. Lots of bands play without some of their main members as they get older and life happens. I am personally grateful that they have reunited and are touring.

Well, i forgot about the Purple Rain reference. So i guess i Can relax about that label. If the Revolution only toured for a month, threw a bone to at least one post-Revolution PRINCE song and didn't make constant implications like "When I wrote this..." then no harm no faul in my eyes. It really depends on how they conduct themselves. I am harder on them because they seem to have a sense of self importance that other Prince associates don't have and they do imply that their relationship with him was more pure and intimate. As a result, .my thinking becomes.."THEN PROVE IT". Respect the talent and your collaboration without making it all about yourselves. Hell, I would have more respect for the concerts if they did Prince/Revolution collaborations, a few Prince songs the Revolution wasn't involved in, and then include a few of their own songs post PRince. Mix it up. BY all means show your own talents. But give the proper respect and stop perpetuating the notion that Prince was nothing without your involvement.. Doing "Mountains" over and over again so you can remind everyone that you wrote most of the song and then leaving out songs like Another HOle in the Head...UGH>>>

In my opinion, there is something crass about the Prince associations never coming up with their own names or new music; exploiting their connection to him but never admitting what he was able to do without them.

IF that group of folks renamed themselves and then released new and original music and merely stated that they were inspired by their years with Prince, I would respect the hell out of that. What Wendy and Lisa did on their own--I respect that. This reunion just kind of rubs me the wrong way.

Yes, they are performing at Paisley on the 21th. But there are dates before and after the anniversary celebration scheduled for these folks. Did they hire Bilial as well? I guess the "Stillagroup" label irks me the most. For one thing, this configuration of folks was never a group as far as I know (Andre, Dez, Lisa, Dr. Fink, Bobby Z, and Wendy all at the same time?--when did that happen other than after Prince died.) But, we get it. You are still a band without Prince. I guess the Rolling Stones would be a band without Mick Jagger and the Beatles would still be a band without John Lennon. In fact, I don't think either group of remaining members of these bands would think Lennon and Jagger were replaceable or unneeded in order to proceed..and Lennon and McCartney were nearly equal in their contributions. To me what they are doing is the equivalent of George Harrison (RIP) putting together a band with Ringo Starr and some studio musicians who had helped fill out the sounds on Sergeant Peppers and then calling themselves "StilltheBeatles". Yes, important contributors to the BEatles but missing the two most important members of the group.

I didn't think the "Still A Group" nickname that they have chosen for themselves on social media was anything deeper than a reference to Bobby Z's line in the Purple Rain movie.

Anyone here familiar with BB King's. they have VIP Reserved Side Loge Seating for $75 is this worth it or do you recommend just going with the general admission

I was there for Prince's Musicology After-Party and sat in a VIP booth where only the waiter had access to our table. I never did get up to dance but it gives you the option. GA seats are just standing room only as far as I can recall. We had a few famous people in the booth next to ours so that was pretty cool too. It looks like the Citi pre-sale has started. If you have a Citi Mastercard you are in luck.

Damn give them a moment. Maybe they will add other stuff in time. There is a whole catalogue of music from 1977-1987 in itself.

U R really going overboard with this. Doing Mountains over and over again. How many times have they done the song? Sheila E does the Glamorous Life at almost every show for the last 20yrs... so. Different audience of people...

They are not exploiting anything. Just don't go to the shows, don't check into the threads, don't view any videos/concert footages/live streams. It really is that simple

The Revolution are still alive and kicking. Being a bit too hypersensitive about a musican who died alone in an elevator being possibly exploited...it doesn't make me a bad person. I just feel bad for him.

I am just fvcking tired of seeing tributes to Prince without Prince (What I mean is that Prince's talents are secondary to other people's intrepretations of his talents..) . Everyone seems to be exploiting him. I thought the Revolution would be above all that and I am disappointed that I get a feeling that they are not above the fray either. Maybe this is his fault for being such a loner..but it sucks.

When Frank Sinatra died, the tributes/specials had clips of Frank Sinatra performing full songs. I remember because I watched them all. Prince fans get constant covers of his 80's music and a few concerts from his bands who are only playing music that they themselves worked on.

Sheila E has been criticized by a ton of people already. I never defended her and I found her making herself out to be Prince's influence/fiance self-serving and opportunistic.. But, no one has ever claimed that Sheila E made Prince great.

However, the Revolution throwing shade at people who spoke out about Prince within a couple days of his death (presumably Sheila is included in this group)....Well, somebody had to honor him before the press lost interest or before people started thinking no one gave a shit...Their asses weren't saying a thing (except to mention a reunion).. Its like a funeral in which no one wants to do the funeral arrangements because they are too much in mourning...and then the one person who takes the responsibility to get together the arrangements gets ripped into for seeming to not mourn enough..

Yes, I used hyperbole in describing Mountains. I know they wouldn't be that blunt about pointing out songs they took a big part in... At least they did the beautiful ones and When Doves Cry in the tribute..but finding essentially a Prince impersonator to sing them kind of pissed me off. There is an article right now about their upcoming reunion (Nerdist I think) that states that Prince was one of the best frontmen ever but that the Revolution was a key in his success so therefore would do a great job without him. Its fine to say they were one key to his success but to say he was a great frontman without mentioning that he was a multi-instrumentalist and the writer of most of his songs diminishes his importance...it helps perpetuate the idea that he was merely a pop star fronting a band of real musicians...We know better but some casual fans don't get it and having someone try to sound just like Prince up on the stage doesn't help with that perception. It does make him seem replaceable.

Yes, they need to expand their list if they plan on doing any other tributes to Prince (none of it extends past 1986).

Here's their set list at First Avenue...

Let’s Go Crazy
Computer Blue
America
Mountains
Do it All Night
Let’s Work
Uptown
Party Up
Little Red Corvette
1999
Sometimes it Snows in April
Raspberry Beret
The Beautiful Ones
Private Joy
When Doves Cry
Controversy
Encore:
Kiss
Baby I’m a Star
Purple Rain

a couple interesting quotes from a Current blog review..: “I’ve been waiting such a bloody long time / to get this close to you,” André sang, and the line hit me like a dart to the chest. Earlier this week, André said he stopped listening to Prince’s music after the two parted ways back in 1981. And even though they’d kept in touch and had been talking more these past couple of years, I couldn’t imagine what it must have felt like to be up there communing with his departed friend’s melodies and words." I have really mixed feelings about this comment. Kind of petty to stop listening to someone's music for 30 years...he must have gone out of his way to avoid his music. But I give him credit for remaining in touch with Prince and for recently learning songs unfamilar to him.

Dez's comment irked me more..

"“We’ve been waiting a long time for this,” Dez Dickerson said, cuing the band up for “1999.” “This is your party, and we’re just happy to be invited.” A little too celebratory in my opinion. Prince's death seemed to enable a party and an uniting of musicians he had been waiting for years to work with... .

From all accounts--Wendy and Lisa (and BrownMark) did seem pretty upset the first night so I will ease up a bit. They probably had good intentions but I wish they wouldn't bother with a reunion tour and work with others to honor his life's work. Maybe, its just a natural instinct for musicians to be at least a little self-serving even while mourning a friend.. Hell, maybe even Prince is guilty of that--when he talked about Vanity loving him for the musican he was...(during the P and M performance after she died.).

Everything else is personal feelings. We cannot judge anyones heart or intentions.

And I'd rather hear them perform Purple Rain than Fantasia

Well, we can agree about the Fantasia oversinging Purple Rain part. I still think Adele did the best tribute ever in her Minnesota concert. She put up a video of Prince singing his own song himself. That foul-mouthed cockney chick showed real class.

I am glad you enjoyed the concert with the Revolution. Did they talk about Prince or give any antecdotes. Trust me if i could get past my issues with this reunion, I would probably actually enjoy it. They are a talented group..no doubt.

Is it not all 5 original members of The Revolution who are performing (and maybe then some, if Dez is joining them)? Those Prince albums were credited to Prince & The Revolution. Prince... AND The Revolution. They were his backing band, labeled separately from Prince himself. And now they're touring on their own, billed as The Revolution.

Everybody knows Prince is gone, they aren't trying to fool anyone into thinking it's going to be 'the real deal' like it was in the 80's. It's just a bunch of musicians paying tribute to their old bandleader in the best way they know how to.

I'm in the UK, I hope they play Europe, would love to see them.

Imagine them trying to tour as the Revolution when Prince was alive, he would have had so many lawsuits on them, so it's good they can now tour this, Prince is gone, but we can still enjoy the music they made with him, so I don't see a problem.

I just wish Prince was not so stubborn when he was alive and played more gigs with them to celebrate the great music they all made together.

Also, does any know the age limit, it says its a blues club & grill, was thimking of taking my 10 year old, he's always wanted to visit NY (we're in the UK), I know US laws can be strict on bar ages, would he be allowed in with me for a gig and food if it's a grill? the website says it's open for all ages, but some shows are 21+

Tickets for the NY show go on sale Friday, February 10th at noon EST according to Ticketmaster.

There is a presale right now for people purchasing with an American Express credit card.

There is also a second presale for people with an access code which was posted above somewhere.

Thanks, trying using the code on revolution FB page but ticketmaster is saying theres a problem with map, tried in IE & Chrome

Being a general admission show, the seat map is useless. Instead select the "choose seats for me" option.

They performed together in a reunion type format in 2012 when he was alive. (he did not join them but he also did not sue them). the lawsuit claim has no proof. If my understanding is correct, the Time could perform live but they could not record and perform new material under that particular band name. (after all, Morris Day and the Time performed at Paisley in January 2016 under their original names.)

The notion that Prince would sue simply for performing under their old name would make Dez's statement that he had been waiting a long time to perform with these guys imply that Prince's death was a blessing in terms of their freedom to perform together.

Reminder,,,Price wasn't just a bandleader. He wrote most of the songs (or at the very least co-wrote) and he even performed alone on a porton of the recordings without a band...When Doves Cry, Beautiful Ones, and Darling Nikki being the most famous. He also produced much of his work. I am not trying to belittle their contributions but their contributions were not equal to his own in terms of recording and writing.. They are not replaceable necessarily in terms of their influence on him (Lisa and Wendy in particular)..But without Prince, the Revolution would not have existed.

I am not really upset about the concept of touring, reunion or tributes. BUt i question the timing and the method, and for that reason, I am very sensitive to the nuances. A reunion in which they perform new material (with an altered name like "The New Revolution"--I would respect (as long as it wasn't the month of his death) because it is obvious Prince would have been cool with it when he was. A tribute in which they cover more of his career--I would respect (no matter when they choose to do it) because it shows that they are really trying to honor the man and not just promote themselves using their connection to him. . If it is on the anniversary of his death then I would think a tribute would be much more tasteful and respectful than a reunion (especially if the reunion only consists of 80's music they were involved with.). I can't claim to know what their intentions are, but I know what i feel like it looks.
