Drop the word "hits" substitute "best of" and there you go...

Yeah, I alluded to that earlier. However, SM's list was a bit thin w/ the unreleased stuff. Even The Hits had 2 unreleased tracks per disk! For me, I don't need another version of "Nothing Compares 2 U". Let me brush up his list:

Disc 1

I Wanna Be Your Lover
I Feel Fou You
Bambi
1999
Little Red Corvette
Moonbeam Levels (Previously Unreleased)
Erotic City (Long Version)
Pop Life (Dance Mix)
Sex Shooter (Vanity 6; Previously Unreleased)
Housequake
U Got The Look
I Wish U Heaven
Batdance (Batmix Edit)
Thieves In The Temple

Disc 2

Gett Off
Cream
Love Thy Will Be Done (Previously Unreleased)
Sexy MF
The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
Lovesign
Gold
Rock and Roll Is Alive
The Return of the Bump Squad (live or rehearsal from NPGMC)
La La Means I Love U
One Of Us
Baby Knows
Call My Name
Guitar
Crimson & Clover
Last December
Baltimore
Rock n' Roll Love Affair

No. Too much hype. If a version still exists, it'll be more likely a 'is that it?' reaction from most.

Absolutely agreed. Too much hype. I'm already expecting it to be a let down at this point.

Whether people will say it or not,It's kind of like I think there's a big divide between the old and some new fans. Note I said SOME not ALL. 'Come Elecktra Tuesday' and '9 to 5 People' put a massive grin on my face. But i was 14 in 1984. I'm not sure how appealing that music would be to a new, younger fan or any people just getting in to him though. They certainly have to cover all bases with Prince's legacy.

I'll definitely be interested in, say, 10 years time how many "greatest hits" compilations will be on the market.

And I'm with Thunderfunk, this will probably garner more buys from the hardcore fanbase looking for the one or two unreleased tracks than the casuals who likely already bought their comp last April.

Susan Rogers apparantly didn't rate Adonis & Bathseba so she's not entirely the perfect person to manage his Vault IMHO!

PS. I think a move away from Pure chart hits would be better on a new 'hits' collection, more introverted songs to break your heart would be nice.

Prince: The Beautiful Ones

The Most Beautiful Girl In The World

I Wish U Heaven

Ballad of Dorthy Parker

Manic Monday

The Beautiful Ones

I Can't Love U Anymore

Love Thy Will B Done

Starfish & Coffee

Nothing Compares 2 U

Joy In Repetition

Sometimes It Snows In April

They might as well name this package...

"Thieves in the Temple - Prince's greatest hits"

Something about Susan Rogers rubs me the wrong way. Especially since she did those interviews suggesting he may not be of sound mind, capable of managing his vault. Prince made his feelings about her clear in that Esquire interview that appeared on the internet then quickly vanished.

Why? I've got my mid to late 80s head on. I think she was right. B grade at best.

I agree about Susan Rogers - but if you had to choose one person to head into the vualt and come out with some good songs who would you choose? I think Hans Martin Buff (wasn't he the guy who digitized the tapes?), Kirk Johnson, Wendy & Lisa, Sheila E. (although recent comments suggest she is against opening the Vualt), Eric Leeds should also be involved.

I agree it's an odd lyric about standing up to have sex, but I like those whimsical songs.

That interview seemed like Prince might have mistaken what was actually said.

For some reason I don't think Kirk will be coming out of hiding for a while. If anything he can be involved in unreleased music of the 90s

I posted this on another thread, but it seems more fitting here.

I don't think Prince wanted to have anything to do with Susan. This is an excerpt from the pulled Ebony interview, where he was talking about her.

Prince: There’s too much! They get down to, “See, what he was thinking at that specific time was… His mindset at the time…” They psychoanalyze you.
There was one engineer who said that their sole purpose in life was to get the stuff out of the vault, and get it copied so it wasn’t lost to the world. I’m trying to figure out if that’s illegal. Should I fear for my safety that you might need some medical attention? You want to come up in my vault and you feel like that belongs to you and that’s your purpose? You better find something to do. That’s scary.

2 discs of hits we orgers don't really need again. But a third disc of a concert or selection of live tracks to make us buy it.

But do we have one that also includes post WB stuff? Having D&P but not TMBGITW on a greatest hits album is nuts.

But do we need a greatest hits with post 1996 stuff? Do we all not make our own playlists on our devices anyway, even by simply hitting "shuffle"? Post-1996 would be 'very best', since his hits were far and few between by that point and beyond.

There were no "HITS" after 1996. His last TOP 40 hit was in 1995 EYE HATE U which charted at #12, after that he never had another single break the TOP 40.

Betca-by-Golly-Wow made the Top 20 in the UK. TGRES I believe would have made the Top 40 but was disqualified for having too many (or to long?) tracks.

Some of Prince's best songs weren't released as singles anyway, so a more general compilation would be preferable.

My thoughts also. Prince made his feelings about Susan Rogers very clear - more than once (also see the Mojo interview in I think '99). He even stated that Susan Rogers knew nothing about his music.

Clearly, Rogers wouldn't be Prince's choice. He's never been as negative about any other engineer.

I'll be very surprised if there's anything unreleased on the end of year hits package. But I'll welcome a release that includes latter period hits such as "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" (single version) and "Gold".

Trust me, considering the state that the estate is in, I think Londell's being optimistic saying that there'll be unreleased music out next year. I do hope I'm wrong though...

Clearly, Prince was wrong. He is FAR from the best judge of his own historical relevence since he didn't believe in the past, DIG? When dealing with an erratic star who woke up in a completely new world every day and changed his mind more than Donald Trump you need a sober-minded person to evaluate things as objectively. Even if Susan isn't the best choice by those standards, she's still head and shoulders above Prince in that respect. Literally, too.

Well, Susan Rogers considered 'Adonis & Bathsheba' sub-standard, so I wouldn't particularly rate her judgements either.

There is no evidence that Susan is 'objective' either. Who is?

What we can ascertain, in this respect though, is that Susan Rogers would not have been in accord with Prince's wishes about who should handle HIS music. I happen to think that's important.

Wow, so twisted. Imagine an employee telling you, they are a better authority on your life's work than YOU. Clinger and hanger on much? What value has Susan Rogers contributed to music since being fired by Prince? Give me a break.
