definitely figurative and I heard literal, I think one of them admitted it in her book. I think the video represents the sexual relationships he had amongst his various proteges at the same time. Ohhh... Maybe this is it! White Mayte is Vanity if she died from complications from the OD. It's her as an angel?? The video was shot in late 1994 and that would make sense she was probably very ill.

I think people are misunderstanding this thread greatly because we are not saying Prince was obsessed with her or anything. We just think she was the one who always had his heart. No one ever seems to attack the Mayte and Susannah threads but I do see Manuela and Sheila E. threads getting the same treatment as Vanity threads and that's not right. Everyone has an opinion about his love life but like I said before, NO ONE knew what that man felt and never will because he took his thoughts and feelings with him to the afterlife. I don't care how close his close circle was to him, I honestly don't believe they knew every one of his thoughts and feelings. As I remember, his close circie didn't even know how sick he was before he passed. He was just that private and he kept to himself.

I completely agree with you and if they listened to Prince's own words:

In an Ebony Magazine article that took place in 12/15 he stated someone speculated who "The Beautiful Ones" was about and they were completely wrong. He said if people look at it, it's very obvious. "Do you want him or do you want me?" He stated that was written specifically for the scene where Morris is sitting with Apollonia and there'd be this back and forth. And also, "The beautiful ones you always seem to lose"; Vanity had just quit the movie. He states, "To then speculate, "Well, he wrote that song about me?" Afterward you go, "Who are you? Why do you think you're part of the script that way? And why would you go around saying stuff like that?"

He stated, "Nine times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong."

Prince was so complex and us fan will never know the full truth. I don't even believe his bio would have told us anything to be honest. He would have talked in code and had us scratching our heads, lol. But you know, I wish fans of Mayte/Prince, Manuela/Prince, Sheila E./Prince, Susannah/Prince, Jill/Prince, Susan M./Prince and of course Vanity/Prince could just come together and appreciate the impact these ladies had on his life both musically and personally. There needs to be no stan wars because at the end of the day, all of these women kind of went through the same journey. I love Prince but I think these women were wronged by him at times and they all need respect and love for being able to get through Hurricane Prince!

Yes, I agree with a lot of what you've said. This thread is NOT a fan fiction thread nor is it a "Prince was obsessed with Vanity" thread either. We have been exploring the thought that Vanity's death affected him greatly because she is the woman who had his heart (that's our opinion). We've been looking at his music, videos, articles, and even things Prince said himself (at Melbourne Tribute).

It is NOT a comparison of which lady/ love interest was a better woman or anything like that. I believe he cared about his ex-wives and all the other ladies that he was with. It's just that there was something beyond that with Vanity/Denise.

You can hate on whatever opinion there is those facts are what they are and yeah 30 whatever years that have passed clearly did not change somethings. Prince cared for Denise. That is not belittling wives or ex-lovers- it is what it is

AND - Purple Rain was their story that is common knowledge so Vanity/Denise is in "the script" /movie Just take out Appolonia and place Vanity so the music for Appolonia was for Vanity

there was also that newspaper article i posted a few pages back that reported Prince and Nona Gaye looking at wedding dresses after the Versace show in Paris. That was printed in early october 1994.

My theory is that Nona or someone close to her maybe her PR person planted it to put pressure on him to get engaged for real, just like I think Susannah planted that one in Seotember 1985. When Vanity saw those reports, each time she got engaged or married. Both times Prince was reported to be furious and ditches the women involved. I think its what he meant by goldiggers in Strange but True. I'm not saying those women actually did it i'm saying he thought they did it.

However I will not bash the others because they were in his world that being said he really did reveal true feelings in Melbourne- it was raw emotion and broke my heart just others reported who were lucky enough to be in the audience. I think what some do not get is once someone touches your soul no matter how many days/decades pass they are there-buried, pushed aside but still lurking. Prince left that wonderful tribute to her at the end and for me it was fitting.

You are exactly right! That tribute was like something so rare to me. What will always stick in my mind was that they were both 57 and died within weeks of each other. Not a year but WEEKS! It was like Denise had a hold on him and brought him to her. When he was crying out for her to brought back to him in Melbourne and then he passes all of a sudden, it was like HE was brought to her. He got what he wanted and I get comfort when I look at it like that. I am so spiritual so I tend to believe in things like soulmates and twin souls so to me, they are together forever now!

Nona is really beautiful so in that way she was. And her father being musical royalty helped, plus she's talented actess. Girl is wounded, probably never recovered from her childhood and father's death. All I know is Prince was juggling her with Carmen and Mayte and others all at the same time. In Oct 1994 someone planted a news story that Nona and Prince were engaged after they had been at the fashion shows together. Then he puts Nona in the films where she plays the humiliated party to Mayte who gets the ring (this was filmed in such a sequence that she did not know the outcome). Finally he invites Nona to a concert and publicly announces his relationship with Mayte. Lots of people think Prince was being sadistic but I wonder whether he thought she was trying to trap him and that was payback. (There was also rumors of a pregnancy).

But you know, I wish fans of Mayte/Prince, Manuela/Prince, Sheila E./Prince, Susannah/Prince, Jill/Prince, Susan M./Prince and of course Vanity/Prince could just come together and appreciate the impact these ladies had on his life both musically and personally. There needs to be no stan wars because at the end of the day, all of these women kind of went through the same journey. I love Prince but I think these women were wronged by him at times and they all need respect and love for being able to get through Hurricane Prince!

OMG, I just gasped out loud!!! Nona was very beautiful and like so unique looking which I loved! Now, on to Prince..... OH, NO HE DID NOT DO THAT TO NONA AT THAT CONCERT. I saw her in that film, I forget the name but it was a cyber thing and I honestly thought Mayte was his main girl at the time but OMG once again, she might have been pregnant too? Did she possibly miscarry as well?

So just overlook what he said in 12/15?!? Just because he included her name does not mean the song was about her. Of course she knew about it. He inferred in the Ebony Magazine interview that she speculated about the song being about her, when it wasn't. He probably would have included the name of his other proteges if they had passed.

Dedications are a symbol of honor and respect. So, yes he respected her but I can't go so far as to say it was a deep romantic love in the end. To me, he gave that deeper love to God and it was because of that love (and faith) he probably was thinking of his relationship with Denise and realized it was one that had not been reconciled, not in a romantic sense but biblical, meaning to be at peace with all men.

I always thought the "7" was just about the 7 deadly sins, and it may still be referring to that, but maybe instead it's the 7 plagues of Egypt and the 7 plagues in REVELATION. Now, since I see his music differently, it rings of his newer song, Revelation. He is again talking about the obstacles in the way of love and maybe the "army of haters" who were standing in the way before (in Seven) that they were going to "smoke". Now in Revelation he doesn't care because that's not his focus. And in Seven he referring to what things will be like in the afterlife. THis is getting wierd. A glass of wine anyone?
