Toure's book signing/conference that I attended a few years ago, with La. Reid & Susannah Melvoin was a MUST SEE for any real fan of 's! It wa VERY insightful. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! I've never really heard of anything awful in his childhood. So what? His father kicked him out of his house at some point (so did mine) he didn't like his stepfather and the stepfather didn't like him- So what? I've never heard of anything so terrible- no beatings, no drug addicts in the family (except for his sister, later when she was on her own- not living with him) Yeah, he has immense talent and saved himself from a life of poverty- (well, maybe, but maybe not- his parents werent' exactly on food stamps- wasn't the mother like a superintendent of schools of schools or something?) It kills me when I hear people say he had it rough- I've never heard rough. He signed a six figure contract when he was still in his teens and the worse I've ever heard him going through (besides the death of the baby- which we all agree is awful) is him standing outside calling his dad asking if he could come home and the dad said no- at that point he went back to his friend's nice comfy home where he had his own room down in the basement. Oh the horror! Can someone please explain what trauma he endured as a child because I don't see it?

I know he once revealed during an interview that as a kid he was not very healthy and suffered from epileptic seizures. They went away when he was visited by an angel
And no, I'm not making that up. I think that was the same interview in which he talked about chemtrails.... A robin sings a masterpiece that lives and dies unheard...

I do not believe for one minute he stayed away from his parents homes for no reason,

I think just because it seems trivial and easy for you to get through hypothetically speaking doesn't mean it didn't take an emotional toll on Prince, a completely different person to you. Being rejected by his own father at an extremely young age (16 i think he was) is enough emotional trauma for one. And the fact he apparently was phsyically abuse towards Prince as a child as well as an adult. His relationship with his father appears rocky to say the least. It's especially worse when he's a boy too, because I imagine having a close bond with a father figure is important for young men.

His stepdad. left home way after his parents divorced. Then moved with his dad who later kicked him out. Which left poor homeless . He then moved in the basement with his VERY close friend Andre in his Mother Bernadette's home. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! I see that that is traumatizing and in fact, I think it's why he fell for Larry Graham and the whole JW business- I've always thought he was looking for a father figure and found that in Larry and that was why he latched on so hard. Its's just that, as far as his childhood goes, I've never heard anything concrete that was terrible. I just haven't.

[Edited 6/27/15 11:05am] WHAAATTT???? That video was taped AFTER the baby died???!!! Well damn! That's cruel. Poor Mayte. Her milk for her baby boy hadn't stopped and there she is masquerading being happily pregnant. She talked about that... How her body was going thru physical changes after the baby died. How she was going thru breast feeding issues and had no baby to feed and her body was going thru major issues and it was difficult for her. Not just emotionally but physically as well it is LUDICROUS to have her participate I that taping. She probably did it because of all the money and plans would be spoiled. And did that to help him/the band. I would not have done NONE OF IT!!! Fug that!!! And most of us wouldn't either unless... It was prince asking She did and yet she still come off as a Villian or bad person because she had emotions... She showed out when her husband cheated because he couldn't handle her being emotional or depressed after babies death. How anyone can criticize Mayte is really a mystery to me "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

i look forward to reading her book, i have always liked her. prince is not perfect as some here on this site like to think. everyone wants to attack mayte, but seems that she went through a lot with him! and i think she truly did love him. his track record with women is not good, and he comes off as a control freak in the relationships as i've read over the years in books/interviews with his former band mates and lovers. also he almost always wants to date girls way younger than him that are naive and can be manipulated. be kind, be a friend, not a bully.

laurarichardson- I didn't know his father said he didn't like him as a person. That is horrible. Would be traumatizing . I had never heard that.

On the Oprah interview, Prince said that he and his dad
were not talking. If I remember correctly, when he was on Tavis Smiley, he said that his father was critical of him. Children who grow up in broken homes become adults with emotional scars. As does the children who were abused, beaten or witnessed domestic violence. [Edited 6/29/15 18:49pm]

Ok- but still, none of this is particularly traumatizing. Yes, it would be horrible to have a parent "not like you" ---- yes, awful. but kids have so much worse! I'm sure many Orgers have had much worse! My original thought was, besides the baby, things have been pretty good for him as a whole. I think Prince would even agree. Prince has not had a "hard life." geez.

I know really! Furthermore, if a kid has to go from home to home until he finally lands at a friend's house because his parents wont take him, I'd say that's a pretty f'd up childhood. Something has gone really wrong in his immediate family. For someone to think that's a relatively easy/not a "hard life" life for a child, is beyond me. He ran away from home at one point. Things aren't all roses if a kid is running away from home. You don't have to be a social worker to see that.

I think physical abuse is terrible!!! I'm just saying, I have never heard Prince say that! Give me the interview or the quote where he says that! that's all I'm saying! I think Orgers have surmised that but I'm just saying I've never heard him say that. And as far as him going home to home, was that because he wanted to live with his friend because he didn't like his stepdad? or because he HAD to? I'm just saying, I thought it was because he CHOSE to and would have preferred to live with the dad but the dad said no.None of this good, of course, but when I think traumtazing I think beatings, child molestation, etc.

Didn't his dad kick him out for his uh...extracuricular activities? And this was when he was pretty young (like 15?). It doesn't make sense for his dad to just kick him out instead of just asking him to not do that in his house (in which case his dad did and he carried on doing it, maybe he had a point of punishing him, but kicking him out seems a bit too far). Dude came from a pretty rough home.

And there are very few kids who were raised in the 60s who weren't "abused" by today's standards. Yelling was common. Spanking was common. I have never heard Prince say it went beyond anything like that. [Edited 7/1/15 13:26pm] We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
